Kentucky is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, from the rolling hills of the Bluegrass region to the rugged Appalachian mountains. Our state parks and national forests are dotted with campgrounds that cater to every type of outdoor enthusiast. Buckhorn Campground contributes to this rich tapestry of recreational opportunities, offering a more rustic and peaceful experience that many locals seek. Whether you're a seasoned camper or new to pitching a tent, understanding the unique characteristics of each campground helps in planning an unforgettable trip. Buckhorn Campground is particularly appealing for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle and truly immerse themselves in a quiet, natural setting.
Buckhorn Campground is conveniently located at 804 Buckhorn Dam Rd, Buckhorn, KY 41721, USA. This address places it squarely within the scenic beauty of Eastern Kentucky, often characterized by its lush forests, rolling hills, and proximity to significant natural features like Buckhorn Lake.
Accessibility to the campground involves navigating some of Kentucky's charming, winding mountain roads. While this contributes to the feeling of being "away from it all," it's worth noting that the nearest towns with substantial shopping or supplies, such as Hazard, are approximately 40 minutes away. This means that a little pre-planning and stocking up on essentials before you arrive are highly recommended to ensure a comfortable stay. Despite the drive, the journey itself is often considered part of the adventure, offering picturesque views of the Appalachian foothills. The campground's location near Buckhorn Lake and the edge of the Daniel Boone National Forest also means it serves as an excellent base for exploring the wider region, including various hiking trails and water-based activities on the lake. For locals, this means a relatively short drive for a profound escape into nature, making it an ideal weekend getaway or a longer vacation spot for those living in or around the Eastern Kentucky area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Campground was decent. Grass needed cut in most locations. No amenities or camp store. Restrooms were clean but the lights were on a timer. They came on every morning and went off in the evening. At night, restrooms were pitch black so take a flashlight or lantern lol!One last thing. Trash bins were open mesh on top and the smell permeated throughout the campground especially if the wind picked up. It was in the 90’s both days so it was pretty ripe. Staff were friendly and check in was easy.
June 22 · Steve JohnsonA nice, simple campground. Very relaxing and quiet. Shopping is quite a ways away. Stock up before you go. Loved the scenery
June 15 · Regina WheelerThe sites are well equipped, but small. There is really not anything to do at the campground for families. Do not be fooled by the pool photo on Google. There is no pool. That pool in the photo is 40 minutes away on the other side of Buckhorn Lake. We did enjoy our stay, as it was just my daughter and I on a quick getaway. If I had brought the rest of my kids I would have been disappointed at the lack of activities that are within the campground.
January 10 · K DGreat spot for the route 76 TransAm tour. Prices are reasonable. No one was at the window at the time and so I made a reservation online. Nice sites with power and water. Night light. Bathroom was clean and shower was good. Sun shines on the right side, before the night, closer to the pond. Better to get the left side, for shade. They have ice and a basketball court. I’d visit again.
July 12 · DroppinIt’s a beautiful campground but, whew, the winding roads getting here will give you gray hair.Bathrooms are very clean. AT&T service was good
