Camp Salty Turtle Introduce
Welcome to Camp Salty Turtle, a premier destination for RV enthusiasts seeking a blend of convenience and the classic 'Old Florida' charm of the Steinhatchee region. Located in the heart of Florida's Big Bend, this campground offers a focused, well-maintained, and professionally managed base for exploring the area's rich outdoor heritage, most famously its exceptional fishing and scalloping opportunities. For Floridians who value quick access to prime boating and a comfortable, secure place to park their rig, Camp Salty Turtle has quickly become a highly recommended choice.
The atmosphere here is intentionally welcoming, clean, and safe, as noted by local visitors who appreciate the attention to detail from the hosts. It caters specifically to the needs of travelers with large recreational vehicles and boats, providing a hassle-free experience that allows you to focus entirely on your Florida adventure, whether that’s catching the limit or simply soaking in the tranquil coastal surroundings.
Known as the "Best-Kept Secret in Florida," Steinhatchee is a charming, laid-back fishing village nestled along the Steinhatchee River and the Gulf of Mexico. This small coastal community is part of Taylor County and offers a peaceful retreat away from the crowds of more heavily commercialized Florida destinations. Camp Salty Turtle embodies this spirit, positioning itself as a clean, convenient, and friendly home away from home for a great Florida vacation.
The Steinhatchee area is renowned for its abundance of sought-after species, including snapper, grouper, and redfish. During the summer, the area truly comes alive as a top destination for scalloping, a beloved family-friendly activity in the shallow Gulf waters. Camp Salty Turtle provides the logistical support to make these trips easy, ensuring you can quickly get your boat in the water and your gear ready.
Even outside of fishing and scalloping, the local natural environment is stunning. Visitors can explore the scenic Steinhatchee River Paddling Trail, or take a short drive to the unique Steinhatchee Falls, which holds the distinction of being Florida's widest waterfall. The town also hosts the popular Fiddler Crab Festival each February, adding a touch of local culture to the outdoor recreation calendar.
Camp Salty Turtle boasts a truly exceptional location that puts all the best of Steinhatchee within easy reach. You will find it situated at:
1212 2nd Ave S, Steinhatchee, FL 32359, USA
The location is in the heart of town, offering a short and incredibly convenient one-mile drive to the public boat launch ramp. This accessibility is a major advantage for guests arriving with boats for fishing or scalloping trips. Furthermore, the area is a popular golf cart community, and the campground's central location means that a short golf cart ride or a relaxing walk can get you to a variety of local establishments. This eliminates the need to constantly move your RV or vehicle once you are settled in your site.
For daily needs and dining, the proximity to local businesses is another key highlight. You are within easy walking distance of several excellent local restaurants, including well-known spots like Kathi's Crab Shack and Fiddler's. Convenience stores and shops, such as Ace Hardware, Dollar General, Family Dollar, and Maddie's Market, are also just a few blocks away, making it simple to restock supplies without a long drive. The convenience of being located near the riverfront and parks, yet within a quiet area of town, provides a perfect balance for a relaxing stay.
The focus at Camp Salty Turtle is on providing a seamless and comfortable experience for RV travelers, particularly those bringing their own watercraft. The services are comprehensive and designed to be highly functional for the Florida outdoor enthusiast:
- Full RV Hookups: Every one of the available sites is equipped with full utility connections, including water, sewer, and electric hookups.
- Electric Service: Both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service are available, ensuring compatibility with virtually any size or style of RV, from travel trailers to large fifth wheels.
- On-Site Parking: Ample, dedicated on-site parking is a critical feature, especially for guests who arrive with both a large RV and a boat. This ensures you have plenty of room for your vehicle and watercraft, avoiding the typical parking headaches found at other resorts. As one satisfied customer shared, “Brought my 35 ft fifth wheel and my 24 foot boat. Stayed in site 3 and there was plenty of parking.”
- Pet-Friendly Policy: Camp Salty Turtle warmly welcomes dogs, and the grounds are considered off-leash friendly, allowing your furry companions to enjoy the vacation as much as you do.
- Trash Receptacles: Convenient trash cans are provided on-site for easy disposal, contributing to the overall cleanliness of the small park.
- Host Availability: Reviews frequently mention the hosts, Denise and Steve, as being pleasant, easy to communicate with, and quick to reply, ensuring a smooth reservation and stay experience.
Camp Salty Turtle stands out from larger, more commercialized parks by offering a dedicated, clean, and highly focused set of features that directly address the needs of serious RV campers and boaters visiting the Steinhatchee area.
- Accommodations for Large Rigs: The sites are designed to accommodate large campers, with some sites specifically noted for easier back-in access for rigs over 40 feet. The wide entrance and open street with no trees overhanging the sites make maneuvering even the longest rigs much simpler.
- Boat Parking: This is a major highlight. The property is explicitly set up to have "room for extra vehicles including your boat," which is essential in a popular fishing and scalloping town like Steinhatchee.
- Thoughtful Site Design: The sites feature practical, well-thought-out additions like concrete pads situated under the picnic tables and near the utility connections. This keeps your outdoor living space clean and tidy, a small detail that greatly improves the camping experience.
- Prime Walkable Location: The convenience of being able to walk to multiple restaurants, bars, and supply stores is a huge benefit, offering an enjoyable break from driving and allowing guests to experience the local town culture.
- Clean and Safe Environment: Visitors consistently describe the area as "very clean and safe," providing peace of mind for those looking for a quiet, secure place to spend their vacation nights.
- Gateway to Outdoor Recreation: The campground’s close proximity to the Gulf Coast's best scalloping grounds and fishing hot spots makes it the ideal staging area for all your water-based excursions.

Camp Salty Turtle is an excellent choice for Florida residents and visitors from across the state who are looking for a straightforward, high-quality, and centrally-located RV experience in the Nature Coast region. What makes it particularly worth choosing is its laser-focus on the needs of the Gulf Coast traveler: the professional hosts, the full hookups, and especially the critical on-site parking for large RVs and boats.
This is not a sprawling resort with countless amenities, but rather a small, impeccably maintained park that prioritizes cleanliness, safety, and most importantly, proximity to the action. It serves as the perfect base camp for your fishing, scalloping, and boating adventures, with the added benefit of being within a very short walk or golf cart ride of Steinhatchee's best local dining and shopping. For those seeking an easy, clean, and centrally located spot to fully immerse themselves in the authentic charm and outstanding outdoor opportunities of the Big Bend, Camp Salty Turtle is a highly recommended and value-driven choice.

Great place to park. Brought my 35 ft fifth wheel and my 24 foot boat. Stayed in site 3 and there was plenty of parking. In a nice area of town 1 mile to the boat launch and lots of cute restaurants around. Very clean and safe.
