Choosing the Equestrian Campground is a decision that is based entirely on a specific purpose: a desire for a horseback riding camping trip. For this purpose, it is an excellent choice. The key reason it's worth choosing is its specialization. This is not a general-purpose campground; it’s a haven for equestrians. The direct access to a 12-mile trail system is a major selling point, allowing riders to enjoy a new, beautiful trail network without having to trailer their horses to a separate location. While the amenities are rustic, with no electricity and a non-potable water source, this is what gives the campground its authentic, primitive feel. It's a place for those who are prepared for a true outdoor adventure and understand the nuances of this type of camping. The serene environment and the community of fellow horse owners create a peaceful and respectful atmosphere. While some of the physical facilities, like damaged picnic tables and minor graffiti, have been noted, the core experience of riding on beautiful trails in a dedicated, horse-friendly space outweighs these small concerns for its target audience. This is a place for riders to truly connect with their hobby and with nature. It is a no-frills, no-drama place for those who know exactly what they are looking for: a beautiful trail and a quiet night under the stars, with their horse right there with them. For the equestrian community in Illinois, the Equestrian Campground is a unique and valuable resource that is well worth the visit.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1When it takes 40 pumps to start the non potable well water pump... it's a concern..Pit toilets are clean. Plenty of spaces to camp... this a horse campground... not just a campground.. don't go there without a horse.Don't upset the horse owners who go there to ride their horses. No water... no electric... I was invited as a guest and their was three horses... out of 8 spaces, only 3 has places to tie your horses. All of the picnic tables are damaged in some way... and graffiti behind the pit toilet..
