Alto Pit OHV Introduce
Hello, Arizona adventurers and off-road enthusiasts! Are you looking for a camping experience that combines a serene natural setting with the thrill of motorized adventure? Alto Pit OHV offers a unique blend of these two worlds. Located near Prescott in the beautiful Prescott National Forest, this campground and recreation area is a premier destination for those who enjoy off-highway vehicles (OHV). With its designated riding areas and a variety of trails, it's a fantastic spot for both seasoned riders and beginners learning the ropes.
Alto Pit OHV is not your typical quiet campground; it’s a place of activity and excitement. It was once an active gravel pit, and now it's exclusively used for motorized off-road travel. This provides a truly unique landscape that draws a specific crowd. The campground is situated at the base of Granite Mountain, offering a beautiful blend of desert and forest landscapes that can make you feel like you're in a different state altogether. It's an excellent location for families with children who are into off-roading, as it offers beginner-friendly areas and trails. While there may be some noise during the day from the OHVs, many visitors find that it quiets down in the evenings, allowing for a peaceful night under the stars.
Alto Pit OHV is conveniently located at 2971 Willow Creek Rd, Prescott, AZ 86301, USA. Its proximity to the city of Prescott is a major advantage, as it provides easy access to groceries, gas, and other supplies. This makes it a perfect weekend getaway for residents of the greater Prescott area, as well as those traveling from Phoenix and other parts of Arizona. The campground is situated at a high elevation of 6,200 feet, which offers a welcome escape from the intense Arizona heat during the summer months.
The accessibility of the area is well-regarded. The campground has a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, which is a great feature. The on-site parking at each of the campsites, some of which are pull-through, makes it easy for both tents and RVs to set up. While the campground is in a somewhat rugged landscape, the convenience of the location and the on-site parking make it an appealing and functional spot for a variety of campers.
Public Restrooms: The campground has public restrooms, which are a basic but necessary amenity. However, it's important to note that some customer reviews have expressed dissatisfaction with the cleanliness and condition of the bathrooms, with some describing them as very dirty. This is a point to consider when planning your stay. There are no showers or running water available.
Barbecue Grills and Picnic Tables: Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and a barbecue grill, providing a designated space for outdoor meals and cooking. The sites also have fire rings, allowing for a cozy campfire in the evenings (when fire restrictions allow).
Tent Sites: The campground is suitable for tent camping, with designated areas for pitching tents. This makes it a versatile option for different types of campers, from individuals to families.
On-site Parking: Convenient on-site parking is available at each campsite. Some sites are pull-through, making them ideal for larger vehicles and RVs.
Camping Fee: There is a fee for camping at Alto Pit OHV. This fee helps with the maintenance and upkeep of the area. It is important to have the correct amount in cash, as it is a self-service pay station. Day-use visitors also have a fee, which is waived on Wednesdays.
OHV and Dirt Bike Riding: Alto Pit OHV is a haven for off-road enthusiasts. The area boasts a 20-mile off-highway trail system, with a variety of trails suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to experts. There is also a "Tot Lot" and practice area for kids and new riders, providing a safe and controlled environment for them to learn.
Good for Kids: The campground is explicitly noted as being "good for kids." The dedicated children's areas and beginner trails make it an excellent spot for families to introduce their kids to the world of off-roading in a safe way. The picnic areas also provide a nice place for families to gather and relax.
Dogs Allowed: This is a pet-friendly campground, so you can bring your canine companions along for the adventure. It's a great way to ensure that the whole family, including your furry friends, can enjoy the outdoors together.
Beautiful Scenery: Despite the off-road focus, the campground is surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Prescott National Forest and Granite Mountain. Visitors have praised the scenery and the "exotic look" of the area with its "choppy groves of tall pines." The starry nights are also noted as being breathtaking, perfect for stargazing.
Proximity to Prescott: The campground is conveniently located just a short drive from Prescott. This allows campers to easily access supplies, restaurants, and other amenities, providing a perfect balance of a rustic outdoor experience with the convenience of a nearby town.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Great place for beginners who are learning to ride on motorcycles. Practice area, and beginners trails are a peice of mind. Note some trails are more advanced so scouting out first may be a better option.
June 22 · Marcus JonesStayed here over Father’s Day weekend. The lots are decently sized, the ATV’s all seemed respectful. However, the bathrooms were by far the absolute worst I’ve ever seen at a camp ground ever. Any time you opened the door there were no less than 200 flies that would fly out the door. Anytime you’d try to your business, literally flies everywhere. We never once saw the camp host come by to clean the restrooms like we see at other campgrounds in the state. Overall, I wouldn’t stay here again. When our entire party would have rather gone out in the woods than step foot in those bathrooms.
June 16 · Scot PerkinsMy son and I camped over spring break. It was cold but awesome. We had a great time riding and playing in a little snow. The only downside was the camp ground host. On our last day. I packed everything up. My son wanted to go on one last ride. So, on our way out of the camping area to the trails. The host waves me over. He tells me I can't park in my camp site. He said it wasn't for "day use." I explained that I wasn't "day use" and that I had been camping there for the last 2 days. He said I didn't pay, and I didn't have the tag on my mirror. I then told him I reserved the spot online. Then, He accused my son and I of speeding and doing laps around the campground. An outright lie. Other than that, we had a great time. We will go back and ride again.
June 22 · harry griffinLove this place! Great spot for all ages, kid track is solid, all the trails are fun, and the pit itself is a good time and place to play around. Some fun stuff to hike around....find our fort if you can...just don't wreck it, add to it! Enjoy AZ and nature errbodys. Neature walks are pretty neat.
August 19 · Drew GodfredsenHad an amazing time here, they have a true beginner's track, an intermediate trail and the pit and trails leading off of it for more experienced riders, the pit leads to more trails and those were good for a quad, the price is $5 for the day which isn't bad, I had alot of fun and made alot of memories with 2 of my kids, I would definently recommend this place to go and hang out for a day or even weekend camping!
