7/2/25. Damaged from hurricane, but OPEN. They have all your needs. Advanced reservations preferred. 2 miles away is Biking & hiking at chestnut mtn. Unknown if it’s open yet. There is ingles grocery store and gas station near too.

I agree with the previous reviewer. Completely unprofessional and the owners have portrayed the KOA brand in the most negative light possible. I had a reservation for arrival on June 19 and because I saw the previous review I went to their website, Facebook page, and called them. There is still an old post on their website and Facebook page, and voicemail about how they look forward to welcoming people. I was able to get somebody on the phone who confirmed they are still not open yet because they do not have the authority to do so by the county. This is a preposterous way to run a business where you do not keep people informed and updated, but willingly take their money. And their excuses about giving you a refund if they have to cancel your reservation are completely unacceptable. People have made plans and they are depending on your word and that your yes be your yes and your no be your no. Be truthful and honest and disclose to your patrons that you are not open yet. It should not take this much effort to find that information out. It should be posted on your website along with your Facebook page and be disclosed in your voicemail. I will never be coming back to this campground ever again. If you want a place in the mountains, go to the Boone KOA.

Absolute unprofessionalism. We made a reservation for Asheville East KOA for a Memorial Day weekend night. We made this reservation on April 5 for the weekend of May 23. They accepted our reservation and took our money. They made NO mention of the fact that they were still in the midst of refurbishment after Hurricane Helene and so we had no reason to doubt our reservation. Through omission of any disclousre to the contrary, we were led to believe that they were a 100% operational campground.On May 13, just 10 days before our reservation they sent a notification that they were still awaiting electrical permitting and may have to cancel our reservation. This was the first indication we received that left us with ANY indication that our reservation was not guaranteed. Then, on May 16, just 7 days before our reservation, they actually canceled that reservation and refunded our money without even an apology. All we received was a cancellation/refund from KOA.The one star review is not due to them having issues getting their electric turned on. The one star review is due to the fact that they HAD TO KNOW when we made our reservation that cancellation was a possibility and they provided ZERO warning. Now we are scrambling to find a place to stay on a holiday weekend when campgrounds are absolutely packed full.I would not be writing this one star review had they had the professionalism and courtesy to warn us of the possibility that they may have to cancel upon taking our reservation. Instead, they withheld that information to avoid losing revenue in the slight chance they would complete restoration in time for Memorial Day. Sad to say, the campground is still closed and they have likely canceled every single reservation leaving all campers in a bind.UNPROFESSIONAL, DISCOURTEOUS, and SELFISH of them.

After visiting the Outer Banks, my family had planned to spend one week in Asheville before going to Gulf Shores. Someone called us just two days before we were supposed to go over there and told us they had to cancel our reservation because the campground wasn’t open yet. We were very shocked to hear this as the website leads you to believe they’re open and we had just received a welcome email. We had to try to book something new in Gulf shores at the last minute as all the other campgrounds near Asheville were already booked. It was very unprofessional of them to wait this long to inform us that the campground wasn’t really open yet—the website said it was open back from the flood damage on Memorial Day. If you plan to stay here, double check that it is really open to avoid a headache later.

Please share with us on Facebook as soon as you are back open! Your campground is one of our favorites, and we have been visiting for years. The beautiful scenery, fishing, playing in the creek, watching the wildlife, the staff, the crafts and activities and family dance parties are our favorite memories for our family. We pray for you all the time and hope you can recover. Best family campground in North Carolina !!
