4.0
Exactly what I expect from a really good dispersed camping location.Great roads in and outNice clean vaulted restroom down by the boat landing.Wonderful natural secluded outdoor experience. Enjoyed listening to the owls at night and the loons on the lake in the evening. We also spotted the rare and on the endangered species bumblebees. The wild flowers were incredible, bright, and vibrant.Yes the mosquitos and horsefly's were bad. Wear your hat net and long sleeves and your good to go with no need for bug spray. The peace and quiet was so enjoyable and relaxing. We camped there with our larger truck camper and had no problem getting in and out. There was a big pothole on the camping loop, we chose to do a little reverse and not go through it. - JoyGenea Furnstahl

Big Rice Lake Rustic Campground offers a genuinely rustic camping experience, perfect for those who cherish peace and quiet, the sounds of nature, and starry nights. It’s a place where the vibrant wildflowers bloom, the loons call across the water, and the owls serenade you to sleep. This campground is renowned among locals for its secluded feel and untouched beauty, making it an ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

For centuries, and continuing to this day, Big Rice Lake has been a significant site for wild rice harvesting. This shallow, expansive lake (approximately 1870 acres with a maximum depth of 5 feet) plays a vital role in the ecosystem and offers a unique natural setting. The campground itself is often described by visitors as exactly what one would expect from a truly good dispersed camping location, providing a sense of privacy and a deep connection to the environment. Whether you’re a seasoned camper with a large truck camper or a tent enthusiast, the ease of access and natural appeal make it a highly desirable spot for an authentic outdoor adventure.

From Virginia, travelers can take Highway 53 north for 8 miles to County Road 131, then turn right for 1 mile. A left turn onto County Road 68 for 0.3 miles leads to Pelton Road County 405 (which becomes UT8116) for 2 miles.
