Whether you're passing through or planning an extended stay, this campground provides the perfect blend of outdoor charm and convenient comforts.
The Checotah / Lake Eufaula West KOA Holiday is strategically located at 409329 E 1078 Rd, just off I-40 and Pierce Rd at Exit 255, in Checotah, OK 74426, USA. This prime location makes it incredibly accessible for travelers from across Oklahoma and beyond, positioned conveniently between Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and the beautiful Ozark and Ouachita national forests. The ease of access from a major interstate means less time driving and more time enjoying your vacation.
While the campground is close to I-40, offering convenient entry and exit, it's worth noting for tent campers that some areas might experience "loud noise from the interstate traffic throughout the night." However, as one reviewer pointed out, for many, this "ended up being like a white noise effect," not hindering sleep. The campground is nestled in a "beautiful setting with lovely trees," and nature trails lead directly to the shoreline of Lake Eufaula, Oklahoma's largest reservoir. This proximity to the lake, along with the convenience of being able to rent kayaks and canoes on-site, makes it an excellent base for water sports, fishing, and exploring the vast shoreline. The nearby town of Checotah offers a few local attractions, but for more extensive dining or shopping, Muskogee is the closest larger city, about a 20-minute drive away. This balance of convenience and natural immersion makes it an ideal spot for Oklahoma locals seeking both relaxation and adventure.

Checotah / Lake Eufaula West KOA Holiday Reviews
So Nice, We Stayed Twice! We stayed here twice since it was a halfway point for our trip, and we will likely stay again the next time we're passing through the area. The staff were very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The bathroom/shower facilities are kept very clean and well-stocked with toilet paper, hand soap, and paper towels. We stayed in the tent area, which has lots of shade. The electric and water tent sites have a wooded area right behind them. Be aware the tent sites are in the section closest to I-40 and there is loud noise from the interstate traffic throughout the night. We did not have trouble sleeping (it ended up being like a white noise effect), but we wanted to mention it since some people might have trouble. The simple cabins are in the same area. The RV sites are a little farther back. The luxury cabins are the farthest away from the interstate and closest to the wooded area and trails leading to the lake shore.Food options are limited in the Checotah area. It's at least 20 minutes one way to drive to a restaurant. There is a Hunt Brothers Pizza location in the camp store, and they make the pizzas fresh to order that taste great. The staff will even deliver it to your site. It's about $13 for a 14-inch pizza. This is a good option if you didn't bring in your own food and don't want to drive far to pick up something. They also offer a breakfast pizza, which we tried and can recommend. The store closes at 6pm, so if you aren't arriving before then, you'll need to make other plans for dinner. The store (open 8am - 6pm) has pretty much anything you might need in a pinch - which is good because, like I mentioned, it's in the middle of nowhere. There is an entertainment center with a large TV, DVD selection, indoor and outdoor games, and a small give/take a book library. There is a small petting zoo, which is worth visiting. They have a cute goat, donkey, and some geese.
Jun 18, 2025 · Jennifer McKeithenWe have so greatly enjoyed our stay at this KOA each time we’ve been there. It is located in a beautiful setting with lovely trees and it is always super clean and tidy. We always stay in one of their very comfortable and clean pet friendly cabins and our dog loves enjoying walks around the beautiful camp and down to the nearby lake. The staff there is super friendly and accommodating and one of them even offered to help my husband when he saw the hood of our car up thinking we may need car repair help (my husband was just checking the oil). That was very kind of him and showed how their customer service goes above and beyond. We appreciated it very much! We will always recommend this KOA and we will definitely be back! Excellent campground!
Apr 05, 2025 · Jenna MillerI started staying here several times a year since 2021 and I am trying to be objective, this will be my last visit. I won't comment on the road conditions since they have had a bunch of rain (first two days there it was almost non-stop) and the tractor is down but they are dangerously rutted for an RV. Manager greeted me and was very friendly, pizza was good and enjoyed that. Sites are not maintained, not mowed and no gravel on them so they are very ruted from the wheels. Branches are not picked up, trees need trimming and electrical hookup was sketchy. Staff would do better if they got off the golf carts and got onto a mower. I am used to staff checking in if they pass by if I was outside but not here. Lucky if you get a wave. Tried to talk to one young man and he simply smiled and kept walking. No WiFi, so either you bring movies or use your cellphone. Needs more help than time allows. I even offered to help mow because this was a favorite getaway spot for me. New owners and managers have a long way to go. Don't get fooled by the KOA sign because it does not hold up to KOA standards.
May 07, 2025 · Robert HunsakerGreat friendly place. All the staff were so helpful. Wooded area right off the interstate highway. Pool was wonderful, several walking trails. Geese, goats and a donkey on the premises were pleasant and fun to watch. Pizza made on site was the best!
Jun 11, 2025 · Laura HiderThis KOA should not be a KOA Holiday. It is very run down, sites are grass and not kept mowed. Bathrooms and showers are acceptable. Convenient off of Rt. 40. A playground but not kept up. Staff at the desk was friendly and informed me that previous owners let the place go. It is now under new management and they are trying to make improvements. I would say keeping the grass mowed would be a good start to make it more inviting. The staff on duty did make an effort to make the family bathroom available for me to assist a special needs adult. I wish the new management success. This place could be a diamond in the rough for now. Don't give up on it.
