It’s a place where the gentle Gulf breezes and the rhythmic sounds of the ocean create a perfect backdrop for relaxation and adventure, making it a beloved spot for locals looking to escape the everyday hustle.
Dauphin Island Campground is renowned for its direct access to the stunning sugar-white sand beaches that characterize Alabama's Gulf Coast. Imagine waking up, stepping out of your RV or tent, and being just a minute's walk from the pristine shoreline. This immediate connection to the beach is a significant draw, allowing visitors to easily enjoy swimming, sunbathing, shelling, and peaceful strolls along the water's edge. Beyond the beach, the campground itself fosters a welcoming environment, with clean bathhouses and laundry facilities, and a staff that many visitors describe as exceptionally friendly and helpful.
What truly sets Dauphin Island Campground apart for locals is its ability to combine a laid-back, natural setting with a surprising array of nearby attractions and activities. Whether you're interested in history, nature, or simply soaking up the island's unique charm, everything is within easy reach. Dauphin Island Campground is strategically located at 109 Bienville Blvd, Dauphin Island, AL 36528, USA. This address places it directly on Dauphin Island, a 14-mile-long barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico, just south of Mobile. Its position on Bienville Boulevard, the main thoroughfare, ensures easy navigation and excellent access to the island's many attractions.
For Alabamians, reaching Dauphin Island is a relatively straightforward drive. From Mobile, the most common route involves taking I-10 East to Exit 27 (Dauphin Island Pkwy/AL-193 South). You will then follow AL-193 South directly onto Dauphin Island via the scenic Dauphin Island Bridge. The drive from downtown Mobile typically takes around 45 minutes to an hour, offering picturesque views as you approach the island.
For those traveling from other parts of Alabama, such as Baldwin County (e.g., Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Fairhope), the route would involve connecting to I-10 West and then taking the AL-193 South exit to the island. Alternatively, visitors can take the Mobile Bay Ferry from Fort Morgan (east of Gulf Shores) directly to Dauphin Island, which offers a unique and enjoyable way to arrive, especially for those with RVs. This ferry landing is conveniently located on the eastern side of the island, often within walking distance or a short drive from the campground.
The campground's location on Bienville Boulevard makes it highly accessible for all types of vehicles, including large RVs and trailers. Its central island location also means that many key attractions are within walking, biking, or a short driving distance, making it incredibly convenient for campers to explore without extensive travel. This ease of access from various parts of Alabama makes Dauphin Island Campground a highly desirable and practical choice for a coastal getaway.

Jul 05, 2025 · Christy RossonRather crowded small campsites but it’s real close to the beach and all the other cool places on the island
Jun 27, 2025 · Bob MayfieldThis was a very wonderful experience. The entire island was wonderful! Food, stores, trails, beaches, bike path, and art. We found an purchased unique pieces of art. So lovely. The aquarium all of it! Our family enjoyed it very much. Couldn't have been any friendlier either very nice folks here. Good campground, good people, and good memories to hold. Only problem we have....is... We have to leave boo...nay ..nag. lol. Can't wait to come back.
Jun 27, 2024 · J. FNice, clean, air conditioned bathhouse. Beach access. Primitive sites were cheap and quiet. RV dwellers let their dogs crap in the primitive sites, but that's not the campground's fault. Didn't like that I had to pay a $20 cash deposit to get a badge to get in after 6 then didn't even need it.
