Imagine waking up to the peaceful sounds of nature, surrounded by lush coastal foliage that provides genuine privacy, and knowing you're just a quick trip away from the exhilarating Oregon Dunes. This is the experience that awaits you at Eel Creek Campground. Campers consistently praise its spacious and secluded sites, noting that it was "never too busy" during their stay. The "VERY clean" bathrooms and orderly environment maintained by the hosts contribute significantly to a comfortable and worry-free experience, even without individual site hookups.
While there's a note about potential dips and standing water on the access road during wet periods, this small consideration is easily outweighed by the campground's many benefits. Its value is particularly evident in an area where "there is little to no boondocking," making its $25 a night rate a "great" option for affordable coastal camping. If you're seeking a private access point to the dunes, a peaceful atmosphere, and a convenient location to explore the Southern Oregon Coast, Eel Creek Campground is a highly recommended choice for your next Oregon adventure.
Eel Creek Campground is strategically situated at HRR7+8C, Lakeside, OR 97449, USA. This places it directly within the captivating landscape of the Oregon Coast, specifically near the vast and iconic Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Its location near Lakeside provides a balance of natural immersion and convenient access to local amenities.
One of the most significant advantages of Eel Creek's location is its "own private access to dunes." This direct gateway to the famous Oregon Dunes is a major highlight for adventurers, off-road vehicle enthusiasts, and those who simply want to explore these unique geological formations. This private access differentiates it from many other campgrounds in the area, offering an unparalleled level of convenience for dune activities.
In terms of accessibility, the campground is praised for being a "quick drive to most conveniences" in the Lakeside area. This means that while you feel secluded and private at your campsite, essential supplies, gas stations, and other services are readily available, making your stay more comfortable and hassle-free.
However, it's important for prospective campers to note a specific detail regarding the internal road network: "The only suggestion I have for improvement would be to improve the road itself. There are many sizeable dips that flooded during our stay and left about 12" of standing water." This indicates that while the overall location is accessible, the internal roads within the campground might present challenges, especially for larger rigs or during periods of heavy rain. Campers with a "30' class A" were able to navigate it, suggesting it's generally manageable but requires careful driving. Despite this, the site itself was "plenty big enough for our vehicles to fit (although the side clearance was close with slides out)," indicating good site dimensions even for larger RVs.
The blend of being "very quiet and relaxing" with convenient access to both the dunes and nearby towns makes Eel Creek Campground an excellent base for exploring the Southern Oregon Coast. Its privacy, combined with its strategic location, ensures a memorable and highly convenient coastal camping experience for locals.

Very quiet and relaxing. Each site is private with plenty of space. There are bathrooms. No hookups at the sites. $25 a night which is great when there is little to no boondocking in this area.
Mar 02, 2025 · Laura HWe stayed for a week in our 30' class A, and it was what we expected. It was never too busy, and the site was plenty big enough for our vehicles to fit (although the side clearance was close with slides out). We really liked that every site was mostly private but several of the sites you can get through the bushes to your neighbor. The bathrooms were VERY clean, and the hosts kept everything orderly. The only suggestion I have for improvement would be to improve the road itself. There are many sizeable dips that flooded during our stay and left about 12" of standing water. If you want your own private access to dunes and a quick drive to most conevniences, this is a great campground. Highly recommend
Apr 02, 2024 · M WillOne of the nicest campgrounds I know. Not only beautiful, but each site is a little bit secluded and private, making it very special. Huge surrounding territory to explore.
Oct 11, 2023 · Sandra RuffnerFirst time camping here. Very nice little campground. The sites are very nice. Many sites have secluded firepits and tent areas. If you plan to hike over the dunes to the beach, e ready for a long hike in the sand.
Jun 11, 2024 · Greg HjGreat little campground that never seems to have anyone there. The water and bathrooms are working again but as of this review only the upper half of the campground. But since there is never a problem with finding a spot the Forest Service is probably taking there time. Easy access to the John Dellenback Dunes. Road noise from US 101 is minor, the sound of the ocean is pretty noticeable. Some of the sites are on the small size but others are much bigger. Must reserve online!!
