Clint Converse State Forest Campground Introduce
For Minnesotans yearning for a genuine escape into the wild, where the towering red and white pines reach for the sky and the sounds of nature prevail, Clint Converse State Forest Campground offers an ideal retreat. Located within the expansive Land O'Lakes State Forest, this rustic campground provides a back-to-basics camping experience that truly connects you with the serene beauty of Northern Minnesota. It's a place where simplicity is the key, allowing you to unplug and immerse yourself in the great outdoors.
While Clint Converse is known for its primitive amenities, it's precisely this rustic charm that draws many local campers. Here, you'll find flat, spacious spots nestled among impressive trees, providing a quiet haven often frequented by those seeking solitude during the week. Whether you're a seasoned angler, an avid ATV rider, a dedicated hiker, or simply someone looking to unwind by a campfire under a starlit sky, this campground serves as a perfect basecamp for your Northern Minnesota adventures.
Clint Converse State Forest Campground is situated at 5861 Lake Washburn Rd NE, Outing, MN 56662, USA. Its location in the Land O'Lakes State Forest near Lake Washburn makes it an attractive destination for water-based activities and forest exploration.
Accessing the campground is straightforward, typically involving a short drive off of State Highway 6. From the town of Outing, you can take State Highway 6 North for about two miles, then turn left (west) onto County Road 48 (Lake Washburn Road) for approximately two miles until you reach the campground. While it's located in a more natural, wooded area, the roads leading to it are generally well-maintained, accommodating various types of vehicles, including RVs and trailers.
While the campground is set within a state forest, offering a sense of seclusion, it's important to note that a county road or highway nearby does experience a decent amount of traffic during the day. However, many campers find that the traffic significantly lessens at night, especially during the week, preserving the peaceful evening atmosphere. This balance allows for convenient access while still providing a sense of being "away from it all."

Clint Converse State Forest Campground Reviews
No dumpster, so bags of trash can be found in pit toilets and woods behind campsites. Very disappointing. Otherwise, it is quiet during the week with nice flat spots and massive red and white pines. Caught pike, bluegill and largemouth bass from the bank despite being shallow. Can hear cars on the road but hardly any traffic at night during the week. Fire rings have high walls so hard to see the fire unless you're above it
Jun 02, 2025 · Devin SavageRustic campground with only satellite toilets and a hand pump for water, no electric hook ups. There is a dock on the lower part of the park for fishing and a boat launch. The upper part of the park has some great level campsites. It's close to a county road or highway that gets a decent amount of traffic so you will hear cars going by a lot but we love it here.
Jul 15, 2023 · Angie SimmondsQuiet. Swimming area is great. One can wade out 25 yards while casting. Lots of clean restrooms. Close to Remer and Outing. Trails.
Sep 14, 2019 · PJ LarsonIt's very rustic, but this is a nice peaceful campground with a boat launch on Lake Washburn. It has picnic areas and vault toilets. Camping area is quite roomy and has unique upper and lower camping areas. There's a self-service payment drop box. Hiking/skiing trails are nearby.
Jul 25, 2023 · Jessica BuchiteThis place was ok. Not too isolated from others since other campers are maybe 200-400 feet away. The lake is shallow unless you go to certain places, and boat launch isnt that great either. But an ok place if you want to get out somewhere with your family or yourself and connect with nature.
