Beaver Lakes Campground is located at 73 Columbia Gas Rd, Calvin, WV 26660, USA. Its position in the heart of West Virginia contributes significantly to its charm as a secluded mountain retreat. While reviewers have playfully noted it can be "difficult to find," this characteristic is ultimately seen as a benefit, contributing to its peaceful and uncrowded atmosphere. The journey to Beaver Lakes is part of the adventure, guiding you into a truly serene natural setting.
Despite its secluded feel, the campground offers a surprising level of convenience. For essential needs, "gas and simple groceries are 100 yards from the entrance," making quick stops incredibly easy. For more extensive supplies, a "larger store is about 5 miles away," ensuring that campers can stock up without venturing too far from their natural haven. This thoughtful balance means you can enjoy the remoteness without feeling entirely cut off from necessities.
Furthermore, connectivity isn't an issue for many, with a reviewer specifically mentioning "Cell (T-Mobile) was 4 bars," which is a pleasant surprise in such a mountainous region. The extensive property itself provides ample room to explore, and its location in Nicholas County means it’s within a reasonable drive of some of West Virginia's most famous natural attractions, including the Gauley River, Summersville Lake, and the New River Gorge area. This makes Beaver Lakes Campground an ideal base for exploring the rich outdoor offerings of our Mountain State.

However, the value proposition lies in its unique offerings and the exceptional hospitality of its host, John. It's always best to inquire directly when making your reservation, but here are some common types of offers or flexible policies you might encounter at such a establishment:
Flexible Pricing for Groups or Extended Stays: Given the variety of sites (including group and remote options) and the host's accommodating nature, there might be flexibility in pricing for longer stays or for groups booking multiple sites. It's always worth discussing your specific needs.
Potential for Free Firewood: As noted in reviews, the host occasionally provides free cleared wood. While not a guaranteed promotion, it's a testament to the added value and generosity you might experience during your stay.
Off-Season Rates: If the campground operates year-round or has a distinct off-peak season, there might be slightly reduced rates during these quieter periods, offering an even more peaceful experience at a potentially lower cost.
No-Frills Value: The primary "promotion" is often the excellent value for the experience. Campers receive ample space, a serene environment, and highly attentive service at a competitive price, especially considering the privacy offered.
Because Beaver Lakes Campground prides itself on its personal touch, directly calling and speaking with John is the best way to learn about any current availability, pricing structures, and potential special arrangements for your visit. Beaver Lakes Campground Reviews
A little late in sharing this gem of a campground. Usually we never tell anyone about a place like this but I just have too.The campground is difficult to find thank goodness but it’s worth it. I stayed up in all refer to it as level 2. There are many sections so it could be crowded yet everyone is spread out. John is exceptionally kind and that goes a long way. He had been clearing brush and pointed out that the wood was free. Don’t expect that but it was a warm change. There are several levels for RV’s and fantastic high mountain spots for tents. Also their are quite a few deer, hunting is not allowed on the extensive property. Fishing is catch and release, gas and simple groceries are 100 yards from the entrance, a larger store is about 5 miles away. Cell (T-Mobile) was 4 bars. Price $.Now you’ll understand why we don’t tell people about places like this.
Nov 06, 2022 · Chuck FitzpatrickWonderful host, huge property to explore. Cabin, tent or RV sites, even group or remote. Very helpful host, checked on us often and gave great recommendations for local exploring.
Oct 06, 2024 · Carol MitchellI stayed at this campground in May 2021 on a kayaking trip to the Gauley River. The campground was beautiful, large, and quiet and the owner provided top notch customer service! He was very communicative and waited up extremely late until we arrived so he could personally show us to our campsite. I was glad he did because it was a long drive through the campground in the dark and I might not have found the way to the right place without him. The tent camping area is serene, on top of a plateau with an amazing view. It was very quiet, and the area available for tent camping was quite large. There was only an outhouse but it didn't even smell bad! There was water available in the primitive camping area. The owner talked about plans for adding a shower house in the future. I will definitely be staying here again next time I am in the area. It is clear the owner cares about campers having a positive experience.
Feb 24, 2022 · Mary SpikowskiThis is an amazing campground where you will find organic camping location with the luxury of full hookups. John is an awesome host and made sure we had everything to our liking for our stay. He even let us explore his vast property to enjoy views and serenity. This campground is away from rush and about half and hour away from New River Gorge National Park and several other places to hike and enjoy the streams of Birch River etc. Will definitely come back again when visiting the area or passing by which we do atleast once a year.
May 31, 2021 · Raheel RaoThe entire experience with John was incredible. He is a fantastic host that goes above and beyond anything we expected. It started when we pulled off the scenic road onto the property and John welcomed us and gave us the grand tour (after sharing some stories about his family and great pictures of some fish). We decided to take our vintage airstream to a remote site that had the most spectacular view of the valley below and mountains all around us. Our son and his wife pitched a tent near the fire pit that was well stocked. John checked in on us, brought more wood, a modem-day fire starter, as well as a bag of potatoes - which we sliced up and cooked on the open fire to add to our steaks we brought for our first meal in this beautiful location. We explored a part of the property on our hike the next morning and saw deer, rabbits, and a speculator amount of fall colors before heading out to the Gauley River area for more site seeing. There had been some rain during the night and the road from our site was a little slippery coming down the hill. We stopped at the house when we returned and John said the weather forecast was for more rain, but would make sure to bring his tractor out in the morning before we left to make sure the road was in good shape for us. I cannot express how great it was for John to come out and make sure we could safely get down the hill. This exemplifies our experience with John and is also the reason we will be coming back.
