Location and Accessibility
Airport Flat Campground is nestled in the scenic region of Pollock Pines, CA 95726, USA, within a truly natural setting that promises an authentic outdoor experience. Its location provides a sense of remoteness, yet it remains surprisingly accessible for many California residents, particularly those in Northern California. While described by some as "rugged," the primary road leading directly to the campground is paved, ensuring that a wide range of vehicles, including standard cars, can reach the site without difficulty. This makes it an attainable destination for various campers, not just those with high-clearance or off-road vehicles.
Upon entering the campground, visitors will find gravel paths leading to each individual campsite, further confirming its accessibility. Despite its rustic character, the fact that "any and all vehicles can easily access this campground" is a significant advantage, removing a common barrier for many who wish to explore less-developed camping areas. While the area might feel secluded, it's part of a broader network of natural landscapes that California locals frequent for outdoor activities. Its position near popular off-roading areas, such as the famous Rubicon Trail, also means that while it offers tranquility, there can be some traffic from enthusiasts exploring the wider region. This balance of seclusion and accessibility makes Airport Flat Campground an intriguing option for Californians looking for a peaceful retreat that's still within reach.

Airport Flat Campground Reviews
A rugged campground that is not easy to get to. It does have bear lockers and fire pits. There's a small stream that was nice to wade and relax in the cool water. We saw a couple of water snakes and other critters as well as a good amount of traffic from people who appeared to be camping here and then wheeling the Rubicon.

Any and all vehicles can easily access this campground.Camping is free, and availability is first come first serve. There are 15 individual campsites and what appears to be a group campsite which is currently unavailable due to Covid-19.I spent 2 nights at airport flats campground in the middle of August 2020. There was plenty of availability but that could be due to the pandemic and days of the week I stayed here. The weather was warm during the day, low 90's, and maybe 60 at night. This was when surrounding areas were will past the 100's and some breaking 110. There is a small stream that runs near the campground but it was only large enough to wade in at this time. The area is beautiful with large trees all around but there aren't any marked hiking trails so adventure at your own risk. My stay was quiet and peaceful. Make sure to pack in water and a portable gas grill as campfires may be prohibited depending on conditions.
