We’ll delve into all these details, covering its remote location, the shared amenities that foster a sense of community, the standout features like its acclaimed disc golf courses, and how to prepare for a truly memorable stay. Base Camp Adventure Lodge is located in Utah 84532, USA. While the specific city or county isn't provided, the reviews strongly suggest its proximity to the Moab area, a hub for outdoor recreation in southeastern Utah. This region is famous for its dramatic red rock landscapes, world-class mountain biking, hiking, and off-roading opportunities. Its location places it within a reasonable drive for many Utah residents, though the final leg of the journey requires careful consideration.
Accessibility to Base Camp Adventure Lodge is a crucial point highlighted by previous visitors, and it's something every potential guest, especially local Utahns familiar with our diverse terrains, needs to take seriously. Reviews explicitly state, "You definitely need 4x4 high clearance or off-road vehicle." Another review corroborates this, mentioning, "the road there is rough, although our Subaru Forester was adequate." This indicates that while a dedicated off-road vehicle provides the most comfortable and secure journey, some high-clearance AWD vehicles might manage, but caution and skill are advised. This isn't a paved road drive to a roadside stop; it's an adventure to get there.
For those who may experience "anxiety or fear of heights," one reviewer strongly suggests "taking what you need to not have a panic attack on the drive there and back." This honest feedback underscores that the access road likely involves challenging terrain, potentially with steep inclines, declines, or exposure. This level of access contributes to the lodge's remote and peaceful atmosphere, filtering out casual visitors and attracting those truly seeking solitude and adventure. While the journey might be intimidating for some, the consensus is that it's "definitely worth it!" for the unparalleled experience that awaits. Always check current road conditions, especially if there has been recent precipitation, as rough roads can become even more challenging.
Base Camp Adventure Lodge offers a unique set of services that distinguish it from a traditional campground or hotel. It operates more like a communal living experience centered around outdoor adventure. Here’s a breakdown of the services and facilities based on customer reviews:
Shared Living Spaces: A core aspect of the lodge is its communal environment. Reviews highlight "The living room and kitchen are shared spaces." This fosters interaction among guests and creates a friendly, "commune-like" atmosphere "in a good way." This setup encourages shared experiences and camaraderie among fellow outdoor enthusiasts.
Shared Outdoor Spaces/Decks: Beyond the indoor common areas, the lodge provides "outdoor spaces/decks" that are also shared. These areas are likely designed to maximize enjoyment of the magnificent surroundings, offering spots for relaxation, socializing, and taking in the views.
Accommodation (Bedrooms): While not a traditional campground with individual campsites, the lodge offers private "bedrooms." Guests noted that these rooms "aren't large, but we were only in ours to sleep, so it was just fine." This confirms that personal sleeping quarters are provided within the lodge structure.
Disc Golf Courses: A standout service and major draw for many visitors are the "AMAZING disc golf course!" and "Both disc golf courses are great and well-marked." The presence of both "short and long hole options" indicates well-designed and versatile courses catering to different skill levels, offering a significant recreational activity right on site.
On-Site Hosting and Guidance: Tom, identified as "a great host," provides support and guidance. He is described as having a "good sense of humor, able to answer all of our questions, and a great steward of the land." This personal touch from a knowledgeable host enhances the overall experience, especially for those seeking local insights or assistance. Kobae, presumably a dog, is mentioned as "just an added bonus!", suggesting a friendly, pet-inclusive environment or a resident pet that adds to the welcoming atmosphere.
Food Preparation Facilities: Given the shared kitchen and the strong recommendation to "bring all your food" because "you very likely won't want to leave to drive back into Moab for meals," it’s clear that guests are expected to prepare their own meals using the lodge's kitchen facilities. This emphasizes the remote nature of the lodge and the self-sufficient aspect of the stay.
Base Camp Adventure Lodge distinguishes itself with several compelling features and highlights that make it a truly unique destination for Utah locals seeking adventure and tranquility:
World-Class Disc Golf: This is arguably the most prominent highlight. Reviews rave about the "AMAZING disc golf course!" and that "Both disc golf courses are great and well-marked," offering "just the right amount of challenge" with "short and long hole options." For disc golf enthusiasts in Utah, this alone could be reason enough to visit, providing a top-tier playing experience amidst stunning scenery.
Magnificent Natural Surroundings: The "surroundings are absolutely magnificent," as one reviewer succinctly put it. This highlights the breathtaking natural beauty that envelops the lodge, offering unparalleled views and a deep connection to the iconic red rock landscapes of Utah. This is a key draw for anyone seeking a true escape into nature.
Remote and Peaceful Atmosphere: Guests describe it as "one of the most peaceful, remote places we've stayed other than backpacking trips." This is a significant highlight for those looking to genuinely disconnect, escape urban noise, and find deep tranquility. The challenging access road, while a hurdle, contributes directly to this highly valued remoteness.
