Cattail Creek Campground

Campground ★4.0

3901 Moore's Ferry Rd, Skippers, VA 23879, USA

4.0
This is a campground as the name implies, not a resort. We camped in our 35' motorhome towing a car. Our site, C2 was level and long enough so didn't have to disconnect the car, big plus. We were staying one night so it was fine for us.The sites are hard packed with some grass. Most sites are wooded, ours was in the open, fine with me I don't like being in the trees.Water pressure was a little low but sufficient.Traveling I95 N, google GPS took exit 180 to avoid back tracking. This route leads to a very narrow road for about a mile. Next exit and backing maybe better. The manager was friendly and helpful. Stop back to make sure we were all set.I would stop here again while traveling. - francis fontaine

Cattail Creek Campground Introduce

For RV travelers and camping enthusiasts navigating the East Coast, finding a welcoming, clean, and conveniently located spot is a top priority. In the southern corner of Virginia, right on the doorstep of the North Carolina border, you’ll find a true hidden gem: Cattail Creek Campground in Skippers, VA. This family-owned campground has been serving travelers and long-term guests for nearly 40 years, cultivating a reputation for tranquility, cleanliness, and, most importantly, genuine Southern hospitality.

Cattail Creek Campground positions itself not as a bustling resort, but as a dependable, well-maintained campground—a perfect description for those seeking a peaceful overnight stop or a comfortable base for an extended stay. Whether you are traveling through on Interstate 95 or looking for a quiet place to settle for a while, this Virginia establishment is designed to make your stay as smooth and relaxing as possible. The focus here is on providing essential, high-quality services with a friendly, personal touch, making it a favorite for many seasoned RVers.

The experience is often highlighted by the exceptional management. Current manager Frank, for example, is repeatedly praised by guests for his helpfulness and friendliness, exemplifying the true spirit of hospitality that makes this location stand out from more impersonal chain parks. It’s this personal commitment to guest satisfaction that transforms a simple stopover into a genuinely pleasant part of your journey, ensuring you feel completely "all set" before you move on.

The campground’s commitment to simplicity and quality ensures that the necessary facilities are always in good working order. Travelers consistently report that the sites are well-kept, which significantly contributes to a stress-free camping experience. For those with larger rigs, this campground is a particularly strong choice, as many sites are explicitly noted as being long and level—a significant convenience that often means not having to disconnect your towed vehicle for a quick overnight stay, saving valuable time and effort.

In addition to catering to transient travelers, Cattail Creek Campground also offers flexible options for those requiring longer stays, providing a valuable resource for individuals working in the area or needing a temporary home base. This dual focus allows the campground to maintain a quiet, community-oriented feel while still accommodating the steady flow of I-95 traffic.

The atmosphere at Cattail Creek is described as both nice and quiet. This makes it an ideal retreat after a long day of driving. The blend of open and wooded sites allows guests to choose their preference—some enjoy the shade of trees, while others prefer the clear light of an open site. This flexibility in site type, combined with the hard-packed ground base that often includes some grass, makes for a solid and reliable parking area for all sizes of RVs and campers.

Location and Accessibility

One of the most appealing aspects of Cattail Creek Campground is its strategic location in the Virginia countryside, mere minutes from the busy Interstate 95 corridor. This prime positioning makes it an incredibly convenient stop for anyone driving along the I-95, serving as a perfect rest point approximately halfway between major Northeast and Southeast destinations.

The campground’s physical address is: 3901 Moore's Ferry Rd, Skippers, VA 23879, USA. Skippers, VA, is situated very close to the Virginia/North Carolina border, which means you are also minutes from major rest areas, large truck stops, and various dining options found near the interstate exits.

Accessibility from I-95 is a key feature, as the property is located about five minutes off the exit. However, local travelers should take note of specific GPS guidance when approaching, especially when driving a large RV or towing a vehicle. While the proximity to the interstate is excellent, some GPS routes (such as one mentioned off I-95 N at exit 180) may lead to a very narrow, mile-long road. For easier navigation and less stress on back roads, travelers might find it beneficial to choose an alternative, wider exit and loop back, or simply call ahead for the manager’s recommended route for large vehicles.

The benefit of this proximity is the quick on-and-off access, minimizing the detour time needed to settle down for the night, while still being far enough away from the highway noise to ensure a tranquil night's sleep. The on-site parking is readily available and helps ensure a smooth check-in process.

What is Worth Choosing: Southern Hospitality and Convenience

When considering a campground in the South Virginia area, especially along the I-95 corridor, Cattail Creek Campground presents a compelling case. What truly sets this location apart and makes it worth choosing is the unparalleled combination of high convenience and warm, genuine Southern hospitality. This isn’t merely a business transaction; it’s an invitation to a family-owned and managed haven where guests are treated with personal care.

For the traveler, the practical benefits are clear: you get a full-service, big-rig-friendly site with all the necessary hookups (water, electric, sewer), available at both 30-amp and 50-amp. This meets the needs of almost every modern RV. The sites are long and level, which is a blessing for anyone pulling a trailer or driving a large motorhome, saving the hassle of extensive leveling or unhooking for a single night’s stay.

For those considering a longer-term stay in the region, the campground offers very competitive nightly, weekly, and monthly rates. The fact that they cater to long-term full camper hookups with transparent pricing and online rent systems shows a structure designed for residents as well as tourists. This extended-stay option is a major benefit for workers or people transitioning in the area, offering a clean, quiet, and established home base.

However, the recurring highlight in almost every positive review is the staff. The experience of receiving true southern hospitality, as exemplified by the on-site manager, Frank, ensures that visitors feel welcome and cared for. When people say they would 100% come back based on the manager alone, rating the experience as "more like 10/10" rather than 5/5, it speaks volumes about the quality of the interpersonal service. The friendliness, helpfulness, and willingness to stop back and check that you are "all set" is a level of customer service often lost in larger operations.

In summary, if you are a Virginian or a traveler passing through Virginia looking for a stress-free overnight stop, a tranquil short vacation with your family and dogs, or a comfortable long-term site with essential amenities, Cattail Creek Campground should be at the top of your list. You get the easy access of I-95 travel with the peace, cleanliness, and kind management of a traditional, family-run business. It is a genuine, reliable, and exceptionally welcoming place to pitch your RV or camper.

It’s important to remember the nature of the property—it is a campground, not a luxury resort. This focus allows them to excel at the fundamentals: clean sites, working hookups, and excellent service, making it a highly reliable choice for the core camping experience. If you value a quiet night, an easy pull-thru, and a friendly face greeting you upon arrival, Cattail Creek Campground provides a standout experience in Southern Virginia.

We invite you to experience the highly-rated, quiet, and clean camping environment that has made Cattail Creek a favored stop for travelers for decades. Secure your spot today and enjoy the tranquil side of your Virginia journey.
