Basswood Resort Reviews
We have been going to Basswood off/on for 12 years. We stayed this weekend, and the rooms have gone downhill. The floors were coming apart, there was a sewer smell, and there were dead bugs everywhere. My mom's cabin had so many ants that she was getting bit in bed, and so were my niece and my son, who stayed in the loft area. The toilet was also dirty from the guests before and had stool left in the toilet and all kinds of yellow stuff. The manager was told about it, and my mom was brushed off, and the manager acted like it was nothing. My mom continued to complain, and the manager thought a free pizza would solve the problem. The ladies at the front desk were super sweet and apologized for everything, but not the manager. I understand that you are in the woods, but you still shouldn't have to sleep with bugs biting you all night or use a dirty toilet. They charge a lot for these cabins per night, and the least they can do is make sure they are clean and not infested with ants. We definitely will not be coming back.
Jun 29, 2025 · Erin MartinezWe've only stayed in the sleeper cabins. They are small and quaint. The floors this last time could have been cleaner. The family activities during water weekend were very fun. Our kids enjoyed the pool, disc golf, shuffle board and the campground water gun shootout. The disc golf course was missing 3 holes. We ordered pizza Friday night and it was great, good service and delivered to our cabin. We will stay there again!
Jun 23, 2025 · Deborah McMahonWe stayed 4 nights at this campground. We were in KC for a family event and this campground was the closest in proximity. We did not partake in any of the events or use the amenities. There seemed to be many activities, including at least 4 fishing ponds. The pool and game areas seemed well maintained but we only walked by and didn’t use them. The public restrooms were clean and well maintained. The office staff was friendly and helpful. There is a really nice store and they offer food service (pizza). The campsites are very tight. There would have been no way for us to sit outside, have a fire or cook without being right next to the neighboring RV. We were in site 77 and this back area seemed to be the best part of the campground. There is a huge group of people who live here FULL-TIME. There were also many long term and seasonal campers spread throughout the campground. Main Street is the worst area with run down RVs, junk around the rvs, dog fences, chairs, etc… and it’s just scary looking. We tried to avoid this area but you have to drive through it to get to the rest of the campground. I think they should mention that this is mainly a full time/seasonal campground in the website. Also, they really need to clean up this area. It ruins the rest of the campground. We witnessed one long term family’s behavior since they were right in front of us. The kids (maybe 6, 4, and 2 years old) were left unattended most of the time. One night the kids were throwing handfuls of rocks at the vehicles in neighboring sites. I know that this is not a management problem but it is an example of the types of incidents that we saw here. We did not see the inside of the cabins but the outside seemed to be in need of maintenance. Overall, this could be a nice place if they would get rid of the full timers or at least clean up the area and space out the sites.
Jun 11, 2025 · C RinnWe reserved the Jacuzzi suite room. When you first walked in the linoleum by the front door was all coming up and bugs on the floor. The carpeting by the corner Jacuzzi was all ripped and coming up. The tile around the Jacuzzi tub and in the bathroom was all coming off the walls And the vanity door when open came Off. One of the electrical outlets did not work. The guttering on the Building was full and trees growing out of them. The light by the road and steps was not working, making it dangerous walking to vehicle. The cost of $160. Per night was too expensive for the room that was falling apart/ this was not a Marriott!!
Jun 30, 2025 · Claudette KelingWe did not have a good experience at all. We are not new to camping and have stayed at tons of campgrounds around the US. We are well rehearsed with normal stays. Unfortunately, we did not get to attend any of their events as they did not start at the time listed online or the sheet they gave us upon check in except the last event which started way early. We were the furthest spot away from activities and up a STEEP hill which they did not inform us of. This is not an accessible campground and there are very steep hills with loose rock. The tent sites are not close to anything and are incredibly hard to walk to from the activities or front desk as they are on the complete opposite side of the campground down hills. Myself and one of my children had trouble navigating these hills and rock. They did not explain any of this to us when we checked in even though I said I had three children and one had special needs. I also asked if it was walkable from our site. They assured me it was. My car barely could make it up the steep rock hill and slid a few times just trying to park at our site. Raccoons wrecked all of our stuff overnight even though we put food up which took forever to clean up. There were people standing in our campsite when we finally made it back to the site from other side of Basswood whom I asked to leave! Still unsure if they took anything. The campsite next to us had a crying kid all night and yelling parent. There was a car alarm that went off for ten minutes or so. And the raccoons kept us up as well. We were right next to the bathrooms (with a flood light) which had a banging door the entire time people went in and out. Other things happened as well. I told the staff at the desk about our experience and they didn’t offer any solution although they were kind and said they would forward to management. I also sent two emails to management with no response. We really wanted to enjoy the events and experience but did not. The only good thing about our trip was the fishing which was good. I would like to be refunded for our night due to the circumstances but haven’t had any response yet.
