Cascade Peaks

11519 US-12, Randle, WA 98377, USA

4.0
The full hookup area was extremely noisy being on highway 12. You have to pay extra for the fire ring where the partial hookup and tent camping don't have to. The pool was closed which was one of the main reasons for staying there. They charge the same amount even though you cant use all the facilities. It was hot this weekend as well so the pool would have been really nice. The store person was very nice but the front office person was irratated.with me for not knowing the space numbers. The facilities are pretty outdated. There are also some trailers that look pretty sketchy. You arent allowed to ride quads in the park but gas powered golf carts are fine which isnt fair. It wasn't worth the money spent and we won't be back. - Corinne Dutton

Cascade Peaks aims to be a family-friendly destination, boasting numerous sites spread across 80 to 90 acres of wooded splendor. While some areas offer the convenience of full hookups, others provide a more secluded, natural setting, allowing campers to choose the experience that best suits their style. It's a place where you can immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, with opportunities for various outdoor activities right from your campsite.

Cascade Peaks Family Campground is located at 11519 US-12, Randle, WA 98377, USA. Its direct frontage on US-12 provides excellent accessibility, making it easy for campers to reach the park from various parts of Washington. Randle is a small town positioned in the heart of Washington's scenic recreational areas, acting as a gateway to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

The campground's location right on a major highway means convenience for travel, but as some visitors note, the full hookup area, particularly, can be "extremely noisy being on highway 12." However, the sheer size of the park (80-90 acres) and its diverse site offerings suggest that more secluded spots away from the highway noise are available, especially in the partial hookup or tent camping sections. The park is bordered by a mile of the Cowlitz River, offering direct river access, which is a significant highlight. Internal roads within the campground are reported to have potholes in some areas, but are generally navigable for RVs. The park generally operates on a first-come, first-served basis for site selection upon arrival, although specific site requests can sometimes be made.

Cascade Peaks Family Campground offers a wide range of services designed to accommodate various camping preferences:

  • Diverse Campsite Types: The campground features over 400 sites, including 120 full hookup (water, sewer, electric) sites, 200 sites with water and electricity only (partial hookups), and many dry tent sites. There are also specific group tent camp sites and RV group sites available.
  • Restrooms and Showers: Public restrooms and showers are available on-site for camper use. While some reviews note facilities can be outdated or in need of attention, they are generally provided.
  • Dump Station: A dump station is easily accessible for campers, particularly for those in partial hookup or dry sites, and it is reported to be clean.
  • Country Store: A convenience store is located on-site, offering essentials, snacks, and potentially espresso. This is a great amenity for last-minute needs.
  • Laundry Facilities: A laundromat is available on-site, providing a convenient option for longer stays.
  • Recreational Amenities: The campground boasts two outdoor swimming pools (though subject to seasonal closures, which can be disappointing if not communicated), volleyball and basketball courts, horseshoes, a children's zip-line, and a playground.
  • Family Recreation Room/Clubhouse: A designated recreation room provides an indoor space for activities, particularly useful during inclement weather.
  • Fire Rings: Fire rings are available at many sites, particularly partial hookup and tent sites, for traditional campfires. It's important to note that full hookup sites may require bringing your own elevated firepit due to a lack of provided ones, and extra charges might apply for their use in some areas. Always check for current burn bans.
  • Pet-Friendly: Cascade Peaks is a pet-friendly campground, allowing dogs on a leash. There is a two-pet maximum per campsite.
  • Water Access: With one mile of frontage on the Cowlitz River, campers have direct access for fishing, boating, and enjoying the riverside.

  • Expansive Size and Site Diversity: Spanning 80 to 90 acres with over 400 sites, the campground offers a wide variety of camping experiences, from convenient full hookups to more secluded, natural tent sites. This makes it suitable for different preferences and equipment.
  • Secluded Tent and Partial Hookup Areas: While the full hookup section can be noisy, other areas, particularly those for tents or partial hookups, are described as "lovely secluded spot," offering a quieter and more natural environment.
  • Direct Cowlitz River Access: Being bordered by the scenic Cowlitz River for a mile provides excellent opportunities for fishing, river access, and enjoying the water.
  • Family-Friendly Amenities: The presence of two swimming pools (when open), a children's zip-line, playground, volleyball, and basketball courts makes it an appealing destination for families with children.
  • Proximity to Major Attractions: Its location between Mount Rainier National Park and Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, as well as being adjacent to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, makes it an ideal base camp for exploring some of Washington's most iconic natural landmarks.
  • Wildlife Viewing: Elk and deer are frequent visitors to the campground, adding to the natural ambiance and providing opportunities for wildlife observation.
  • On-Site Convenience: The country store and laundromat provide essential services, reducing the need to leave the campground for basic necessities.
  • Flexible ORV/Golf Cart Policy: The park allows ORVs (with valid WATV registration) and golf carts within the campground, which can be a significant draw for some campers, although the distinction between allowed and disallowed vehicles (e.g., quads) can be a point of contention for some.
