For Maryland locals, particularly those seeking a convenient base camp for exploring the rich history and vibrant culture of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC in Lothian, MD, presents itself as an option for a diverse range of stays. While its name suggests a resort-style experience, it's essential for prospective campers to manage expectations and understand its unique characteristics. Located strategically to provide access to both natural surroundings and urban attractions, this campground caters to those looking for extended stays, RV rentals, and a variety of lodging options.
It's designed to offer a blend of outdoor living with proximity to the nation's capital, allowing Marylanders to immerse themselves in the region's wonders. The resort aims to be a practical choice for individuals, families, and long-term guests who prioritize location for access to Washington D.C.'s iconic landmarks, museums, and diverse entertainment options. While recent customer feedback has highlighted areas needing improvement, the underlying concept of a convenient and versatile camping hub near a major metropolitan area remains a key aspect of its appeal for those planning their adventures in the Capital Region.
Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC is situated at 5381 Sands Rd, Lothian, MD 20711, USA. Lothian is a community located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, positioning the campground within the broader Washington D.C. metropolitan area. This location is a key selling point, as it provides campers with a convenient base to explore not only the natural beauty of Southern Maryland but also the numerous attractions of the nation's capital.
For Maryland locals, accessing the campground is generally straightforward. From Annapolis, the state capital, it's a relatively short drive south. From Baltimore, the route typically involves I-97 South, transitioning onto state routes that lead towards Lothian. For those coming from other parts of Maryland, such as Frederick or the Eastern Shore, access would involve major state highways and interstates like US-50 or I-95, connecting to the network of roads leading to Anne Arundel County.
The resort emphasizes its strategic proximity to major roadways and public transportation, aiming to ensure easy access to Washington D.C.'s famous landmarks, monuments, and museums. While the campground is tucked away in a more rural setting, this balance allows for a peaceful camping environment while maintaining connectivity to urban centers. However, as noted in some reviews, visitors should be aware that internal roads within the campground may have potholes, and some campsites might be tight, requiring careful maneuvering, especially for larger RVs. Despite these navigational considerations within the park, its external accessibility makes it a practical choice for Marylanders looking to combine a camping experience with city excursions.

Tent Sites: Both primitive no-hookup sites and tent sites with water and electric hookups may be available for traditional tent campers.

Gated Security: The resort often advertises gated security for added peace of mind, though recent reviews indicate this feature may not always be operational.
Wi-Fi: High-speed Wi-Fi is advertised, particularly for full hookup campsites and cabin rentals, important for connectivity.
It is important for guests to verify the current availability and operational status of all services directly with the resort prior to booking, especially considering recent customer feedback.
Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC, despite recent challenges, highlights several features designed to enhance the camping experience and leverage its strategic location for Maryland locals:
Proximity to Washington D.C.: This is arguably the top highlight. The resort is positioned to serve as a convenient "base camp" for exploring the nation's capital. Campers can access iconic landmarks, monuments, museums, and the vibrant culture of D.C. relatively easily via major roadways.
Swimming Pool: A swimming pool is a key recreational feature, providing a place for guests to cool off and relax, particularly during warmer months. While recent reviews noted issues with cleanliness, it remains a central amenity for many campers.
Playground: For families with children, a playground offers a dedicated space for kids to play and burn off energy, contributing to a family-friendly atmosphere.
Dog Park: The presence of a dedicated dog park is a significant highlight for pet owners, allowing furry friends a place to exercise and socialize. This amenity makes the resort more appealing to the growing number of campers who travel with their pets.
Recreation Hall / Game Room: While customer reviews indicate a lack of functional equipment (e.g., no balls or sticks for the pool table), the presence of a recreation hall or game room suggests an intended space for indoor activities and gatherings.
Nature Trail: A pleasant nature trail is available for walks, particularly appealing for pet owners or those looking for a quiet stroll through natural surroundings without leaving the campground property.
Extended Stay Options: The resort prominently offers extended stay campsites and furnished rental units. This is a crucial feature for those undertaking long-term projects, temporary assignments, or simply seeking a seasonal home base, especially within the expensive D.C. metropolitan housing market.
Friendly Staff (Specific Mentions): Despite overall negative feedback on facilities, at least one review specifically highlighted "Sheron in the office was fantastic and very nice," suggesting that individual staff members provide positive interactions, which can significantly enhance a visitor's experience.
These features, when fully operational and well-maintained, aim to provide a comprehensive camping and recreational experience, particularly for those using the location to access the D.C. area.
Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC offers several specific "promotions" and "special offers," particularly geared towards extended stays and certain demographics, which can be valuable for Maryland locals considering this resort.
Referral Program: The resort actively promotes a referral program. Guests can "Earn $100 off your first three months for every new guest you refer." This is a significant incentive for existing campers to spread the word, potentially leading to substantial savings for long-term residents.
Military Discount: Active-duty military personnel are offered a "Military Discount: $50/month." This is a commendable offer that directly benefits service members and their families, making extended stays more affordable in the region.
Extended Stay Packages: While not a "discount" per se, the resort's strong emphasis on "Extended Stays" with options for full hookup RV sites and fully furnished rental units (cabins and RV rentals) implicitly offers a better value compared to daily or weekly rates for long-term needs. These packages are tailored for those seeking flexible housing solutions near Washington D.C.
Inclusion of Amenities (when fully functional): While recent reviews point to issues, the advertised inclusion of amenities like a swimming pool, dog park, laundry facilities, and streaming-quality Wi-Fi in the stay (rather than as separate charges) represents an inherent value offer, assuming these facilities are operational and well-maintained.
It is highly recommended that Maryland locals interested in these offers contact the resort directly via phone or visit their official website (specifically the "Extended Stays" section if that's their interest) to confirm the current terms and availability of these promotions. Given the feedback on the general condition of the resort, it's prudent to clarify what services and amenities are fully operational before committing to a stay, especially for longer durations where these offers become most significant.

