Ash Creek Campground

Campground ★4.0

Adin, CA 96006, USA

This is a hidden jewel for both many forms of recreation. There is camping and fishing as well as swimming areas. The banks are not steep and lined with grass and cow patties so watch your step. I did see some snakes as well. The family really enjoyed the area as we spent an afternoon out here having a picnic. There's plenty of stream to fish and I caught a mix of brown trout and rainbow trout. Please pick up your trash and keep this area accessible for generations to come. - Fishing Paradise California

Ash Creek Campground Introduce

Introduction / Overview

For those in California looking to truly escape the urban hustle and reconnect with nature, Ash Creek Campground is a secluded and rustic haven in the expansive Modoc National Forest. Tucked away near the small town of Adin, this campground is often described by visitors as a "hidden jewel." It offers a peaceful and natural setting for a variety of outdoor pursuits, from camping and hiking to fishing and simply enjoying a quiet picnic with the family. The area is defined by its serene landscape, where open spaces and scattered trees provide a tranquil backdrop for your outdoor adventures. Unlike some of the more developed and crowded campgrounds, Ash Creek offers a more intimate and rugged experience, perfect for those who appreciate the untouched beauty of Northern California's high desert region.

This campground is particularly well-suited for both RV and tent campers who are self-sufficient and enjoy a more primitive style of camping. Its low elevation compared to other sites in the region allows it to open earlier in the season, making it a great choice for a spring or early summer trip. While the amenities are basic, they provide the essentials for a comfortable stay. It’s a place where you can truly unplug, with the only sounds being those of the surrounding nature. The mix of recreational opportunities makes it a versatile destination for different types of adventurers, from avid anglers to families seeking a simple day out. Ash Creek Campground embodies the spirit of California’s remote, natural beauty, inviting you to slow down and savor the moment.

Location and Accessibility

Ash Creek Campground is located at Adin, CA 96006, USA. Its remote location is part of its charm, placing it about 7 miles east of the town of Adin on a dirt road that continues toward Madeline. While this road is not paved, it is generally considered fair, though larger trailers and RVs may find it a bit challenging. Visitors should be prepared for several miles of unpaved travel to reach the site. The remoteness also means that during hunting season, the area can become crowded, with campsites sometimes being used for parking by hunters. This is a point to consider, as finding an available spot can be difficult during peak times, as noted by some past visitors.

The campground is situated at an elevation of approximately 4,800 feet above sea level, which contributes to its earlier opening season compared to higher-elevation sites. Its location within the Modoc National Forest provides a central point for exploring the wider area, including nearby trails and scenic drives. While the amenties within the campground are basic, the nearest services like food and gasoline can be found in the town of Adin, with more extensive services and a hospital located in Alturas. Visitors should plan accordingly, ensuring they have all necessary supplies before making the journey to the campground.
