The accessibility of the area is a major benefit. While some parts of the campground and surrounding area may have limited space for larger vehicles, it is generally considered an easy drive from major population centers. Visitors should be aware that camping spots may be spread out along the road, and specific designated sites might have certain restrictions. This is a testament to the area's natural, less-developed feel, which many campers prefer.
Public Restrooms: The campground provides access to public restrooms, a key amenity for a comfortable camping trip. While not all areas may have this convenience, the main campgrounds, such as the nearby Powell Springs, are known to have well-maintained public restrooms.
Running Water: Some parts of the campground offer running water, which is a significant convenience for campers. However, based on some reviews, it's prudent to confirm availability at specific sites or be prepared with your own water supply for a rustic experience.
On-site Parking: On-site parking is available. However, based on some customer feedback, visitors should be prepared for potentially limited spots, especially for trailers, and some areas may require tent campers to park in designated lots.
Hiking Opportunities: The Cherry Area is a fantastic destination for hikers. The surrounding Prescott National Forest offers a wealth of trails, from easy, kid-friendly hikes to more challenging routes. Exploring the scenic trails is a popular activity for visitors, providing a great way to experience the area’s natural beauty up close.

Dogs Allowed: A significant highlight for many campers is the dog-friendly policy. You can bring your canine companions along for the adventure, making it a true family affair. It's important to keep dogs on a leash and clean up after them to ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors.
Peaceful and Natural Setting: The general atmosphere of the Cherry Area Campground is described as cool and peaceful. It's an ideal choice for those who value freedom and are eager to explore the expansive wilderness of the Prescott National Forest. The availability of hiking trails, specifically those designated as "kid-friendly," makes it a top pick for families who want to be active together in a beautiful outdoor setting. The fact that it is a dog-friendly location is also a huge plus, allowing pet owners to bring their beloved companions along for the fun.
While some reviews mention limitations on camping spots and parking, this is often the nature of a less-developed, more wild camping area. This very characteristic contributes to its peaceful and natural charm. The cooler climate and pine-filled scenery provide a much-needed break from the heat, making it a popular choice during the warmer months. The option to camp in cleared-out spots alongside the road or in more structured sites at places like Powell Springs provides flexibility for different types of campers.
In essence, the Cherry Area Campground is worth choosing for its authentic, back-to-nature feel. It's a place for adventurers who are prepared to handle a rustic environment in exchange for incredible scenery, solitude, and endless opportunities for hiking and exploration. Cherry Area Reviews
Cool place to camp. Lots of cleared out camping spots alongside the road. Also the Prescott National Forest camp ground at Powell Springs is also right there with nice camp sites with grills, tables, fire pits and a public restroom that is pretty clean. No running water.
April 16 · Patrick CurleyBeautiful scenery but the camping has been extremely limited by restrictions on where you can camp. Very few campsites for trailers and tent campers have to park in a designated parking lot surrounded by boulders.
March 15 · JD RedstoneVery quiet and relaxing place. There is some good backpack camping out there. Some great places for photos as well.
August 03 · Brien HawkesCute little campground
