Decent campsites on a beautiful section of the Rogue. Great water above and below for begining and intermediate boaters. I’ve been to prettier campsites, but never had kinder , more engaging camp hosts. Claudia went above and beyond. I would go as far as to say I was inspired by this lovely lady. The authentic and insightful life, this camp host is leading gives me hope that I can break free of the rigmarole of my own tedious existence and embrace my true passions of the outdoors and the water. Good stuff Claudia! Keep that up! - Garth Peek

Location and Accessibility

Almeda County Park is located at 14800 Merlin-Galice Rd, Merlin, OR 97532, USA. This address places it deep in the heart of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, directly on the banks of the famous Rogue River. Despite its seemingly remote setting, the park is surprisingly accessible.

To reach Almeda County Park, typically you would take I-5 North or South to Exit 61, then travel under the freeway to Merlin Galice Road. The park entrance is approximately 18 miles down Merlin Galice Road on the right. While the campground is "deep in the forest," it's just a few miles from Highway 5, making access not too tricky. The nearest town for supplies and services is Grants Pass, which is off Highway 5, and from there you can easily reach larger towns like Medford to the south.

The roads leading to and within the park are generally well-maintained, accommodating various vehicle types, including RVs. The park is described as a "primitive woodland RV camping area," and while it can cater to RV campers up to 80-feet long with pull-thru sites available, it’s important to note its primitive nature. Visitors should be aware that cell service at this location is typically non-existent, offering a genuine opportunity to disconnect and immerse oneself in nature. This encourages a true escape from daily digital life, aligning with what many locals seek in an outdoor retreat.

Services Offered

Almeda County Park provides a comfortable, semi-primitive camping experience with essential amenities designed to enhance your stay by the river:

  • Campsites: The campground offers just under 40 RV campsites, which are also suitable for tent camping. All sites are tucked away under the canopy of trees on the banks of the Rogue River. Sites generally include a picnic table and a fire ring for outdoor cooking and socializing. Some sites are pull-through, and the park can accommodate large RVs up to 80 feet.
  • No Hookups: It is crucial for visitors to note that Almeda County Park is a primitive woodland RV camping area with no hookups of any kind (no electric, water, or sewer hookups at individual sites). Campers will need to ensure their RV water tanks are full before arriving.
  • Potable Water: While there are no individual site hookups, plenty of drinking water faucets are available throughout the campground for hand washing and dish cleaning. However, water is described as "very limited due to a low-flow well," and it's recommended not to use these spigots to fill RV tanks.
  • Vault Toilets: The park features restrooms with vault toilets, which are generally kept clean and well-stocked with toilet paper. There are no showers available.
  • Boat Ramp: A significant amenity is the boat ramp that offers direct access straight into the Rogue River. This is perfect for those bringing their own equipment for boating, kayaking, or rafting.
  • Firewood and Ice: Firewood and ice are available for a small charge on-site, typically from the camp host, with cash only accepted for these purchases. Campfire policies may vary based on local regulations and current fire conditions, so it's advisable to check upon arrival.
  • Pet-Friendly: Almeda County Park is a dog-friendly campground, allowing pets to accompany their families, provided they are kept on a leash at all times.
  • Camp Host: The park benefits greatly from having a camp host on site. Reviews consistently praise the hosts for being "kinder" and "more engaging," providing assistance and enhancing the overall camping experience.

  • Direct Rogue River Access: The prime highlight is its location directly on the Rogue River, offering beautiful scenery and immediate access for various water activities. It's a favorite launching point for boaters and rafters.
