Black Brook Cove Campground Introduce
aziscohos campground
For those of us who live in New Hampshire, the allure of the Great North Woods is undeniable. We seek places where the mountains meet pristine lakes, where the air is crisp, and the sounds of loons echo across the water. If you’re yearning for a genuine wilderness escape, far from the hustle and bustle, then Black Brook Cove Campground in Wentworth Location, New Hampshire, is a destination that truly captures the essence of our state's wild beauty. This campground offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in nature, whether you prefer a rustic, off-grid experience or a more traditional RV setup.
Nestled in a scenic cove at the southeast end of the pristine Aziscohos Lake, and surrounded by the stunning western mountains that straddle the New Hampshire-Maine border, Black Brook Cove provides what many call the "Real Maine" camping experience – but it’s right here at our doorstep, just over the border in New Hampshire! This campground caters to those who appreciate a quiet, respectful atmosphere where nature is the main attraction. From the super kind and helpful staff to the reasonable prices in the camp store, it's clear this is a place run with a genuine love for the outdoors and its visitors. Whether you're casting a line for salmon and trout, paddling to a secluded island site, or simply enjoying the breathtaking views, Black Brook Cove Campground promises an authentic and unforgettable North Country adventure.
Black Brook Cove Campground is located at 4 Balsam Rd, Wentworth Location, NH 03579, USA. This unique address places it in a truly remote and beautiful corner of New Hampshire, right on the border with Maine, and importantly, nestled on the pristine Aziscohos Lake. Wentworth Location is an unorganized territory in Coos County, New Hampshire, known for its vast expanses of forest and stunning natural landscapes. The campground’s setting on Aziscohos Lake is a significant highlight, offering spectacular views and direct water access.
While the address is in New Hampshire, it's very close to the Maine border and often associated with the Rangeley Lakes Region of Maine. Access generally involves driving on Route 16, a scenic but sometimes less-maintained road that winds through the remote areas of both states. Reviews suggest that "The roads to the sites tho need some leveling out to make travel a bit easier for the people AND vehicles," indicating that while accessible, visitors should be prepared for potentially rougher road conditions, especially within the campground itself. However, campers with motorboats can easily reach private, primitive boat-in sites like "Beaver Island," which is a 10-15 minute motorboat ride from the main general store. Despite the rustic approach, the reward is an unparalleled sense of seclusion and connection with nature. For those driving from further south in New Hampshire, it’s a journey into the heart of the North Country, perfect for disconnecting.
Black Brook Cove Campground provides a range of services and facilities to support various camping styles, from full-service RVing to remote, primitive tent camping.
- Diverse Campsites: The campground offers a wide variety of sites including secluded tent sites, large pull-through RV sites (up to 45 ft max length with 30-amp electric hookups, some with water), wooded, beach, and waterfront sites.
- Primitive/Boat-In Sites: For a true wilderness experience, primitive off-grid sites, including remote "drive to" sites, wilderness island sites, and water-access sites like those on Beaver Island, are available. These often feature outhouses, picnic tables, and large stone fire pits, but no electricity or running water.
- Clean Modern Bathrooms: The main campground features "clean modern bathrooms" with flush toilets and hot showers, appreciated by campers for their upkeep.
- Well-Stocked General Store: An on-site general store is available, described by customers as "very reasonable" in its pricing, offering anything campers might have forgotten. It also sells firewood and fishing licenses.

- RV Dump Station: An on-site dump station is available for RV campers.
- Guide Service: Black Brook Cove Guide Service, connected to the campground, offers guided fishing trips for salmon and trout (on Aziscohos and other area lakes), remote fishing trips, and fly fishing.
- Shuttle Service: A shuttle service is available, which can be particularly useful for accessing remote sites or for various outdoor activities.
- Firewood Sales: Firewood bundles are available for sale at the store (it's essential to buy local firewood to prevent invasive species).
Black Brook Cove Campground stands out for its unique features that emphasize its raw, natural beauty and commitment to an authentic outdoor experience.
