For Wisconsin families and adventurers looking for a convenient and amenity-rich camping experience, Apple Creek Campground in De Pere offers a popular destination. Situated ideally between the vibrant cities of Green Bay and Appleton, this campground provides a practical base for exploring the region's attractions while offering on-site activities for all ages. Originally established in 1969, Apple Creek Campground (formerly Happy Hollow Campground) has evolved into a family-run establishment focused on creating memorable outdoor moments for its guests. While it aims to provide a fun-filled environment, potential visitors, especially local Wisconsinites, should be aware of its characteristics to ensure it aligns with their camping preferences.
Apple Creek Campground spans 20 acres of wooded land, featuring 155 sites designed for RVs and tents, alongside a selection of rental units including cabins and yurts. The campground's philosophy centers on providing a space where "kids can have fun and parents can rejuvenate." Key amenities like a heated swimming pool, a playground, and a stocked fishing pond (catch and release) are central to its appeal. Reviews often highlight the friendly staff and the ease of check-in, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. However, it's worth noting that due to the popularity and layout, some campsites can be quite close together, and the campground's proximity to I-41 means some road noise can be expected. Despite these aspects, for families seeking a location with readily available activities and convenience to regional attractions, Apple Creek Campground remains a viable option in the Green Bay area.
The campground strives to offer a balance of relaxation and recreation, ensuring there are plenty of options for staying active or simply unwinding. Its strategic location makes it particularly attractive for those attending events in Green Bay or Appleton, or simply looking to explore the local area without extensive travel. Understanding its features, from the variety of sites to the on-site and nearby attractions, helps Wisconsin locals decide if Apple Creek Campground is the right fit for their next outdoor adventure.
Location and Accessibility
Apple Creek Campground is conveniently located at N3831 County Rd U, De Pere, WI 54115, USA. This position places it in Brown County, strategically nestled between the major Wisconsin cities of Green Bay and Appleton. For local residents, its accessibility is a significant draw. The campground is easily reachable from I-41 via Exit 154 (Wrightstown), making it a straightforward drive for campers traveling from various parts of Wisconsin. Green Bay is approximately 13 miles north, and Appleton is about 16 miles south, ensuring quick access to urban amenities.
While the campground offers a wooded setting, its proximity to I-41 means that some highway noise may be noticeable, particularly in certain areas of the park. However, this trade-off provides excellent convenience for accessing local attractions. For Wisconsin sports fans, Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers, is just a short drive away, making Apple Creek Campground a popular choice during game seasons. Beyond sports, campers have easy access to the National Railroad Museum, the Houdini Museum in Appleton, and various dining, shopping, and entertainment options in both Green Bay and Appleton. Despite ongoing road construction on I-41 at times, direct access to and from the highway remains a key advantage. The campground is split into two sections, an upper and lower area, connected by a walking bridge over Apple Creek. This allows some sites, particularly those on the "hill," to be quieter and more secluded from the central activity areas, offering varying levels of peace within the park. This balance of natural setting and urban proximity makes Apple Creek Campground a practical and accessible choice for many Wisconsin families.

Apple Creek Campground Reviews
This was super convenient for where my husband was working, but if you're looking for something quiet(away from traffic) and with lots to do for teens/adults this isn't really the place. The kids play area could really use some tlc. The campsites are super close together, which would be the number 1 reason why I wouldn't camp here for fun. The pool is fun for little kids.
Jun 29, 2025 · Kk JesuswantsthebrokenWe stayed here recently for a week-end because we had kid's sports in the area. Not the worst campground I stayed at, but close.First of all, this is not the campgrounds fault, but I-41 is in the middle of being rebuilt and they are widening out all the overpasses so when you're heading North it is extremely difficult to find an exit that you can cross to get to the West side of the highway.Sites are small and very close to each other. We were lucky that there was no one next to us so we had some room. The weather was in the 90's when we were there so Saturday morning I went to buy a bag of ice. They have a large capacity ice freezer by the store but the guy at the counter informed me that they were out of ice. He said the delivery guy should've been there but didn't show up. You would think this would be a priority for the campground to make sure that they had ice. I'm guessing that the guy didn't show up because they haven't paid their bill? He suggested that I run up to the Kwik Trip. I'm thinking that he maybe should run up to the KT and stock up the freezer. We were gone for most of the day, but when we got back, a dip in the pool was in order. My son and I headed up there and my eyes started burning from the chlorine before we even jumped in. There were quite the assortment of people at the pool. I got a whiff of pot and turn and say a dad taking a pull off a big Sherlock Holmes pipe and then handing it off to his wife/ girlfriend and jumping back in the pool. I don't care if people smoke weed, but it is still illegal in Wisconsin and doing it wide open around a pool full of kids in unacceptable. We stayed relatively close to the office, but my wife took our dog for a walk further back in the park and when she returned she told our kids that they were not allowed to go out in the loop. Pretty sketchy area back there. It seemed pretty obvious that there are some unsavory activities taking place there. I would not recommend it and it wasn't my first choice. This was like a white trash paradise.
Jun 26, 2025 · Kenny VossWe stayed here on June 23rd for 1 night with our mother in law.Pros:they had affordable firewood.Cons:I saw the low ratings and booked anyhow. We got there and were checked in by a nice lady, without any issues. I got site 26, mother in law got 25. When we plugged in, her site showed bad wiring (no ground). She went in and talked to the front desk, who had changed and was now a guy. (Around 2:30) He refused to move her citing “we’re full tonight”. ( I immediately checked online, they had numerous sites, including 28 available, he was not honest) He also said he was not allowed to move her until the “maintenance verified it was bad.” He recommended she plug in anyhow because “he does it all the time with his”. (Seems like awful advice from a campground who doesn’t want to assume liability). I went in and tried to talk to him again, he gave me the same advice. I explained that my mother in law is an electrician, and doesn’t feel comfortable. I also explained that I am a firefighter, and faulty electricity is not my friend. He snarkily said “I have an rv so I know all this stuff too, it’s fine”. He refused to move her until maintenance arrived. I tried to explain we had to be hooked up so we could leave for a Lambeau tour we had scheduled, he didn’t care .Fast forward and maintenance came, Roger. Roger was super awesome and verified the site was bad. I asked him to tell the front desk so we could move and he seemed confused. “They don’t need my permission to move you, they should have already.” He also informed us someone had driven over the pedestal previously. I walked in and told the front desk guy, who started arguing with me. I cut him off and told him we were moving her to site 28 which we verified was good. Since he promised us we could after maintenance checked. He seemed to bothered to get off his phone to care.An hour later, they were checking someone into 25 again, we warned them.Bathroom showers also disgusting, and I had to pay quarters to use them.Overall, never stay! Find a truck stop or drive on. They were not focused on customer service in the slightest, and wouldn’t even help when you did the work to find another site
Jun 30, 2025 · Benjamin WahlWe did an overnighter here traveling west from the UP. Its an older park with what appears to be a lot of full time residents or seasonal sites. We were in the lower area which is the older part so perhaps that impacted our impression. W/P only for a not so affordable nightly rate. They do have a nice dog park trail along the creek so that was a nice escape. The upper area is better suited for overnight stays with pull thrus and although its closer to the frewway I wish we had stayed up there.
Jun 23, 2025 · Dave MooreI’d stay here again, nice pit stop on our way from Illinois to Michigan with a pool and kids play area. You can hear the road but to be expected. Great WiFi
