Eagle Creek Campground Introduce
For Montana locals, a trip to Yellowstone National Park is a time-honored tradition. If you’re looking for a peaceful and scenic place to stay that puts you close to the park’s northern entrance, Eagle Creek Campground is a solid option. Situated just a couple of miles from Gardiner, this campground offers a rustic and authentic Montana camping experience, perfect for those who want to disconnect and immerse themselves in the great outdoors. It's a place where the sounds of the creek can lull you to sleep and the sight of mountain peaks and local wildlife are part of the daily routine.
Eagle Creek Campground is a no-frills destination, which is precisely what makes it so appealing to many. It doesn’t offer modern amenities like electrical hookups or Wi-Fi, which encourages a true escape from the digital world. This is your classic, back-to-nature camping experience, where the focus is on a good campfire, a comfortable tent, and the company of friends and family. The campground's atmosphere is calm and quiet, with many sites backing directly onto the beautiful Eagle Creek, offering an ideal setting for a relaxing getaway.
One of the major highlights, as noted by many happy campers, is the incredible location of the sites right next to the creek. The soothing sound of the running water creates a tranquil environment that is perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. It's an "absolutely amazing" feature that makes you feel deeply connected to the natural world. The scenic beauty is also a strong point, with the campground overlooking majestic peaks and being nestled in a picturesque area of the Custer Gallatin National Forest. For anyone who appreciates stunning views and a serene setting, Eagle Creek Campground is an excellent choice.
It is important for prospective campers to be aware of the road conditions leading to the campground. The two-mile road from Gardiner to the campground is unpaved, with reports of "washboard garbage" and potholes. While this might be a challenge for some vehicles, especially those with heavy loads like a truck bed camper, it's manageable if you take it slow and steady. This rugged road is part of the journey and is a small price to pay for the beautiful, secluded destination that awaits at the end. The tranquility of the campground itself is well worth the bumpy ride.
The campground provides essential services that make your stay comfortable without detracting from the rustic charm. Each tent site is equipped with a picnic table, and public restrooms with running water are available for all guests. The accessibility features, including a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, are a thoughtful addition that makes the campground welcoming to a broader range of visitors. The fact that dogs are allowed is another big plus, as it means you can bring your furry companions along for the adventure, making it a true family trip.
For those who love hiking, the campground is a fantastic base camp. The Yellowstone River Trailhead is located within the campground itself, providing immediate access to a beautiful trail. This is a great opportunity to explore the local landscape and spot some wildlife. This campground is not just a place to sleep, but a starting point for daily outdoor excursions, whether it’s hiking, wildlife watching, or simply enjoying a quiet picnic by the creek.
In conclusion, Eagle Creek Campground is a quintessential Montana camping destination. It offers a peaceful and natural environment with essential amenities, all within a short distance of the North Entrance to Yellowstone National Park. While the road leading to the site may be a bit of a bumpy ride, the beautiful and tranquil destination makes it all worthwhile.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Nice campground close to the North Entrance. No hook ups but some nice sites. The only drawback is the 2 mile road from Gardiner. All wash boards and pot holes. Whoever maintains that road can do better.
July 08 · Tyler TrippThe campground is absolutely beautiful, the spot we had backed up to the creek and was absolutely amazing.Beware however, the road up there is absolute washboard garbage. I have a 2001 3/4 ton ram with a truck bed camper and had to do 5 mph the whole way up the hill. Would be really nice if someone graded this at some point.
June 15 · Matt's Mobile RepairWe were fortunate enough that someone canceled and a site opened up so we reserved it right away (2 months out). I have camped at a lot of locations before this has been the most beautiful place so far.Besides just being minutes up from the Yellowstone north entrance, it's got an amazing view if you get the right site ( which we did), fresh air, wildlife (elk) and well maintained facilities. The only downfall is that it gets pretty windy sometimes, but dies down fairly quickly. Unfortunately for us, for some odd reason. The two coldest nights of the month happen to be both our nights (33° and 31°) then back to the 40s when we left. The drive up and down is an adventure in itself, but the view from the route is just amazing. You can see the town, the Yellowstone entrance and the detour route that you probably came down from
August 10 · Kao MouaWe absolutely love this campground! It is quite and convenient to the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park. The views of the Absaroka Mountains and Mammoth Hot Springs at the higher sights. The stargazing at this park is incredible with little to no light pollution. The sights were nice, but not all that private. Highly recommend this for cheap camping just outside Yellowstone.
July 25 · Jacation AdventureCampsites are perfect for small camper, RV, van or tent. Anything under 20' basically. Lots of trees for shade. Asphalt road & campsite parking. Pit toilets, trash receptacle & fresh water onsite. Sites are well spaced & limited. Super low NFS pricing. The only negative is the proximity to I-84 & major railroad system. Bring ear plugs untill you get used to the sound. It becomes white noise after a couple of days. Great central location to the Columbia River Gorge & 30 minutes from Portland.
