Antelope Campground

Boise, ID 83702, USA

4.0
I love this campground it’s the best one for Sage Hen! Very dog and family friendly! Beautiful private camp sites and the lake is refreshing and stunning. There is a trail you can go on either by bike or walking that goes around the entire lake. There’s also a few more trails near the campground. Bathrooms were really clean and didn’t smell too bad. The only thing I would have liked was more beachy spots to swim but there is a boat dock you can launch from. No motorized watercraft allowed. We will return… - Jill Devereaux (Buffy)

Idaho is celebrated for its vast and diverse landscapes, providing endless possibilities for outdoor pursuits. Among the many incredible destinations, Antelope Campground stands out as a prime choice for those seeking a tranquil lakeside escape that caters to both relaxation and adventure. This article will guide you through what makes Antelope Campground a local favorite, from its beautiful setting and accessible features to the amenities that ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay for everyone.

Imagine waking up to the fresh mountain air, with the shimmering waters of Sage Hen Reservoir just steps away. Picture spending your days exploring scenic trails, enjoying refreshing dips in the lake, and your evenings gathered around a campfire under a star-filled Idaho sky. Antelope Campground delivers on this idyllic vision. Its commitment to being "very dog and family friendly" resonates deeply with locals, fostering a welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels at home in nature. While some sites might be closer together and occasionally a bit lively at night, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many vowing, "We will return…"

Antelope Campground is strategically located on the shores of the scenic Sage Hen Reservoir, within the vast expanse of the Boise National Forest. Its official address is listed as Boise, ID 83702, USA, although it is situated northeast of Boise, closer to the towns of Ola and Emmett. Specifically, the campground is perched at an elevation of approximately 5,031 feet, offering crisp mountain air and a distinct escape from the city bustle.

Access to Antelope Campground typically involves driving on Forest Service roads after leaving paved state highways. From Horseshoe Bend, Idaho, you would take State Highway 52, then turn onto Sweet/Ola Highway, traveling through Ola before connecting to Forest Service Roads that lead to Sage Hen Reservoir. While the roads leading to the reservoir are sometimes noted as dusty (common for forest roads in Idaho), the journey itself is part of the experience, winding through beautiful forested terrain.

The campground's proximity to Sage Hen Reservoir is its greatest asset, providing direct water access for various activities. While not all spots offer direct "beachy spots to swim," there is a convenient "boat dock you can launch from." It's important to note a key regulation for the reservoir: "No motorized watercraft allowed." This makes Sage Hen Reservoir a peaceful haven for non-motorized activities like canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing from smaller, electric-motor boats. This restriction contributes significantly to the tranquil atmosphere that campers love. The various nearby trails further enhance its accessibility, allowing for exploration right from your campsite.
