Akeley City Park & Campground Reviews
What a wonderful surprise! This is a fantastic camping location, right on the Heartland Cycling Trail. We cycled to Walker and Park Rapids right from our campsite. All the campsites have mature pine trees and lakeshore. Many have docks but there’s also a large fishing pier. There’s a nice sandy beach and playground. The campground was quiet and sunsets were beautiful. The manager lives on site and is very friendly. They keep the restrooms, showers and public areas clean at all times. We had severe weather with a lot of rainfall that washed out some areas of the dirt roads but they were repaired the next morning. Excellent experience!
Jun 20, 2025 · Claire GraupmannKerri, the campground manger, is the who/what that makes this place great. We had a campsite right in the lake with a dock and a wonderful view of the sunset across the lake each evening. Kerri consistently went out of her way to ensure we were happy there from accommodating a request for extension of our reservation to seeing that we would not have to shift campsites to do that. She was wonderful in apprising all about the city leash lawn for dogs to reduce dog fights and help campers avoid being ticketed by the city for violations as the place was regularly patrolled. The campground campsites are clean, the showers are large, clean and have plenty of hot water, but have no heating or cooling. Kerri daily checked on campers present to ensure a very positive experience for their stay. We will definitely be back!
Oct 13, 2024 · John WyckoffWhat a place! This campground is absolutely beautiful with sites running the length of the shoreline. The showers were fantastic. Each shower room was sizable and also included a toilet and sink. Kerri is the manager of the facility. She was so kind and helpful I enjoyed meeting her and chatting for a bit. She keeps that place super clean and stocked.
Aug 28, 2024 · Robert RuppWe encountered Akeley on a road trip, and we're greeted by our camp host Kerri, who was basically the most amazing and best camp host in the entire world. We camp a LOT, and I've met many, many hosts, and by far, she is the most helpful host ever. From the time we arrived, she made sure we had everything we needed and went out of her way to ensure that we were comfortable. Apart from that, when our vehicle battery died, Kerri was there with a jump starter. The campsite is also awesome, the location is great and the facilities are clean and spotless (also thanks to Kerri). We truly enjoyed the firepit by the water as we star gazed. Our visit was only one night, unfortunately, so we definitely plan on returning for a longer stay to enjoy the waterfront activities and beautiful nature around. We highly recommend this campsite. (Photo of us with Kerri shared with permission). P.S. we felt extra safe at this camp.
May 25, 2024 · Antony Shan PeirisThis campground is the absolute BEST!! The hosts Eric and Keri go above and beyond to help you to have a great time! Anything you need or any help they at there! We needed help on our site and Reid from the city came to help out and was the nicest guy and very helpful. We appreciate you all! The grounds are well kept and the showers and bathrooms are clean! It is so neat to have all the sites right on the waterfront. There is also a beach right there with a picnic ground. Thank you for a great time!Mark and Deanna
