Big River Campground Introduce
Hello, fellow Californians! Are you searching for an authentic outdoor experience that connects you with the raw beauty of our state's wilderness? Look no further than Big River Campground in Willits. This isn't your average glamping spot; it's a rustic, no-frills campground designed for those who appreciate the genuine essence of nature, offering a straightforward base for exploring the diverse landscapes of Mendocino County.
Big River Campground provides a classic camping adventure where the focus is on the great outdoors. Imagine setting up camp beside a peaceful creek, surrounded by the natural flora of Northern California. It's a place for unplugging, enjoying a campfire under the stars, and embracing the simple pleasures of being immersed in nature. While it offers a more rugged experience, its natural charm and convenient location make it a compelling option for local adventurers seeking an accessible escape.
Big River Campground is conveniently located at 15850 Fort Bragg - Willits Rd, Willits, CA 95490, USA. This places it directly off Highway 20, a major artery connecting the inland areas of Mendocino County with the picturesque coast. For Californians driving from the Bay Area or Sacramento, the journey typically involves taking Highway 101 north to Willits, then heading west on Highway 20. Its direct roadside location makes it exceptionally easy to find and access, even for those unfamiliar with the area.
The campground's immediate proximity to Highway 20 means that while it is highly accessible, there may be ambient traffic noise. However, this trade-off is often worthwhile for the ease of entry and the ability to quickly get to and from nearby attractions. Willits itself, known as the "Gateway to the Redwoods," offers basic amenities and supplies, making it convenient for campers to stock up before or during their stay. Furthermore, its position on the Fort Bragg-Willits Road means it serves as a natural stopover or base camp for those planning to explore both the inland forests and the rugged beauty of the Mendocino Coast. The location right next to a small creek adds to its natural appeal, offering a serene backdrop despite its roadside setting.

Big River Campground Reviews
Campsite was completely trashed. There was toilet paper all in the woods, trash in the fire ring and campsite, and someone left their tent in the trees at our site. Lots of highway noise. Several inconsiderate people being loud and letting their kids run all over the campground screaming, too.
Jul 26, 2022 · Shay StamperVery pretty location, right next to a small creek. But is directly off of Hwy 20 so the traffic drowns out the nature sounds. Cal Fire staff was very nice when confirming our campsite tag.
