My friends and I made fond memories at the rustic cabin. There were 5 beds for us, a mostly furnished kitchen, a black-and-white TV with some DVD's provided, along with some board games and cards. We also had access to tons activities outside of the cabin-- shopping at the local town (Viroqua), visiting Kickapoo state park, swimming at a beach, etc. There are a few things I wish I knew about when booking the cabin; I'd recommend bringing your own cutting boards and knives. We also used bins to store our pantry items because there's a mouse that will scavenge for crumbs (so I'd also recommend keeping a tidy kitchen to prevent it from being invasive). There are locks on the cabin, but they don't work, so I'd just order a "portable lock" from online or something like that. There's a lovely outdoor shower, right underneath the balcony. It's accompanied by the sounds of the bubbling creek in the backyard. The only thing to keep in mind is that the curtains are see-through, but all you have to do is wear a swimming suit to resolve that.Overall, while there are some things that I wish were different, my friends and I overall had a good time at this cabin. There are definitely good fishing spots in the area. - nixy

If you're looking to disconnect from the daily grind and reconnect with friends, family, or simply yourself, the Blakley Hobbit Cabin promises a memorable and distinctive Wisconsin experience.

The Blakley Hobbit Cabin is situated at S5106 Elk Run Rd, Viola, WI 54664, USA. This location places it deep within Wisconsin's renowned Driftless Area, a unique geological region characterized by its unglaciated terrain, steep bluffs, and winding river valleys. For Wisconsin residents, reaching Viola is typically a scenic drive through charming rural landscapes. While the cabin offers a feeling of seclusion, it's conveniently close to several notable points of interest. The cabin is accessible via a gravel road, which means occasional passing cars but generally offers a quiet environment. Importantly, the cabin serves as an excellent base for exploring nearby towns like Viroqua, known for its vibrant local businesses, boutiques, coffee shops, and antique stores. Additionally, outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate its proximity to natural attractions such as Wildcat Mountain State Park, offering beautiful hiking trails, and Kickapoo State Park. The closest swimming spot, Pettibone Beach, provides a nice, uncrowded option for a refreshing dip. The drive to the cabin and its surrounding area are consistently described as very scenic and beautiful, enhancing the overall experience for those traveling from various parts of Wisconsin.

The Blakley Hobbit Cabin embraces a rustic, self-sufficient approach to lodging, providing essential comforts while encouraging guests to fully immerse themselves in the natural environment. It's important to understand that this is not a luxury resort, but rather a charming, primitive cabin experience. Based on detailed customer reviews, here's what you can expect in terms of services and amenities:

  • Rustic Cabin Accommodation: The cabin features five beds (three queen, two twin) upstairs, accessed via an outside staircase. The bedroom area is generally reported as clean and comfortable, with AC and a fan providing coolness despite potential overheating downstairs.
  • Mostly Furnished Kitchen: The kitchen is equipped with plenty of silverware, bowls, pots, and pans. However, guests are advised to bring their own cutting boards and cooking knives, as only small knives are provided. Reviewers also recommend using bins for pantry items due to the presence of a resident mouse and to maintain a tidy kitchen.
  • Outdoor Shower: A unique and "very peaceful" outdoor shower is located underneath the balcony, accompanied by the sounds of the bubbling creek. Guests should be aware that the curtains are somewhat see-through, so wearing a swimming suit is recommended. Guests also need to bring their own towels.
  • Porta-Potty: A porta-potty is available in an open "garage" with a roof, next to the parking area. It is not directly next to the cabin, which might be inconvenient in the dark, and guests should bring their own toilet paper/wet wipes.
  • Entertainment: A black-and-white TV with a few supplied DVDs (like "Napoleon Dynamite") and plenty of board games and cards are provided for indoor entertainment.
  • Firepits and Benches: There are multiple firepits and benches outside, perfect for campfires, relaxing, and enjoying the surroundings.
  • On-site Stream: A lovely stream runs along the cabin in the backyard, adding to the peaceful ambiance.
  • Parking: An open "garage" with a roof is available for parking vehicles.

It is crucial to note the situation regarding locks: reviews consistently state that the cabin's locks do not work. Guests are strongly advised to bring their own "portable lock" (a circular doorknob type) for security, and it's recommended not to come alone due to this particular feature.

The Blakley Hobbit Cabin truly shines through its unique features and highlights, offering an authentic and memorable experience for those who appreciate its rustic charm:

  • Exceptional Seclusion and Peace: The cabin's location on a gravel road, coupled with the sounds of the bubbling creek, creates a profoundly quiet and peaceful atmosphere, ideal for disconnecting.
  • Unique Outdoor Shower Experience: The outdoor shower, with its sounds of the creek, is a highlight for many, offering a refreshing and immersive way to bathe in nature.
  • Charming Rustic Aesthetic: The "Hobbit" theme and overall rustic feel contribute to a cozy and adventurous ambiance, appealing to those seeking something out of the ordinary.
  • Proximity to Local Towns and Attractions: The cabin serves as an excellent base for exploring nearby Viroqua, known for its unique shops and local businesses, and natural wonders like Wildcat Mountain State Park and Pettibone Beach.
  • Abundant Outdoor Activities: The area is great for fishing (with good spots nearby), hiking on various trails, and potentially horseback riding at local stables (requiring reservations).
  • Supportive Host Communication: Recent experiences highlight a "sweet and straightforward" new host, Samantha, who is transparent about the cabin's quirks (like the mouse and non-working locks), which helps manage expectations.
  • Scenic Drive and Surroundings: The journey to the cabin and the immediate surrounding area are described as very scenic and beautiful, enhancing the overall sense of escape.
  • Opportunity for Self-Sufficiency: The primitive nature of some amenities encourages guests to be prepared and adaptable, adding to the adventurous spirit of the stay.
