Clear Creek Campground, located right here in Mississippi and managed by RecGovNPSData, presents a unique opportunity to experience the serene landscapes surrounding Sardis Lake. While this campground boasts a truly beautiful setting with stunning views and ample opportunities for water activities, recent visitor feedback suggests a need for careful preparation and an understanding of its current condition. If you're someone who appreciates natural beauty and is prepared for a more rustic, self-sufficient camping experience, Clear Creek Campground might still hold appeal as a picturesque spot for enjoying Sardis Lake.
Clear Creek Campground (MS) is conveniently located at 2400 Hwy 315 Scenic Route, Oxford, MS 38655, USA. For those of us living in Mississippi, its position near Oxford makes it a relatively accessible destination for a weekend getaway or a longer outdoor adventure. The address indicates it's situated along a scenic route, which suggests a pleasant drive through our beautiful Mississippi landscapes to reach the site. While the setting promises natural beauty and proximity to Sardis Lake, some visitors have noted that the various parts of the park are not always well-labeled or sign-posted. This means it can be beneficial for local users to do a bit of pre-trip research, perhaps by checking maps or satellite views of the area, to familiarize themselves with the layout before arriving. Despite potential challenges with on-site navigation, the journey to Clear Creek offers a true escape into the tranquility that defines much of our state's outdoor appeal, placing you right at the doorstep of one of Mississippi's significant recreational lakes.
Based on available information and recent visitor feedback, Clear Creek Campground (MS) offers a selection of basic services geared towards a rustic camping experience. It's important for potential visitors to manage expectations regarding the current state of maintenance for some of these services.
Campsites with Space: The campground offers individual camp lots that are generally well-spaced apart, providing a sense of privacy for campers.
Power Boxes (Condition Varies): Some campsites are equipped with power boxes. However, recent reviews indicate that these may have issues, such as loose wires, suggesting that their functionality and safety might be compromised. Campers should be prepared for potential electrical issues.
Restroom Facilities (Maintenance Concerns): Bathrooms are present at the campground. However, recent visitor accounts describe them as having significant cleanliness and maintenance issues, including bugs, unpleasant odors, years of cobwebs, rotten wood, missing lights, and boarded-up windows leading to high temperatures and moisture inside. There were also reports of rusty pipes and unsanitary conditions. These conditions strongly suggest a lack of regular sanitation and upkeep.
Water Activities Access: The campground’s location offers excellent opportunities for various water activities on Sardis Lake, such as boating, fishing, and possibly swimming, given its stunning lake views.
Lake Access for Recreation: The primary service is the direct access to Sardis Lake itself, allowing campers to engage in fishing, boating, or simply enjoying the lakeside environment.
Visitor Information (Limited): One reviewer mentioned an individual at the front entrance who stated their role was to clean bathrooms, though this claim was contradicted by the state of the facilities. This suggests there might be some on-site presence, but direct check-in procedures or detailed visitor information may be minimal or informal.
Overnight Parking/Basic Shelter: For those solely needing a place to park an RV or vehicle overnight and who are self-sufficient (e.g., have their own bathroom facilities), the campground might serve this very basic purpose.
Clear Creek Campground (MS) offers several key features and highlights, though it's crucial to consider these alongside recent feedback regarding the campground's current maintenance status. The natural attributes of the location remain undeniable.
Stunning Views of Sardis Lake: This is consistently highlighted as a major positive. The campground offers picturesque vistas of Sardis Lake, making it an ideal spot for enjoying sunrises, sunsets, and the overall tranquility of the water.
Excellent for Water Activities: The primary draw of Clear Creek is its location on Sardis Lake, which is well-suited for a variety of water-based recreation. This includes fishing, boating, and potentially swimming (though no designated swimming area or beach is mentioned, and water access from campsites might vary).
Well-Spaced Campsites: Camp lots are noted to be well-spaced apart, providing a sense of privacy and less crowded conditions compared to some other campgrounds. This can be a significant highlight for those seeking a quieter camping experience.
Potential for Peaceful Natural Setting: Despite maintenance issues, the underlying natural environment and the large, open spaces offer a peaceful setting for those who prioritize immersion in nature over amenities.
