Falls Creek Campground Introduce
Welcome to the heart of Montana's rugged beauty! If you're a local looking to escape the hustle and bustle and immerse yourself in nature, Falls Creek Campground offers a quintessential Montana camping experience. Tucked away near Big Timber, this hidden gem provides a tranquil setting for those who appreciate the simpler side of outdoor life. It's a place where the sound of the creek and the rustle of leaves replace the noise of traffic, and the starry Montana sky serves as your ceiling.
Falls Creek Campground is a popular spot for those seeking a quiet, authentic camping trip. It's especially well-suited for tent campers who are ready to disconnect and enjoy the great outdoors. The campground is well-regarded for being a fun and accessible place for a weekend trip, offering a peaceful retreat without straying too far from the local area. Whether you're a seasoned camper or looking to introduce your family to the joys of sleeping under the stars, this location provides a wonderful starting point for your next adventure.
The local community knows this spot as a fantastic place to unwind. It’s the kind of campground that feels like a well-kept secret, yet is welcoming to all who respect the natural environment. The rustic charm is a big part of its appeal, reminding visitors of the authentic spirit of Montana's wilderness.
Navigating to Falls Creek Campground is part of the adventure. It is located on Main Boulder Road in Big Timber, MT. From Big Timber, the drive takes you onto gravel roads, so it's advisable to be prepared for a bumpy ride. The journey itself offers scenic views and a taste of the Montana backcountry, building anticipation for the peaceful setting that awaits you.
While it feels secluded, the campground is not completely isolated. It's off a local road, but as some visitors have noted, it can feel quite remote, especially during off-peak seasons. The exact address is Main Boulder Rd, Big Timber, MT 59011, USA. Given its location in the wilderness, it is important to plan ahead, as cell service can be non-existent. Specifically, T-Mobile users have reported no signal, which is an important consideration if you need to be in contact with the outside world. This lack of connectivity is also a major draw for those who want to truly unplug and be present in their surroundings.
For those driving, note that the road in is a bit bumpy and is primarily gravel. This is standard for many of the more rustic and secluded campgrounds in Montana, and it contributes to the feeling of being off the beaten path. Despite the rural setting, visitors have reported no animal encounters, which can provide peace of mind. However, bear boxes are available for food storage, a crucial amenity that helps ensure the safety of both campers and local wildlife.
Falls Creek Campground offers a range of services designed to provide a comfortable, yet authentic, camping experience.
Services Offered:
Public restroom facilities
Restroom
Tent sites
Bear boxes for food storage
Vault toilets
The restrooms and vault toilets are a welcome convenience, especially for a more primitive-style campground. Having these facilities allows for a more comfortable stay without sacrificing the rustic feel. The presence of bear boxes is a critical safety feature, reminding campers to secure their food and scented items to prevent unwanted animal interactions.
In addition to these services, the campground is considered "Good for kids," making it a great option for family outings. The simple, natural environment provides a perfect backdrop for children to explore, learn about nature, and enjoy classic outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, and rock skipping.
Falls Creek Campground is defined by its unique features and highlights, which set it apart from other camping spots in the region.
Features / Highlights:
Beautiful creekside tent spots
Secluded and peaceful atmosphere
Walk-in tent spots (meaning you have to walk your gear in)
Rustic and authentic camping experience
No cell phone signal, offering a true "unplugged" experience
Access to public restrooms and vault toilets
The creekside tent spots are a major draw for many visitors. The soothing sound of the creek provides a perfect natural soundtrack for your stay. However, a key aspect of these spots is that they are walk-in sites. This means you will need to carry your gear from your vehicle to your campsite. While this requires a little extra effort, it contributes to the secluded, peaceful atmosphere by keeping vehicles at a distance from the prime camping areas.
The lack of cell signal is highlighted as both a feature and a consideration. For those seeking a genuine break from digital life, it’s a huge plus. It encourages campers to engage with their surroundings and their companions without the distractions of calls, texts, and social media.

Falls Creek Campground stands out as an excellent choice for a number of reasons. Firstly, it provides a genuinely rustic and peaceful setting that is perfect for those who want to disconnect and reconnect with nature. Unlike some overly developed campgrounds, Falls Creek maintains a wilder, more authentic feel, which is a major part of its appeal. The walk-in nature of these sites, while requiring a bit of extra effort, ensures a quieter, more intimate atmosphere away from vehicle traffic.
The availability of basic amenities like public restrooms and vault toilets adds a layer of comfort to the rustic environment, making it more accessible to a wider range of campers, including families with children. The presence of bear boxes is a testament to the campground's commitment to safety and responsible outdoor practices, which is crucial for any camping in Montana. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1no cellphone signal (t-mobile), we were a little worried as we were the only ones there and it's off a busy local road. road in was quite bumpy / gravel. no animal encounters though and there are bear boxes and vault toilets hidden near the exit!! beautiful creekside tent spots but you do have to walk your gear in. also when we went mid-september there was nothing stated about a nightly fee...
October 23 · Dona TuGreat campground. Fun place to go for a weekend!
September 08 · Charlie NewsomeThis is a great camp site. The boulder river runs by each camp site providing great white noise for bed time, fresh water, and great views. The is a clean bathroom on site. Picnic tables at each site. There is also a water pump on site but the water comes out dirty. The river water was sparkling clean though.
