Here are some pictures of the campsite. It is right at the entrance across from theVisitors center (which is open). We did not stay here but here is some current info and pictures. There is currently no water at the campgrounds. It is fascinating landscape and geology but I can’t imagine that tents would be very comfortable. It is $8 to rent a campsite or $4 for seniors so it’s a good price. - Terri Griffin

Craters of the Moon Group Campground Introduce

For those who live in or are exploring Idaho, Craters of the Moon National Monument & Preserve offers a truly out-of-this-world experience. The campground, located right at the entrance of this national treasure, is more than just a place to stay—it's an opportunity to sleep in the midst of a "weird and scenic landscape" of ancient lava flows and cinder cones. It's a must-visit destination for anyone who wants to camp in a place unlike anywhere else on Earth. The unique geology of the area provides an incredible backdrop for a camping trip, with the rugged, dark terrain contrasting beautifully with the Idaho sky. It's a place that appeals to adventurers, geologists, and families alike, all of whom are drawn by the raw, untamed beauty of the volcanic formations.

The Craters of the Moon campground is managed by the National Park Service and provides a straightforward, back-to-basics camping experience. While it doesn't offer the frills of a private RV park, it delivers an authentic and memorable encounter with one of Idaho's most significant natural landmarks. The proximity to the Visitor Center and the scenic Loop Drive makes it an ideal basecamp for exploring the monument's many trails and attractions. Whether you're a tent camper looking to feel truly immersed in the landscape or an RVer seeking a place with essential amenities, this campground is a convenient and fascinating choice. It offers a chance to camp among the earthen eruptions, providing a sense of awe and connection to the powerful geological forces that shaped this region.

Craters of the Moon Group Campground is situated at 1266 Craters Loop Road, Arco, ID 83213, USA. It is located at the entrance to the Craters of the Moon National Monument & Preserve, directly across from the Visitor Center. This location offers easy access to the park's main features, including the scenic 7-mile Loop Drive and a number of trailheads. The park's accessibility is a notable feature, with a wheelchair-accessible parking lot at the campground. The main Loop Road and trails are well-maintained, but visitors should be aware that the volcanic terrain of the campsites themselves may be uneven. The Group Campground is a secluded area perfect for organized groups and requires a reservation. However, the Lava Flow Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so it's best to arrive early, especially during peak season.
