We spent a week at Fort Desoto Park Campgrounds. The park looked pretty good since reopening after the damage from 2024’s hurricanes. The picnic tables are all new. The shrubs are growing back. We were in the pet allowed area. There were nice walking paths by the water. The bathrooms were clean but could be remodeled. New washer and dryers. The camp hosts work hard to keep the park clean. The only con are the mosquitoes! But we’re in Florida and you can expect that. So bring bug repellent! The campgrounds are very close to the park beaches. We loved the dog beach! Fun trip!!

This place is beautiful, surrounded by nature, wildlife, and lush greenery everywhere perfect for those looking to relax and reconnect with the outdoors.Each campsite offers plenty of space between spots, giving you privacy and peace. Every site comes equipped with a barbecue grill, picnic table, water hookup, and electricity (30amp and regular 20amp outlet) everything you need for a comfortable stay!What stood out the most was how clean and well-maintained the campground is. The volunteers are super friendly, always present, and clearly dedicated to keeping the park organized and eco-friendly.There are several types of areas to choose from some with waterviews, others tucked in more forested, shaded areas, but all of them include the same great amenities.Another big plus:• Clean restrooms with showers• Laundry facilities nearby• A cozy cabin-like community room with a fireplace• Free drinkable water refill stations• Board games, books, and plenty of space to sit, relax, and share with othersIt’s a fantastic place whether you’re going solo, with a partner, family, or friends.🔔 Pro tip: Don’t forget to bring mosquito repellent there are quite a few bugs, which is natural in a place like this, but nothing too serious.

Been coming to Fort De Soto for years. The store doesn't have rental bikes or kayaks anymore. The restrooms are clean but have cracked tile, broken doors and leaking toilets at the base. After the last hurricane, you could tell this place took a hard hit. The trees have been thinned out and weeds growing in most sites. Some sites are mud/dirt instead of the shells. Besides the changes I saw on this last trip, it is still a good time with family. Pinellas County needs to invest some resources and money and bring back this place back to life.

I'm going to review the campground and park separately even though the visit was to both. As far as the campgrounds the site I had was lovely. With a gorgeous view of the water, shade, and good size. The positives about the campground are that they have water and electric hookup, bathrooms with showers, a store, and beautiful nature views and trails around all the sites for walking or biking. The negatives were that though there is electric hook up, they only had 50 and 30 which is fine for RVs but I was tent camping and just needed an outlet to charge my phone but they didn't have a 20. That was also not a big problem but since I was camping in the tent and small vehicle only section I just assumed they would have a 20. It was nice they had bathrooms and showers but maybe I've been spoiled by the cleanliness of Florida State Park bathrooms because these were not that great and I didn't even want to shower in them. But again, this is probably normal and Florida State Parks are just a lot nicer than most. This is a Pinellas County park. Another negative is that you can only have a fire pit if you rent a pit or I guess bring your own. The pits are picked up at the store on site which you have to go online to rent. Strangely enough though, even though the store is located at the campground, the website you have to rent the pits from is the park website, not the same as where you rent the campsite. It also isn't free of course so you pay for that, then you pay separately for the firewood which you also purchase there. Speaking of money, it really adds up here. The campsites themselves are more expensive than most. Just about $50 for a tent site with a water view. Then on top of that and the fire necessities, you pay, at the least, 2 tolls on your way in. And if you're like me and coming from the south or don't want to take the long way across Tampa, you also pay for the toll on the skyway. So it's a bit pricey but the water view is So nice it makes it worth it. The biggest issue I had at the campground, (because most of these are minor issues, the cost being the biggest but still worth it) was actually the camp neighbors I had and their noise levels. The people next to me has a bunch of teenagers with them who were just trying to have fun, and I get that which is why I didn't complain to a host or a ranger. But common courtesy tells you that if quiet time is 10pm and you've been at camp for hours already, you don't wait until quiet time to shine your giant spotlight for an hour and set up your tent. It also doesn't mean to run up and down the road to the bathrooms screaming back to your campsite, riding your bike and yelling back to your friends, or just plain yelling and screaming at your site until 1am. I do understand they were young and having fun but some people go camping for the experience of quiet, hence, quiet time. These people did not understand. But I'm actually more disappointed with the camp hosts and rangers who seemed to not mind. As loud and for as long as they were loud, it's hard for me to believe the 2 camp hosts did not hear them, as they were not very far away and these kids were outrageously disruptive. Even after all these issues though, I would go back if I were going to be fishing. I think it's a beautiful place to fish and even the camp could be great if it was kept a bit quieter. Oh also, I heard a lot about the number of raccoons invading campsites here, which I know they can be a nuisance, but I like them, so I was kind of looking forward to seeing the little trash bandits. I didn't even see one. So that's a positive or a negative depending on your opinion of raccoons. I spent some time at the park as well and I will review it next but just know the review for the park is not good.

We have been here 5 times the past couple years and we have loved every single moment. Check in is a breeze, site has always been clean and wonderful! Convenient store is exactly what you expect if you forget anything.... down the road is a gas station bait shop restaurant for anything you need. $6 a day for parking and if you're staying it's free!!! Dog park is wonderful although this trip we don't have Ralph but he lives it more than I do. Give it a gander you won't be disappointed!!
