Assateague National Seashore Campground - Spot Bayside B33 Reviews
Camped here on the ocean side one night in early May—it was so beautiful. We had no issues with bugs or horses. Setting up the tent with the wind was a bit of a challenge, but we adjusted with some patience and creativity. If you’re used to easy camping with lots of amenities, you’ll be disappointed, but if you’re looking for more rustic tent camping where you walk a bit, it’s a unique and beautiful experience. My only complaint was the smell in the latrines. It would be much improved if there were signs telling people to leave the lids down.
May 11, 2025 · Kelly PikeWe camped here- we will definitely be back for the scenery and the beach but never again for camping. The horses took over our camp both days so we couldn’t cook anything we brought or relax by our fire. We left a day early because of this. If you have an RV, or don’t plan on sticking around your fire for food, this is the place for you.
Jun 26, 2024 · Shannon EnglishAssateague Island National Campground was one of my best camping experiences thus far.Although it is boondocking (dry camping without water or electric) I was fine with my R-Pod trailer with just running a small generator occasionally to keep my trailer battery topped off.The campground is well thought out with many drive in sites. I stayed in Loop C Bayside. It was just lovely! Many, many beautiful songbirds, raptors, and wild horses EVERYWHERE!Bike rentals are available at the Visitor Center, and there are, also many planned activities and guided nature tours. The beach side is beautiful with miles of pristine beach to walk in. I visited in November, so it was very quiet.I plan to return many, many more times!
Nov 27, 2023 · Esme WestThe camping idea is perfect and 5 stars for it, for the night sky full of stars and the environment.Downside about camping there, campgrounds are some small that you can't even gather around bonfire, electric car chargers only at 2 camps out of 50 some camps...Some camp grounds overgrown with things and trees at some camps that you can't see stars around, not great for stargazing, and that's why I come there because cities don't have it at all...And friendly is a plus...
Sep 13, 2024 · Серёжка КартошкаBe warned: Everything here wants to either eat you, or eat everything you own. Camped a few nights on the Oceanside, not on the dunes but in the cleared brush behind the dunes. The flies and mosquitos were ungodly and relentless, undeterred by even the strongest DEET bug sprays or multiple layers of clothing. They WILL find a way to bite and devour you during all hours of the day and night. I saw multiple families camping on the dunes have their tents blown away or be unable to set them up due to winds. We had a gang of horses try to steal our s’mores that we were actively roasting and eating. We kept all our food stored except for what we were actively using and the horses smelled it from a mile away. During the night raccoons went into the locked table and stole my toiletry bag. I would like to say this place was everything I imagined (I spent years trying to get a reservation here), but it was hellish. I’m an avid camper and prefer to spend my time outdoors, but this place made me question my sanity. The sights and horses were beautiful, but you will not leave unscathed. Better to come during the day and camp some place else.
