With only five campsites, it guarantees a less-trafficked environment, allowing for a truly immersive experience. Accessing the campground requires a bit of local knowledge, as GPS systems like Google Maps can sometimes lead you astray. It’s crucial to note that while Google Maps might direct you up Acms Road, this is incorrect. The proper route to the campground is via Thompson River Road. From the town of Thompson Falls, you should travel east on Highway 200, then turn left (north) onto the paved Thompson River Road. Make sure you avoid any graveled roads that might seem like shortcuts. The campground road itself is generally not suitable for long vehicles or trailers exceeding 20 feet, so leave the large RVs at home for this trip. However, for tents, smaller campers, and vans, it's typically accessible.
The elevation of the campground is approximately 2,700 feet, providing a pleasant climate during the warmer months. Its proximity to the Thompson River, a mere stone's throw from some campsites, offers easy access for fishing and enjoying the waterfront. This strategic location, combined with the clear directions to use Thompson River Road, makes Copper King Campground a straightforward destination for those seeking a peaceful, forested retreat in Northwestern Montana. Always remember to check with the Lolo National Forest for current conditions, especially regarding road status and any seasonal alerts.

Copper King Campground Reviews
It’s a decent campground! The best site- and the one I got- is easily the last one: site 5. There’s a pit vault toilet and a lovely river right by it. Be aware: Google maps takes you up Acms road which is incorrect- you need to be on Thompson river road.
Jul 05, 2021 · SHVery clean and peaceful. Very enjoyable.
Jun 03, 2022 · Karla CaseThe road further up was closed so I was forced to camp here and fortunately I was able to get my 16' cargo trailer in here. Anything longer would be difficult because of a hairpin turn as you go around the loop. There are 5 sites, but 3 of those are small and barely off the road. It's a nice campground but you'll want the large river site at the end if it's available. No charge to stay here.
