Had a great time in their new tents. Finally got to see the crocodiles that live by the marina. Close to many walking trails. We took the boat tour and it was beautiful and our guides were absolutely wonderful. Amazing sunrises and sunsets. We took supplies for fires and big spray but we had an awesome time and can't wait to go back. - M and C Munoz

Flamingo Eco-Tent Campgrounds Introduce

For Florida residents looking to truly immerse themselves in the unparalleled beauty of the Everglades National Park without sacrificing comfort, Flamingo Eco-Tent Campgrounds offers a unique and unforgettable "glamping" experience. Nestled at the southernmost tip of the Florida Peninsula, this destination provides a remarkable opportunity to connect with the state's iconic subtropical wilderness. Unlike traditional camping, the eco-tents offer a blend of outdoor adventure and essential amenities, making them an appealing choice for those who desire a comfortable yet authentic encounter with nature. If you've lived in Florida your whole life and haven't truly experienced the Everglades, or if you're a seasoned adventurer seeking a new perspective on this vital ecosystem, Flamingo Eco-Tent Campgrounds is an ideal gateway to exploration and relaxation right in your home state.

Flamingo Eco-Tent Campgrounds are situated within the vast expanse of Everglades National Park, with a general address of Homestead, FL 33034, USA. More specifically, they are located at Flamingo, the remote southern outpost of the park. For Florida residents, accessing the campground typically involves a scenic drive into Everglades National Park from the Homestead entrance. This journey itself is part of the experience, offering glimpses of the unique Everglades landscape. Once inside the park, Flamingo is approximately a 45-minute drive from the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center. While remote, this location is precisely what makes the eco-tents so special, offering unparalleled access to wildlife and natural beauty. Despite the remote feel, the Flamingo area itself is equipped with a marina, a restaurant, and a store, providing essential services without requiring a long drive outside the park. The tents themselves are connected by a boardwalk, and while you might need a wagon or wheelbarrow (provided, though sometimes limited) to transport your belongings from the parking lot to your tent, the accessibility within the eco-tent area is well-managed. This unique combination of deep wilderness immersion and thoughtful logistical planning makes it an incredibly accessible adventure for Floridians.

Flamingo Eco-Tent Campgrounds provide a range of services and amenities designed to offer a comfortable glamping experience while remaining true to the natural environment. While some aspects of the shared facilities might benefit from updates, the overall offering aims to make your stay in the Everglades both enjoyable and convenient. It's important to remember that these are eco-tents within a national park, so the experience blends rustic charm with key comforts.

  • Safari-Style Eco-Tents: Guests stay in elevated, spacious canvas tents built on platforms. These tents feature screened windows that can be unzipped for a breeze or zippered for privacy and protection from insects. During the winter season (November-April), tents are furnished with comfortable beds (queen or double) with sheets, blankets, and pillows.

  • In-Tent Amenities: Each eco-tent is equipped with a fan, a lamp (often with a USB connector for charging small electronics), and at least one 110V power outlet (guests recommend bringing a power strip with an extension cord for more charging options). Shelving with baskets provides storage.

  • Dedicated Bathhouses for Eco-Tent Guests: There is a central bathhouse designated for eco-tent guests, accessible via a passcode, which helps maintain a level of privacy and security. These facilities include flush toilets and solar-heated showers. While some reviews suggest they could benefit from updating, they are generally reported as clean.

  • Communal Eating Areas: Cooking or food preparation is not permitted inside the eco-tents to prevent attracting wildlife. There are communal picnic tables and fire rings located near the parking lot and restrooms. A separate eating area for eco-tent guests is also provided near the boardwalk.

  • Wheelbarrows for Luggage: To assist with transporting belongings from the parking area to your tent, wheelbarrows are provided (though availability can vary).

  • On-site Dining: The Flamingo restaurant is available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, offering a convenient dining option with waterfront views. Reviews suggest it's "above average for the price."

  • Marina Store: A nearby Marina Store offers snacks, beverages, ice, firewood, basic supplies, and souvenirs.

  • Guided Boat Tours and Rentals: Flamingo Adventures offers various boat tours (Back Country and Florida Bay) and rentals for kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and bicycles, providing easy access to exploring the park's waterways and trails.

  • Ranger Programs: Seasonal Ranger-guided programs are often available, offering educational insights into the Everglades ecosystem.

Flamingo Eco-Tent Campgrounds offers a truly distinctive set of features and highlights that make it a compelling destination for Floridians seeking a unique outdoor adventure. These elements contribute to its recognition as a top glamping spot and provide a memorable experience.

  • Unbeatable Location within Everglades National Park: The primary highlight is its placement deep within one of Florida's most iconic national parks. This allows for unparalleled immersion in the subtropical wilderness, offering direct access to unique ecosystems and wildlife not easily found elsewhere.

  • Stunning Bay Views & Sunrises/Sunsets: Many eco-tents offer amazing views of Florida Bay. Guests consistently rave about the "amazing sunrises and sunsets" visible directly from their tent or nearby, providing breathtaking natural spectacles.

  • Close Wildlife Encounters: The opportunity to see iconic Everglades wildlife, such as crocodiles by the marina, various wading birds, and potentially manatees or dolphins in the bay, is a major draw. The entire area is a vibrant habitat.

  • Mosquito-Proof Tents (mostly): The design of the eco-tents, with their screened windows and elevated platforms, provides a significant advantage in keeping mosquitoes and other critters out, making the stay much more comfortable, especially in a region known for its insects.

  • Comfortable Beds & Furnishings (Winter Season): For those visiting during the winter season, the presence of real, comfortable beds with linens inside the tents elevates the experience significantly beyond traditional camping, offering a more luxurious "glamping" feel.

  • Access to Extensive Walking & Canoeing Trails: The campground is "close to many walking trails" and canoe trails, providing ample opportunities for exploration on foot or by water. The Guy Bradley Trail connects the campground to the marina and other facilities along Florida Bay.

  • Educational Boat Tours: Taking a boat tour with knowledgeable guides provides a fantastic way to learn about the Everglades' unique ecosystems and spot wildlife, enhancing the overall visitor experience.

  • "Camping Elevated": The elevated platforms of the tents keep campers "up and away from the worst of the critters, mud, and water," contributing to a cleaner and more secure camping environment.
