Camperville

4.0
Camperville was a 5 star place when owner Dick ran the campground we had some of the best years at Camperville but then the kids started to run it and they let it go down hill they are only concerned about making more moneyThey have raised the lot rent every year giving us a BS reason to why they raised the rentThey told us one year that they were going to fis the pool and years later not done yetThey do no upkeep on the place anymore they say they want it to be rustic in reality they don’t want to do anything but sit and collect lot rent.Yes the lots are bigger but for what they charge now I would look elsewhereThe pool is never open on time and I am not even sure anyone that takes care if it even is certified to do so. The lake is small the beach is full of weeds the only time things get done now is because the campers do the work.Again it use to be a great place but now when the kids are running ( Chris and Cathy)it I don’t think it will last very long on a positive note you do have a wide selection of spots to choose from as a lot of people have either left or are leavingSave yourself the time and money and look elsewhere at much nicer places - Steve

Camperville has a long history, cherished by many for its past under previous ownership, creating fond memories for families and individuals alike. It offers a rustic setting on 80 acres with 150 extra-large, wooded sites, providing a significant amount of privacy and a natural ambiance. The campground features a private spring-fed lake, "Lake Full of Fish," offering opportunities for fishing, swimming, and quiet water activities. While recent reviews indicate some areas of concern regarding maintenance and management changes, the fundamental offerings of large, private sites and lake access remain.

This article aims to provide a balanced overview of Camperville, acknowledging its potential for a relaxing, nature-focused experience, especially for those seeking a seasonal home for their RV or camper. We'll explore its unique aspects, services, and what current information suggests about what you can expect as a local looking to enjoy the Minnesota outdoors here.

Location and Accessibility

Camperville is strategically located at 2351 310th Ave, Mora, MN 55051, USA. This places it in a rural, wooded setting north of Mora, a charming city in Kanabec County, Minnesota. The location offers a peaceful escape from urban noise, allowing campers to truly immerse themselves in nature.

For Minnesotans, accessibility to Camperville is generally straightforward. Mora is served by several state highways, including MN-65 and MN-23, which connect it to larger population centers like the Twin Cities metro area (about an hour's drive south) and St. Cloud. This means that while Camperville provides a serene, "up north" type of atmosphere, it remains within a reasonable driving distance for weekend visits or seasonal commutes from various parts of the state. The rural roads leading to the campground contribute to the feeling of a genuine getaway.

The surrounding Mora area and Kanabec County are rich in outdoor recreational opportunities. Camperville's proximity to "Lake Full of Fish" provides on-site water access. Beyond the campground, campers can explore other local lakes for fishing and boating, such as Knife, Ann, or Fish Lake. The Snake River also flows nearby, offering paddling opportunities. For those interested in more extensive excursions, the vast Mille Lacs Lake, known for its fishing and resorts, is a short drive north. The area also boasts state forests, wildlife management areas, and various parks for hiking, birdwatching, and enjoying Minnesota's natural beauty. Mora itself provides essential services like grocery stores, gas stations, and local eateries, ensuring that campers have access to necessary supplies and a taste of local charm.

Services Offered

Camperville, as a seasonal membership campground, traditionally offers a range of services aimed at providing a comfortable and engaging experience for its long-term residents. Based on available information, these services are designed to support a prolonged stay in a natural setting.

  • Seasonal Memberships: The primary service model is based on seasonal memberships, meaning campers typically rent a site for the entire camping season (or longer). This provides a stable base and fosters a strong sense of community among residents.
  • Extra-Large, Wooded Sites with Electricity: Camperville features 150 generous, wooded sites that are significantly larger than typical transient campground spots. Each site is equipped with electricity (30/50 amp service is common for RVs), ensuring essential power for campers.
  • Private Lake Access: The campground provides exclusive access to its spring-fed "Lake Full of Fish." This includes a sandy beach for swimming and a boat dock/ramp for launching small boats, offering private recreational opportunities on the water.
  • Onsite Caretaker and 365-Day Security: For seasonal residents, the presence of an onsite caretaker and 365-day security provides peace of mind regarding the safety and upkeep of the campground throughout the year.
  • Recreation Building and Game Room: A recreation building serves as a central hub, and a game room offers entertainment options for all ages, promoting social interaction and indoor activities, especially on inclement weather days.
  • Laundry Facilities: The availability of laundry facilities is a crucial amenity for seasonal campers, allowing them to conveniently handle their washing needs on-site.
  • Camp Store: A well-stocked camp store provides essential supplies, snacks, and perhaps even some camping gear, saving campers trips to town for minor necessities.
  • Heated Pool: Camperville advertises a heated pool for guests to enjoy. (Note: Recent reviews indicate potential issues with pool opening times or maintenance, so confirming operational status directly with the campground is advised).
  • Playground: A dedicated playground area ensures that children have a safe and fun space to play, making the campground family-friendly.

