As a state-operated campground under the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), DAR Campgrounds primarily offers standardized pricing rather than frequent promotional deals in the way a private business might. However, for Massachusetts residents, there are inherent cost benefits and booking strategies that serve as continuous "special offers" and make it a highly attractive option:
Massachusetts Resident Rates: A significant advantage for locals is the discounted camping rates offered to Massachusetts residents. Compared to out-of-state visitors, residents enjoy substantially lower nightly fees for campsites. This ongoing resident discount is a major incentive, making a quality camping experience at a beautiful state forest highly affordable for families and individuals within the Commonwealth.
Advance Booking Advantage: While not a promotion, the DCR's online reservation system (often accessed via ReserveAmerica) allows campers to book sites up to several months in advance. For a popular spot like DAR Campgrounds, securing your preferred site, especially during peak season (typically Memorial Day to Labor Day), by booking early is crucial. This proactive approach ensures you get the best spots and avoids the disappointment of last-minute unavailability, effectively securing your desired "offer" of a prime location.
Seasonal Passes/Day-Use Benefits: While camping fees are separate, purchasing a Massachusetts State Parks Pass can provide free parking at DCR day-use areas. If you plan to visit DAR State Forest or other state parks frequently for day trips in addition to camping, this pass offers significant value over time.
Affordable Group Options: For larger gatherings, DCR parks may offer specific group campsites or picnic areas that can be reserved. While these have their own fee structure, they can be a cost-effective way for multiple families or a large group to enjoy the park together.
Value of Amenities Included: The "offer" at DAR Campgrounds also comes in the form of its inclusive amenities, such as clean bathrooms, water access, and the nature center. These facilities are part of the standard camping fee, providing excellent value for money without hidden costs for basic necessities.
To confirm the most current resident rates, check availability, and make reservations, Massachusetts residents should visit the official Massachusetts DCR website for park reservations or contact the DAR Campgrounds directly using the provided phone numbers. This ensures you receive the most accurate information for planning your enjoyable and affordable camping trip.

DAR Campgrounds Reviews
We camp a lot. Much nicer, cleaner bathrooms. Really nice nature center for the kids and the field and picnic table pavilion are a nice bonus. Patrolled frequently so very safe and also in general it was really quiet and the other campers were nice. A lot of tents. Highly recommend.
May 27, 2025 · Jonathan LevineThis is a lovely, wooded campground with the sites a good distance apart. Friendly staff at the gate, and well maintained. Bathrooms are clean and well ventilated with ceiling fans. Water is available in various locations and a convenient dishwashing sink as well. We brought our two little dogs, and they enjoyed a mile long hike that looped down by the lake. We will be back!
Aug 16, 2024 · John KunhardtGreat camping ground. Beautiful forest. Grounds have bathrooms and showers and dumpster. Each camp site has a food storage bin, grill, picnic table and fire pit. Camp sites are usually big enough for 2 vehicles and 2-3 tents. Trails for hiking, beach for swimming, and open field to play. Nice place to get away and enjoy the outdoors
Sep 02, 2021 · William BakerWould like to give more stars bc the place is clean and well-run, but the markup for out- of-state guests is criminal. $17 for MA residents and $54 for out- of- state. Great way to discourage tourists from coming here and spending $ in your local surrounding areas. Shame on you.
Jul 18, 2024 · evee kayReally nice campground. Very well taken care of. Nice clean lake with little beech. Plenty of water fountains, clean bathrooms, dumpster in campground now. Most sites looked really good, clean and pretty flat.