- Pristine Aziscohos Lake Access: The campground is nestled on the southeast end of Aziscohos Lake, renowned for its pristine waters, spectacular views, and excellent fishing opportunities, particularly for salmon and trout. - Direct Access to Outdoor Recreation: Beyond fishing and boating on Aziscohos Lake, the surrounding area offers extensive opportunities for hiking, wildlife watching (moose are common), and exploring the vast forest.
As a privately owned and operated campground focused on a unique, rustic wilderness experience, Black Brook Cove Campground may not frequently advertise a wide range of short-term promotions in the same way larger commercial chains do. Their pricing structure focuses on daily rates for various site types, with potential savings for longer stays.
- Daily Rates: Standard rates are $32.00 per night for East Shore/Island Sites, Lincoln Brook, and Twin Brook Sites. An additional charge of $10.00 per person per night for extra persons applies.
- Seasonal Operation: The campground operates seasonally, typically "Open May 1 - October 31" or from Memorial Day to Columbus Day, with variations depending on weather before and after these dates. Booking during shoulder seasons (early May or late October) might implicitly offer a quieter experience due to fewer crowds, though rates may remain consistent.
- Guide Service Packages: While not a direct camping discount, booking a guided fishing or hunting trip through Black Brook Cove Guide Service might offer a comprehensive package deal that combines guiding fees with lodging, though details would need to be confirmed directly with them.
Given that promotions are not widely publicized, the best approach for potential visitors from New Hampshire and beyond is to contact Black Brook Cove Campground directly via phone. Inquiring about any potential discounts for extended stays, group bookings, or specific seasonal offers during your preferred travel dates would be the most effective way to learn about any available special rates. Their website may also provide the most current information on pricing and any seasonal considerations.

For us New Hampshirites, Black Brook Cove Campground is an exceptional choice for a wilderness camping adventure, offering a true taste of the North Country right here in our backyard. While its physical address places it in New Hampshire, its proximity to the Maine border and its direct access to Aziscohos Lake—a gem shared by both states—makes it a uniquely convenient yet wonderfully remote destination. We appreciate the opportunity to escape to places where privacy and natural beauty are paramount, and Black Brook Cove delivers this in spades, especially with its coveted primitive and boat-in island sites.
The "amazing view" from the lakeside sites, the crystal-clear waters, and the opportunities for unparalleled fishing (particularly for salmon and trout) speak directly to what we love about our state's outdoors. Black Brook Cove Campground Reviews
The sites were clean and just a very short walk down to the water, which has an amazing view!! The staff were super kind and helpful! And the prices in the camp store are very reasonable!! The roads to the sites tho need some leveling out to make travel a bit easier for the people AND vehicles, but other than that definitely will be returning!
Sep 03, 2024 · DamienIf your looking for a beautiful private, primitive, off grid paddle or boat-in site, they have you covered! We LOVED our 3 night stay on Beaver Island! Clean site, no other people around, outhouse, big picnic table, large stone fire pit. The general store was a 10-15 minute motor boat boat ride away, and had anything we had forgotten. Really nice owners!
Jul 13, 2021 · Cindy FlahertyStayed here at the end of the season and had the majority of the property and to ourselves. Gorgeous mid-October stay. Walked along the edge of the river. Our campsite was also near the river which had views, but no direct access to the water. Overall, beautiful, peaceful, and quiet. We really enjoyed detaching from everything (no internet or cell service while there).
Mar 02, 2024 · William _Great place to get away from it all. Beautiful lake, gorgeous woods and mountains and the sounds of the wildlife sitting around the campfire really top it off.
Dec 26, 2023 · James Knick (Jay)We LOVED it here. Although we only stayed the night we are planning on returning. It was quiet, which is important to us at night with a small child. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our air mattress actually popped and a seasonal gave us some duct tape to cover the hole since the office had already closed for the night, which was so nice of them. All the seasonal folks we talked with were so friendly. And the sites were clean. The bathrooms were clean. The lake was beautiful.Edit to add: We’ve now been here a few times, staying at both the main campground and east shore and we have nothing but good things to say about the campground and people that work there. It’s our favorite spot to camp up there.
