4.0
Loved it, great trail and hang out/camp areas. Road is tough getting in, and can be real muddy and hard to leave if it has rained. Take it slow and you should be fine with most vehicles if it’s not raining. They previously did road work on the main path leading over to the gorge that looks down to the Rio Grande/Red River! Known for its spectacular views overlooking the Rio Grande Gorge and the confluence of the Rio Grande and Red River, Cebolla Mesa Campground is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. It caters to those who are prepared for a more self-reliant camping experience, emphasizing the "pack it in, pack it out" philosophy that helps preserve its pristine condition. Location and Accessibility

Cebolla Mesa Campground is strategically located within the Carson National Forest, near Questa, NM 87556, USA. This placement makes it a prime spot for exploring the diverse natural wonders of Northern New Mexico. Situated approximately 8.3 miles southwest of Questa, the campground is accessible via State Highway 522 (4.9 miles south from Questa) and then a 3.4-mile stretch on Forest Road #9.

It's important for New Mexico locals to be aware that while the main path leading to the gorge area has seen road work and improvements, the road directly to the campground itself (Forest Road #9) is a dirt/gravel road. As noted by visitors, this road can be "tough getting in," especially if it has rained, potentially becoming "real muddy and hard to leave." Therefore, taking it slow is advised, and most vehicles should be fine in dry conditions. For those with low-clearance vehicles or in wet weather, caution is paramount. This adventurous access, however, is part of the appeal for many, leading to a truly rewarding experience once you arrive at the breathtaking overlooks and tranquil campsites.
