Crater Lake Campground Introduce
For California locals yearning for a tranquil escape into the heart of a truly unique geological wonderland, Crater Lake Campground in Lassen Volcanic National Park offers an exceptional opportunity. While its name might initially bring to mind its more famous Oregon counterpart, this Crater Lake Campground is a distinct and equally captivating destination nestled within California's own Lassen Volcanic National Park. It provides a peaceful, secluded haven for campers, blending the serenity of nature with convenient access to the park's mesmerizing hydrothermal features, volcanic peaks, and pristine forests. If you're seeking a quiet retreat where you can truly disconnect, enjoy stellar hiking, and experience the raw power of nature, this charming campground is an ideal choice for your next California adventure.
Crater Lake Campground is nestled within the beautiful and geologically active Lassen Volcanic National Park in California. While the provided address is simply "California, USA," it's understood to be located specifically within this national park, which is situated in northeastern California. Accessing the campground involves navigating within the park, and as noted by a past visitor, getting there includes a "6 miles uphill dirt road." This road is described as "corrugated/wash board road, not too rough but bumpy," indicating that while it's traversable, a truck or a smaller RV (like a "20 ft camper" successfully navigated it, but a "30 ft" might be challenging) would be more suitable than a larger rig. This uphill dirt road contributes to the campground's "quiet little spot" and "secluded" feel, keeping some of the crowds away. Despite this somewhat rugged access, the location is a significant highlight due to its proximity to the park's natural wonders. Furthermore, a major convenience noted by a reviewer is the availability of a "free trolley which gave us access to park itself and more trails," meaning that once you're set up at the campground, you have easy transportation to explore the broader park without needing to move your vehicle. This combination of seclusion and park accessibility makes Crater Lake Campground a uniquely desirable destination for Californians.

Sep 01, 2023 · Bruce KockaNice campground but one heck of a washboard road to get there.
Aug 17, 2022 · AnnaClean place to camp, they have a couple bathrooms throughout the loop. There's a day parking area as well, but you can walk from literally anywhere. Definitely busier in the summer but you just can't beat the clear water similar to Lake Tahoe! There's also fishing and blue crawdads, as well as a trail that you can hike around the whole lake! Also, yes there's bugs. It's a lake and summer. Not sure what other commenters expected lol
May 25, 2023 · LouiseBathrooms were disgusting and it only takes a few families to feel crowded already, but otherwise a nice little place to visit.