For Maryland locals, Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC, despite its mixed reviews, holds a specific suitability, particularly for those prioritizing location and flexible stay options over traditional resort-level amenities. It serves as a practical solution for a distinct set of needs within the local community.
Firstly, its prime location in Lothian, MD, offers unparalleled accessibility to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. For Marylanders planning day trips to the capital's museums, monuments, and cultural attractions, or those needing a temporary base for work or family visits in the region, this campground provides a convenient and often more affordable alternative to hotels. This strategic positioning is its most compelling feature, allowing locals to leverage their proximity to a world-class urban center while still having a dedicated space for their RV or a rental cabin.
Secondly, the variety of site types, including numerous full hookup RV sites and diverse cabin rentals, caters to a broad spectrum of campers and long-term residents. The emphasis on extended stays, coupled with specific military and referral discounts, makes it particularly suitable for individuals or families requiring flexible housing solutions for months at a time. This niche offering is highly valuable in a region with high housing costs, providing a practical "home away from home" for commuters, contractors, or those transitioning between residences.
While recent customer feedback indicates that the resort may not always live up to its "resort" moniker in terms of pristine conditions and extensive amenities, its core function as an accessible camping and temporary living solution near D.C. remains. For Marylanders whose primary concern is proximity to the nation's capital and the flexibility of various lodging options, Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC continues to be a viable choice. It requires prospective visitors to manage expectations and ideally confirm current conditions, but for its specific utility as a well-located base camp, it serves a clear purpose for the local community.

Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC Reviews
This campground is far from a resort. We have camped at many other adventure bound resorts and none of them were like this. Sheron in the office was fantastic and very nice. The rest of the campground was just awful. The campsites flood so you’re stuck inside unless you want to step in 6 inches of water when it rains. Pot holes all over the campground, low branches/trees around the already tight campsites. There’s not just seasonal but residential sites in there in between the vacation sites and they’re not taken care of at all. There’s pallets, garbage, wood, appliances, tools, literally crap everywhere all over. The sites are so tight you couldn’t even have a fire without it setting your camper or the one next to you on fire. The office was closed because someone apparently drove through it, so no camp store, no ice cream, the pool was pretty green when we checked in but adjusted over the weekend. The front gate was also broken and just left wide open. My parents rented a cabin and they had roaches, and smelled awful and made all clothing and fabric reek too. There was a pool table in the rec center but no balls or sticks to play… literally zero amenities at this campground. I don’t recommend. I’d stay elsewhere, this campground needs some help, tlc and enforced rules for crap all over campsites. Looks like a trailer park.
May 28, 2025 · Ashley SAdventure Bound DC in Lothian Maryland…Just got home from the absolute worst campground I have ever been to. My wife and I brought our 37 foot travel trailer there and the site was so tight I barely could get into my pull through site. The campsites were so tight and close together didn’t even have room to set up chairs and sit out and relax. Also could not safely have a fire in the firpit because it would be too close and to the camper next to us or our own. Not to mention the fire pit was full of trash when we got there. Pot holes throughout the entire campground. No camp store, zero amenities except for a dirty pool. Keep in mind this called a “Camping Resort” a lot of old dirty beat up campers throughout the camp ground. My in-laws rented the “deluxe cabin” which smelled awful inside and was very dusty. We were more than unhappy with just about every aspect of this campground. I can’t stress enough to not go here under any circumstances. Better off at a Walmart parking lot. This place stinks.
May 26, 2025 · Yobuck4x4Just no. This place is run down! It’s mostly a trailer park for locals with a few spots for those passing through. The sites are so close you can shake your neighbors hand out the window. The bathroom/showers are disgusting. Did not see one employee other than at check in. The price should be half of what it is for the quality of the place. On the positive side, one one staff member we saw at check in was nice. Just keep driving.
Apr 06, 2025 · JamieGod: Staff is friendly and easy to get along with, bath house (3 individual rooms with toilet, sink and shower) stays pretty clean. Veterans discount.Bad: low overhanging branches that will scratch your truck/rv; RIDICULOUS potholes. Simple math says this place brings in over $200k/month before expenses. There's no reason not to get some asphalt laid. The rv spots on the hill are tight to get into and they aren't remotely level.
Mar 29, 2025 · Daniel woodPlace went to the crapper after Duncan’s sold. Went one time after the sale. I’d never return. What a sad way to go. Sell to some corporation who only cares about the dollar. What was once an amazing weekend get away is no more. I wouldn’t waste a penny on these corporate money hungry goons.
