Burnt Cabins Grist Mill & Campground

582 Grist Mill Rd, Burnt Cabins, PA 17215, USA

4.0
Nice stay in the cabin with the kitchen & bathroom. I think it will be a bit noisy for tent campers. The traffic on Rt. 76 and the road in are loud. Rt. 76 rumble strips, the road in is sloped so trucks are gassing it or downshifting either way - noisy, bring earplugs. Camp store person was nice, accommodating and had a recommendation on where to eat. We wish the Grist Mill was open but it's in disrepair requiring lots of money to make safe for tours. - Kib Isima

burnt cabins pa, burnt cabins grist mill

Nestled in the picturesque Allegheny Mountains of rural Fulton County, Pennsylvania, Burnt Cabins Grist Mill & Campground offers a unique blend of history and outdoor recreation. For Pennsylvanians seeking an escape from the everyday hustle, this campground provides a charming and convenient base to explore the natural beauty and historical richness of the region. Whether you’re an experienced RVer, a traditional tent camper, or looking for the comforts of a cabin, this destination promises a memorable stay with a touch of old-fashioned charm.

Camping in Pennsylvania is a beloved pastime, offering access to stunning state parks, dense forests, and a wealth of outdoor activities. Burnt Cabins Grist Mill & Campground stands out by integrating a piece of local history directly into your camping experience. The campground is situated alongside the historic Burnt Cabins Grist Mill, a water-driven mill dating back to 1840. This active mill still grinds grains, allowing visitors a tangible connection to the past. It’s not just a place to park your RV or pitch a tent; it’s an opportunity to immerse yourself in the heritage of Pennsylvania while enjoying the tranquility of nature.

Many local Pennsylvanians appreciate campgrounds that offer more than just a plot of land. They seek facilities that cater to various needs, from essential hookups for modern RVs to clean and accessible restrooms. A well-stocked camp store, friendly staff, and nearby attractions also contribute significantly to a positive camping experience. Burnt Cabins Grist Mill & Campground aims to meet these expectations by providing a range of amenities and a welcoming atmosphere, making it a suitable choice for both short getaways and longer vacations in the heart of the state.

Location and Accessibility

Burnt Cabins Grist Mill & Campground is strategically located at 582 Grist Mill Rd, Burnt Cabins, PA 17215, USA. This address places it conveniently close to the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76), making it an accessible stop for travelers traversing the state and a straightforward drive for locals across Pennsylvania. Specifically, the campground is a short distance from PA Turnpike Exit 180, and can be reached by taking Route 522 North to the village of Burnt Cabins, then bearing right onto Grist Mill Road. The campground is approximately a half-mile down on the right.

While the proximity to Route 76 (Pennsylvania Turnpike) offers excellent accessibility, it's worth noting that some reviews mention highway noise, particularly for tent campers. However, many find this a minor trade-off for the convenience. The setting itself is rural, nestled within the Allegheny Mountains, providing a scenic backdrop despite its easy access to a major highway. This balance makes it ideal for those who want to feel immersed in nature without being completely isolated from modern conveniences or major travel routes.

Beyond the immediate campground, its location in Fulton County provides access to a variety of regional attractions. Cowans Gap State Park, a popular spot for hiking, swimming, and fishing, is just a few miles away. History enthusiasts will appreciate being close to the East Broad Top Railroad, a historic narrow-gauge railroad, and the Flight 93 Memorial (though the latter is about an hour's drive). The surrounding area is also rich with opportunities for outdoor activities such as fishing in the Little Aughwick Creek which runs alongside the campground, ATV riding, and exploring other state parks and forests within a reasonable driving distance.
