Amelia Family Campground Introduce
The Amelia Family Campground in Amelia Court House, VA, provides a traditional, family-oriented camping experience that has been serving the Central Virginia community since 1979. Located at 9720 Military Rd, this campground is a well-established destination designed to offer a balance of essential modern amenities and a peaceful, rural setting. It caters primarily to RV enthusiasts and tent campers who are looking for a straightforward, friendly environment just a short drive from the greater Richmond area.
Offering approximately 80 sites, including numerous full hookup options and accommodating long-term stays, the facility positions itself as a practical and accessible choice for all types of campers. Beyond the functional RV hookups and laundry facilities, the campground is noted for its recreational features—such as a swimming pool and a playground—which solidify its reputation as a genuinely family-friendly destination. It aims to be a relaxing retreat away from the daily hustle, embracing a clean, welcoming, and community-focused atmosphere.
It is important for prospective visitors to be aware of the campground's history and to practice due diligence. While many appreciate the family ownership and quiet location, a public review has raised severe health and safety concerns related to septic and sewage issues that allegedly led to resident evacuations and illness. The official information and reviews generally highlight updated water and electric utilities and helpful staff. We strongly advise all Virginia residents considering a stay to contact the campground management directly, or the Amelia County Health Department, to inquire about the current status and resolution of any past health inspection issues before booking. This is crucial to ensure a safe and healthy stay for your family.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Horrible campground. Water was like smelly swamp water and we were on a 6mo road trip and never once got sick. Here, in just 2 weeks we had the FLU, a COLD, AND a STOMACH BUG!!! constantly feeling unwell and smelled horrible after a shower and gagged when I brushed my teeth. 2 days before I asked my husband to GET US OUT OF THERE we found out they were evacuating like 80 of the "permanent residents" because WAY BACK IN MARCH they had failed the health inspection regarding their SEWAGE AND SEPTIC!!!!! They left everyone there while knowing that and let US come in while knowing that!!! These people do NOT care about the people in their campground! They just want $$$ MONEY MONEY MONEY. Horrible broken dangerous nasty playground and just nasty smelly everything. I hope they get shut down!
May 14 · ALi HuttnerCame to visit my dad while his RV was on site here. They have a nice fenced in in-ground pool, a fully functional old school play ground with a real teeter tater, swing set, and a mary go around. Each site has its own fire pit too.
July 13 · Samantha ReedSo quiet and calm well worth the night for sure! Showers clean restrooms clean and no complaints when it comes to the surrounding campers... yeah great place thank you!
February 02 · Richie lee MedeirosThis is the best experience we have had in 2 years at a campground! We travel all over for work, so we have lots of experience with campgrounds. Ok so the "rooms" get 5 stars because it's your own RV lol. But the family and friends that run it are fantastic people. They are so friendly and so welcoming. The campground is very safe with lots of children around, and I felt extremely comfortable letting my daughter run and play. The atmosphere is very relaxing and quiet. I can't recommend this place enough. If we end up going back to that area for work, we will be returning to Amelia Family Campground without even looking for anywhere else.
February 14 · Pam HannaWhat a wonderful weekend!! Camping at it's best! Sites are clean with plenty of space to accommodate a larger setup if needed.Restrooms and showers are clean and the water was actually HOT!! Huge plus considering how cheap the whole trip was for everything.3 adults & 5 childrenFishing was so fun and the trails were properly maintained. The people were very informative and sincere about their help.My fiance and I WILL be coming back very soon. Alone this time.