Communal and Welcoming Vibe: The lodge fosters a unique "commune-like" atmosphere "in a good way," with "shared spaces" like the living room, kitchen, and outdoor decks. This encourages interaction and camaraderie among guests, creating a friendly and welcoming environment where you can connect with like-minded individuals. The owners and host, Tom, are described as "very kind and welcoming" and "a great host," further enhancing this positive communal spirit.
Authentic Outdoor Experience: This isn't a luxury resort; it's an authentic experience for those who appreciate the raw beauty of Utah. The fact that the "vast majority of our time was spent outside" underscores that the lodge is designed to facilitate immersion in the outdoor environment rather than provide extensive indoor amenities.
Host Stewardship: Tom's role as a "great steward of the land" indicates a commitment to preserving the natural environment and perhaps promoting responsible outdoor recreation, a value that resonates strongly with many environmentally conscious Utahns.

For Utah locals, Base Camp Adventure Lodge is more than just a place to stay; it's an invitation to experience our state's wild heart in a truly authentic and unforgettable way. Its unique blend of challenging access, unparalleled natural beauty, and communal spirit makes it particularly well-suited for residents who truly understand and appreciate the diverse landscapes and adventurous ethos of Utah.
Firstly, the Lodge's remote location and the requirement for a high-clearance or 4x4 vehicle immediately filter for a certain type of Utahn: one who isn't afraid of a little adventure to reach a hidden gem. We're a state where off-roading, hiking rugged trails, and seeking out less-traveled paths are part of the outdoor culture. For those with the right vehicle and a spirit of exploration, the journey to Base Camp Adventure Lodge becomes part of the adventure itself, rewarding them with unparalleled peace and magnificent scenery that casual visitors might miss.
Secondly, the focus on outdoor activities, especially the "AMAZING disc golf course," caters directly to a popular recreational pursuit within Utah. Having not one, but two well-marked courses with varying challenges, right at the lodge, offers a dedicated experience for disc golf enthusiasts who might otherwise drive hours to find similar quality. This niche but popular activity makes it a prime destination for local clubs, groups, or individuals passionate about the sport.
Moreover, the "commune-like" atmosphere, with shared living and outdoor spaces, resonates with a desire for connection and community that many Utahns value. In a world increasingly driven by isolation, the opportunity to interact with like-minded individuals, share stories, and create new connections in a peaceful, remote setting is a powerful draw. It's an opportunity to truly disconnect from digital distractions and reconnect with people and nature.
Finally, the "magnificent" surroundings and the "peaceful, remote" nature of the lodge offer the quintessential Utah escape. It's a place where you can truly immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring landscapes that define our state, without the crowds often found at more accessible destinations. For locals seeking a deep sense of tranquility, breathtaking views, and an experience that feels truly off-grid yet welcoming, Base Camp Adventure Lodge provides an unmatched opportunity. It's a testament to the fact that some of Utah's best experiences are reserved for those willing to venture a little further.

AMAZING disc golf course! The owners were very kind and welcoming! Would highly recommend this place. You definitely need 4x4 high clearance or off road vehicle. If you have anxiety or fear of heights then I strongly suggest taking what you need to not have a panic attack on the drive there and back. But definitely worth it!
May 31, 2025 · Nicole FraiseWe gave this 5 stars and loved our stay, but you have to know what you're getting into -- the road there is rough, although our Subaru Forester was adequate. You aren't headed to a fancy, luxury hotel -- I think this experience might be a little similar to living in a commune, in a good way. The living room and kitchen are shared spaces, as are the outdoor spaces/decks; you very likely won't want to leave to drive back into Moab for meals, so bring all your food. The bedrooms aren't large, but we were only in ours to sleep, so it was just fine. The vast majority of our time was spent outside -- the surroundings are absolutely magnificent. It was one of the most peaceful, remote places we've stayed other than backpacking trips. Both disc golf courses are great and well-marked. They were just the right amount of challenge and we appreciated the short and long hole options. Tom was a great host - good sense of humor, able to answer all of our questions, and a great steward of the land. Kobae was just an added bonus!
Mar 31, 2025 · Jenny RothboeckBy far the best part of our trip! Tom is awesome, the Female Hogan was great, and renting the Polaris was totally with it!
Apr 05, 2025 · John DzieciolowskiIf you have a HIGH CLEARANCE VEHICLE and a good spare tire (lol) this place is AMAZING. Owner on site ans super friendly. Water on sight. Kayaks and side by sides to rent. Dis golf course, wind caves. And don't get me started on the tortoise or the hot dog hole. Beautiful scenery, friendly folks, very communal. My friend cried 3 times on that road though. Chicken corners and hurrah pass are not for the weak! I will definitely return. My subaru forester did fine on the road, but I did wake up the next day with a flat tire, luckily I had a spare and they have an air compressor on property.
Apr 16, 2025 · Jennifer ZilliouxMoab's best kept secrert! We camped during the tournament in March. This place is amazing. The location is incredible and the host(s) are super cool and the bathroom was kept super clean.
