Divide Lake Campground & Backcountry Sites

Forest Rte 172, Isabella, MN 55607, USA

4.0
The campsites are beautiful. Site 1 is the best, if you can get it. We were there in July and the mosquitos are unbearable at night and in the morning. On or near the water they are better. The trail was very overgrown and a mosquito mosh pit due to it being summer. The water was clean clear and cold, just how we love it. Fall, I'm sure would be better but it was already chilly at night in July so pack warm:) Dumbbell lake is where the fishing pier was and of you don't mind another 12 miles down the road is hogback lake which is also great for fishing/trout/camping if divide lake is full. - Mckenzie Tollefson

Introduction / Overview

Divide Lake Campground & Backcountry Sites offers a rustic and genuine camping experience in the heart of the Superior National Forest. It's not a resort with endless amenities, but rather a place where the main attractions are the natural beauty, the clear waters, and the tranquility of the wilderness. This campground is particularly renowned among those who appreciate trout fishing and desire a true "base camp" from which to explore the surrounding vast natural areas. It’s a testament to Minnesota’s commitment to preserving its wild spaces, providing a sanctuary for wildlife and a playground for humans.

The appeal of Divide Lake lies in its simplicity and its profound connection to nature. Here, the soundtrack is the rustling of leaves and the calls of loons, and the views are dominated by towering pines and the sparkling lake. It’s a place where you can disconnect from digital distractions and reconnect with yourself, your loved ones, and the natural world. While the experience is undeniably rugged, it’s precisely this rawness that draws many Minnesotans seeking an authentic outdoor adventure. This location places it firmly within the expansive Superior National Forest, an area celebrated for its vast unspoiled wilderness. For Minnesotans, reaching Divide Lake typically involves a scenic drive through the state's picturesque northern landscapes. While it feels remote, which is part of its charm, it's accessible enough for a weekend trip or a longer vacation for those coming from various parts of the state.

The drive itself is part of the adventure, often winding through dense forests and past smaller lakes. It's advisable to plan your route in advance, especially if you're relying on GPS, as cell service can be spotty in some remote areas of the national forest. The journey to Divide Lake sets the tone for the wilderness experience that awaits, gradually transitioning from paved roads to more rustic forest routes, preparing you for the serene isolation.

It is important to note that due to its location within a national forest, accessibility can be influenced by seasonal conditions.
