Atkinson Motorsports Park Introduce
For those in Illinois seeking an adrenaline-pumping outdoor adventure combined with convenient camping, Atkinson Motorsports Park offers a unique and thrilling experience. Located in Atkinson, IL, this destination is much more than just a campground; it’s a dedicated motorsports park spanning over 200 acres, providing diverse trails for side-by-sides (SXS), ATVs, and dirt bikes. It's a place where the roar of engines meets the peace of the Illinois countryside, offering a distinct blend of excitement and relaxation for enthusiasts and their families.
Atkinson Motorsports Park, also known as Gob Hill, is built for the thrill-seeker and the outdoor adventurer. Its expansive terrain includes a variety of landscapes, from wooded trails that are scenic and tight, to open valleys, hill climbs, and even mud bogs. This diversity ensures that riders of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned veterans, will find challenges and enjoyment. The park is committed to providing a fun and accessible environment, operating on a self-service basis for day passes when the main office isn't open, making it easy for visitors to get right to the action.
Beyond the trails, the park understands the importance of comfort and convenience for its visitors, offering a dedicated campground. This allows guests to extend their adventure, turning a day of riding into an overnight or multi-day escape. The presence of essential amenities ensures that campers can recharge and be ready for more action the next day. While the park maintains a rustic charm, it strives to meet the basic needs of its campers, providing a practical base for off-road enthusiasts.
It's worth noting that, like many natural environments, the park's wooded areas may not always be "super maintained" and can feature natural elements such as dense foliage. One review mentioned the significant presence of poison ivy along trails and at some campsites. Visitors should always exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings, and it’s advisable to take preventative measures such as wearing appropriate clothing and carrying itch relief. Additionally, some campers have noted issues with the water quality in the bathrooms, describing a strong sulfuric odor. While full hookups are available, it might be wise to bring your own water for drinking and personal hygiene. Despite these points, the overall sentiment points to Atkinson Motorsports Park as a cool, fun, and affordable "little place" close to home for Illinois residents seeking a unique outdoor motorsports and camping experience.

Atkinson Motorsports Park Reviews
We took our sxs on a Monday. No one was there. It's a fun little park close to home. The articulating was fun. The wood trails are nice and scenic and tight! Not super maintained. Overall cool little place. The office isn't opened but they have you sign a waiver and put your $20 each person in the slot. They require helmets. If you are a camper they have a little campground too. Bathrooms available but the water is rank. Easy and fun park for a sxs. It would be cool if they allowed jeeps!
May 21, 2022 · Autumn PThis was a last minute overnight stay. We got there after closing hours. The campground was pretty empty. The form of payment is Venmo, check or cash. It's $34 per night. We were told ahead of time the water has a very sulfuric smell (horrible rotten egg smell) but after a while it would disappear. We let the water run for quite a while but the smell didn't change, so it wasn't pleasant washing dishes. Needless to say, we didn't want to shower, brush teeth or wash our face with that smell. We had full hookup 30amp. Also to note, there is a train track that runs along the campground. We heard the train go by twice and when you're a weary traveler that's something you don't want to hear when you're trying to get some sleep. The was no dumpster on site but one across from the main building so we used that to dump our trash. The plus was it wasn't crowded and the price is nice.
Nov 11, 2024 · Angie ValdezGood park really. Some overgrown trails and dead ends, good bit of deep Gulleys, but really fun and easy to get in. Not very helpful on the phone, and often don't even answer.
May 04, 2025 · Daniel KellyFun and spacious. Not always packed, but great place to ride. Bring your grill and the family and enjoy a day on nature rollin!!
Apr 02, 2021 · Hillary combsGreat wide open park for young kids to learn and enough challenges for adult trail riders. There is a track but it is not well kept and not the true purpose of this park. We stayed overnight at the campsite and they have over 20 sites mix of 50amp full hookups and 30 amp with water and electric. Showers were fine but the water needs to be shocked as it's smells of sulfur. Family had a great time...just bring your own water if camping
