Chatter Creek Campground is located approximately 16 miles up Icicle Creek Road/Forest Road 7600, near its confluence with Chatter Creek, with its address generally listed as Co Hwy 76, Leavenworth, WA 98826, USA. This places it deep within the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, a vast and scenic area of central Washington, known for its high, glaciated alpine peaks, dense old-growth forests, and rugged landscapes.
Accessing Chatter Creek Campground involves a scenic drive that gradually transitions from paved roads to gravel forest service roads. From Leavenworth, Washington, locals will head southwest on US-2 West, then turn left onto Icicle Road. This road, which eventually becomes Forest Road 7600 (or Icicle Creek Road), is followed for approximately 16 miles. While generally traversable, visitors should be aware that the road becomes gravel and may have occasional potholes, particularly after prolonged weather events. This journey contributes to the feeling of escaping into the wilderness, as the immediate surroundings become more remote and natural.
The campground's location at the confluence of Icicle Creek and Chatter Creek provides a picturesque setting, with the sounds of babbling water and the backdrop of interesting "rock formations" along the cascading path of the water. The surrounding "stunning" views and "lush foliage" contribute to a truly immersive natural experience. While a nearby historic ranger station complex may hint at a more developed past, the current accessibility leans towards a more rugged and self-reliant journey, ensuring that those who reach Chatter Creek Campground are genuinely seeking a quieter and more wild outdoor adventure in Washington.

Chatter Creek Campground Reviews
I haven't been there since 1973 but what fond memories. I was in Jr high and high school then. Bears were at our campsite every night. A momma and 3 cubs came into our campsite early afternoon. Very cool.
Jun 05, 2025 · Kim StichlerWish I could've seen this in it's "heyday". The ranger station complex really looks like it would've been a great place to stop, hang out nearby . . . but the days appear long gone. Some, if not most of the views afforded along the Icicle River/Creek here are stunning and there is interesting rock formations waiting to be discovered a long (and within) the path of the water as it Cascades down the valley towards town.
Sep 26, 2022 · James NackeVery nice campsite! It was our very first time camping and it was a good place for it!
Jul 20, 2021 · Alina RodriguezGreat campingground, if the sky is clear at night you can see allot of stars! Campinggrounds inc. Table, place for a fire and spacious spots to put down a tent. There is a restroom and water fountain
Oct 17, 2023 · Naomi DWow. What a hidden gem of an experience. If you stop by and visit Dennis...he will show you why. He roasted marshmallows for me and my family. He gave us a wonderful history lesson on the Ranger station. He also gave my two boys slingshots! I'm sure he doesn't do that for everyone but, my boys were ecstatic. If you're a hiker and looking for some wisdom on the Alpine Lakes area, he's your guy. Just awesome.