Potential for Wildlife Observation: As a natural area, there's always potential for observing local wildlife, contributing to the outdoor experience.
Rustic Camping Experience: For campers who truly prefer a rugged, back-to-basics experience and are self-sufficient, the current state of the campground might align with a desire for minimal interference and a strong connection to nature.
Secluded Feel: Given that a portion of the campground has been roped off and appears abandoned, and with only a few campers reportedly present, the overall feel can be quite secluded, appealing to those who wish to avoid crowds.

For us Mississippians, Clear Creek Campground (MS) offers a unique and, at present, very rustic opportunity to connect with the stunning natural beauty of Sardis Lake. While recent reviews clearly indicate significant concerns regarding maintenance, particularly with facilities like bathrooms and electrical hookups, the core appeal of this location remains its breathtaking views and direct access to one of our state's premier lakes for water activities. If you are a local who values a truly secluded and unvarnished outdoor experience, and you are fully prepared to be self-sufficient with your own water, sanitation, and power, then Clear Creek might still hold a certain charm. It's a place for those who prioritize the raw beauty of our Mississippi wilderness over polished amenities.
This campground is particularly suitable for experienced campers with self-contained RVs or those comfortable with primitive tent camping, where the focus is on the natural surroundings and activities like fishing, boating, or simply enjoying the peaceful lakeside environment. It's a reminder of what some of our more untouched natural areas can offer, providing a stark contrast to more developed recreational sites. For locals, it could serve as a convenient spot for an overnight stop if fully prepared, or a base for enjoying Sardis Lake if the lack of maintained facilities is not a deterrent. Ultimately, Clear Creek Campground presents a beautiful natural canvas with significant potential, currently best suited for Mississippians who embrace a "back-to-basics" approach to camping and are willing to adapt to its current conditions for the sake of its stunning natural setting.

A beautiful setting that offers stunning views of Sardis Lake. Awesome for water activities. The various parts of the park are not well labeled or sigh posted, so checking the area before visiting was aiding. My camping experience was mixed however, although the camp lots were well spaced apart, the general site was far from well maintained. The power box at the camp site had several lose wires as pictured and the bathrooms were shocking, heaps of bugs all over the floor and a smell that could only be due to a lack of sanitation.
Jul 13, 2020 · Adam SchmittNo one is keeping this campground up, trash and debris left behind, mattresses, tires, broken coolers laying around…half the campground is closed down and roped off. Bathrooms have years of cobwebs and neglect. Rotten wood, missing lights, Windows of bath house have been boarded up causing it to be sauna temps and moisture inside. Floors stay wet, rusty pipes, dead gnats embedded on wet toilet paper rolls. Think “ Walking Dead” set. This is what it reminded me of. This place had a good rating, but after reading all the good reviews, they were from 3-4 years ago. We ended up sleeping in our car. Heard trees falling in the woods. If you need a place to park your car over night to sleep in it and can pee in the woods then I guess this will do. Super sad, cause this place had so much potential. Its like it was abandoned by the owners. Guy at front entrance said no need to check in he just cleans bathrooms, but no way does he do that!! Wish i had taken a picture. One camper came out in towel and said she was dressing at her camp site. .. it was so bad. There probably was 3 campers total in the rest of the place.. overgrown abandoned campground!
Sep 23, 2024 · Mellisa WellsGreat quiet park. There's lots of picnic areas and a decent mountain bike trail. The park has a boat launch for entry into Lake Sardis.
Sep 05, 2016 · Chau LeThe campground is absolutely awful and needs a lot of work. The bathrooms were missing doors to the stalls, toilet was leaking and water was all over the floor, no soap, tp was soaking wet, bugs everywhere, and horrible smell. Most of the area is closed. Leaves were super deep and having to walk through it from the car to the tent was not fun, especially with all the ticks.
Apr 15, 2024 · Jennifer WeaverThe electrical was dangerous and shocked my husband with enough volts to kill him when he tried to plug in a lamp. Thankfully he just got minor nuerological issues from the shock.
