The Bangor / Holden KOA Holiday, nestled in Holden, Maine, is precisely that kind of destination. It’s not just a place to park your RV or pitch a tent; it’s a vibrant, family-friendly hub designed to enhance your Maine adventures, whether you’re passing through or settling in for a longer stay to discover the Downeast region.
This KOA Holiday campground has earned a reputation for its exceptional customer service and dedication to guest satisfaction. Many local campers rave about the friendly staff and the consistently clean facilities, particularly the bathhouses, which are often highlighted as "phenomenal." The ownership and staff are clearly committed to providing a welcoming and well-maintained environment, as evidenced by ongoing updates and upgrades to the property, including a new well/water treatment system and improvements to the pool infrastructure and store. This continuous investment ensures a quality experience for every visitor.
One common consideration with campgrounds near main roads is traffic noise, and Bangor / Holden KOA Holiday is no exception. However, savvy campers have shared a helpful tip: while sites near the entrance and playground might experience some road noise, those tucked further back in the campground offer a more secluded and peaceful experience, often featuring wooded, private settings. This flexibility in site selection allows campers to tailor their stay to their preference for quietude or proximity to activities.
What truly makes Bangor / Holden KOA Holiday stand out for Mainers is its comprehensive offering. From a variety of lodging options to a plethora of on-site activities and its strategic location for exploring regional attractions, it truly provides a full-service camping experience. It’s a place where kids can play freely, pets are welcomed with open arms, and adults can relax knowing all their needs are met. It embodies the essence of a memorable Maine family getaway, blending convenience with genuine hospitality.
Location and Accessibility
The Bangor / Holden KOA Holiday is ideally situated at 602 Main Road, Holden, ME 04429, USA. Its location is a significant advantage for travelers exploring the diverse landscapes of Maine. Holden is a town directly adjacent to Bangor, Maine's third-largest city, which serves as a major commercial and cultural hub for the central and Downeast regions of the state.
The campground’s position on Main Road (Route 1A) ensures excellent accessibility for all types of vehicles, from passenger cars to the largest RVs. While this convenient roadside location means easy entry and exit, it's worth noting the potential for some road noise, particularly for sites closer to the entrance. However, the campground's layout includes more secluded, wooded sites further back, offering quieter alternatives. For those coming from out of state or traveling across Maine, the easy access off major routes is a definite plus, minimizing navigational challenges.
One of the most compelling aspects of this KOA’s location for Mainers is its strategic proximity to a wealth of popular attractions. It’s just a short drive from downtown Bangor, home to the Cole Land Transportation Museum, Darling's Waterfront Pavilion (a popular concert venue), and various dining and shopping options. More importantly for many, it serves as an excellent jumping-off point for exploring the iconic Downeast coastal region. Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, and other charming coastal towns like Belfast are all within a manageable 45-minute to an hour's drive, making day trips incredibly convenient. This central location truly allows campers to experience both the urban amenities of Bangor and the unparalleled natural beauty of coastal Maine, without having to pack up and move camp every few days.

Bangor / Holden KOA Holiday Reviews
Didn't give stars for rooms, because we use our RV. That said from the outside they look clean and nice. Customer service is 100%. You can say a lot about a place how they keep their restrooms. They are phenomenal! Will choose this place again!
May 14, 2025 · Elise Veronica HoffmannI’ve read some reviews regarding the noise from traffic. We spent the weekend hear, at one site near the playground close to the campground entrance, and did not find it disturbing. If you were looking for more quiet, take a lot further back in the campground, they are wooded, private, and you cannot hear the road noise. We had a great experience! The owners and their staff were beyond friendly and accommodating. It rained one day while we were there, but they still opened the pool and the jump pad for my child…even though she was the only one crazy enough to be out playing! The bathhouse was clean in the showers are also clean and large. There is a very nice laundry site as well. They have a store, pizza, ice cream, and more! This campground is pet friendly and they have a fenced in dog area for your pets to do their business. They even provide bags to clean up after them keeping the area clean. My dogs had a great time! We plan to visit here again and had a wonderful time!
Sep 09, 2024 · Dennis QuintPride of ownership is very evident in this campground. We stayed here years ago and again recently. So many awesome updates. The bathrooms were very clean and it was very quiet during the evening so easy to get to sleep. Love the proximity to Bangor. A couple things to note there is some road noise from the fairly busy road it's located on and some early morning noise from the lumber store yard right next door but all in all a wonderful spot to stay if your in the area camping.
Sep 03, 2024 · Patrick FlowersImmaculately clean bath & showers up front, quiet campers as mostly seasonal. No kids running crazy! Unfortunately on a busy biway so if near entrance you will hear the traffic. We had an amazing tent spot with electric, water and covered shelving that made the whole set up a dream for cooking.Would stay again for sure!
Sep 02, 2024 · Loretta WhiteThe owners cussed us out after they wouldn’t let us swim. They are liars and make things up. If you have kids do not come here
