Day Marker 23, N5 Campsite is located in International Falls, MN 56649, USA, specifically within the pristine and unique Voyageurs National Park. This park is distinct in that it is primarily a water-based park, meaning all its campsites, including N5, are accessible only by boat. The campsite is situated on Rainy Lake, one of the interconnected major lakes that form the heart of Voyageurs National Park, bordering Canada.
To reach Day Marker 23, N5, visitors must travel by private watercraft or arrange for a water taxi service from one of the park's visitor centers or local marinas. The most common access point for Rainy Lake is the Rainy Lake Visitor Center in International Falls. Its position "right on the main channel" of Rainy Lake makes it easy to find by boat, though this also means exposure to "boat noise/traffic/waves all day every day." This dynamic location offers excellent accessibility by water, ensuring a memorable approach to your island retreat while maintaining the wilderness feel of a national park campsite. The boat-in nature ensures a unique and immersive experience, free from vehicle noise and focused on the stunning aquatic environment.
Day Marker 23, N5 Campsite, as a frontcountry group campsite within Voyageurs National Park, provides essential amenities designed to facilitate a comfortable and safe wilderness camping experience for larger parties. While offering more basic facilities compared to a commercial campground, these services are tailored for a true national park adventure.

Group Capacity: N5 is an "Awesome group site," specifically designed to accommodate up to 18 people, making it ideal for large families, friends, or organized groups.

Picnic Table: Multiple picnic tables are typically provided at group sites like N5, offering ample space for meal preparation and dining for a large group.
Fire Ring: A designated metal fire ring is available for campfires. Campfires are permitted within these rings, but campers must always check for current fire restrictions or burn bans before lighting a fire.
Bear-Proof Food Lockers: Crucial for safety in a wilderness environment, the site includes bear-proof food lockers for secure storage of food and scented items. This helps protect both campers' supplies and local wildlife.
No Potable Water On-Site: Potable water is generally not available directly at individual campsites. Campers are advised to bring their own drinking water or be prepared to filter/treat lake water before consumption.

It adds a unique dimension to the camping experience, far beyond a typical flat campsite.
Excellent Water Access for Recreation: Situated directly on Rainy Lake, the campsite boasts "great swimming spots" and "some really tall jumping rocks!" This direct access to clear lake waters makes it perfect for swimming, cliff jumping (with caution), and enjoying various water activities right from your camp. The dock provides convenient mooring for your boats, enhancing your aquatic adventures.
Strategic Main Channel Location: While being "right on the main channel" means some "boat noise/traffic/waves all day every day," this location also offers benefits. Great campsite in Voyageurs National Park! It’s a really big island with a huge hill that you have to rock climb up in the middle! There are great swimming spots and some really tall jumping rocks! I definitely recommend camping here!
Feb 02, 2024 · Andre McMahonAwesome group site, up to 18 people, 4 tent pads, dock, bear lockers. Really nice site for a big group with a good location. The only big negative to this site is it is right on the main channel and you will get boat noise/traffic/waves all day every day. I think if you have a large group though the nice site balances that one negative.