It's important to note that while these services are listed, some recent customer feedback suggests that the consistency of their operation or upkeep under current management may vary, particularly concerning the pool and general maintenance.

Features / Highlights

Camperville offers several distinct features and highlights that, for many campers, create a desirable and unique experience, particularly for those seeking a long-term seasonal spot in Minnesota.

  • Extra-Large, Wooded Campsites: A significant highlight is the size and natural setting of the campsites. With 150 "extra-large, wooded sites" nestled across 80 acres, campers enjoy unmatched privacy and a genuine feeling of being immersed in the woods, a clear differentiator from many more densely packed campgrounds.
  • Private "Lake Full of Fish" Access: The exclusive access to a private, spring-fed lake is a major draw. This offers serene swimming at the sandy beach and excellent fishing opportunities for walleye, crappies, bass, and northern pike, all without public boat traffic. The boat dock/ramp enhances accessibility for personal watercraft.
  • Seasonal Membership Focus: By operating as a 100% seasonal membership campground, Camperville fosters a strong sense of community among its residents. This allows for lasting friendships and a stable, familiar environment season after season, which many long-term campers highly value.
  • Past Reputation for Excellence and Welcoming Atmosphere: While recent changes have introduced challenges, the park has a historical reputation as a "5 star place" with a very welcoming atmosphere, including "amazing" seasonal campers who extended a warm welcome to new visitors. This underlying community spirit can still be a positive aspect for new residents.
  • On-site Amenities for Convenience: The presence of a recreation building, game room, camp store, and laundry facilities offers practical conveniences that enhance the quality of extended stays, providing options for entertainment and daily needs without leaving the campground.
  • Potential for Rustic Charm and DIY Community Effort: Although some perceive it as a lack of upkeep, the "rustic" approach can appeal to those who prefer a less manicured, more natural camping environment. Furthermore, the feedback noting that "the only time things get done now is because the campers do the work" highlights a potential for strong, engaged community involvement and self-reliance, which can be a positive feature for some.

It is important for potential campers to consider that while these features exist, recent reviews suggest that the actual state of maintenance for some amenities, particularly the pool and beach areas, may require direct inquiry and management of expectations.

Conclusion: Why This Place is Suitable for Locals

For Minnesotans, particularly those who cherish the idea of a long-term, seasonal camping spot that feels like a rustic second home, Camperville in Mora offers a unique proposition. While recent reviews highlight areas that need attention, the fundamental strengths of this campground still hold significant appeal for our local population.

Firstly, the generous size and wooded nature of the campsites are a major draw. We Minnesotans love our privacy and the feeling of being immersed in nature, and Camperville's extra-large, shaded lots provide just that – a secluded haven where you can truly unwind without feeling cramped. This ample space is increasingly rare and highly valued by those looking to set up a semi-permanent seasonal retreat.

Secondly, the exclusive access to "Lake Full of Fish" is a fantastic feature for local water enthusiasts. Having a private lake for swimming and fishing, free from public access pressures and large motorboat traffic, offers a peaceful and intimate connection with Minnesota's famed waterways. For families, the sandy beach provides a safe and enjoyable spot for kids to play by the water, even if it requires some communal effort to keep it clear of weeds, as noted by some residents. This can also foster a stronger sense of community where campers actively contribute to their shared enjoyment.

While acknowledging the concerns raised about recent management and upkeep, the underlying community spirit, fostered by long-standing seasonal campers, can still be a powerful positive. Many Minnesotans value friendly interactions and a sense of belonging, and the history of Camperville suggests a foundation for such a community. For those willing to overlook some imperfections in exchange for affordability (which, despite increases, may still be competitive for seasonal rates in our state), spacious sites, and private lake access, Camperville offers a unique opportunity.

Ultimately, for a Minnesotan looking for an affordable, spacious, and potentially community-driven seasonal camping experience with private lake access in a naturally beautiful setting, Camperville presents a distinct option. It's a place where you can create your own memories, embrace a more rustic lifestyle, and potentially contribute to the upkeep of a place that, at its heart, strives to be a welcoming seasonal home away from home.
