Youngstown ARS FamCamp is strategically located at 16-000003, Vienna, OH 44473, USA, situated on the grounds of the Youngstown Air Reserve Station. Vienna is a quiet township in Trumbull County, Ohio, offering a peaceful and secure environment for visitors. Its placement on an active military installation provides an added layer of security, with courteous gate security forces ensuring a safe stay. While the address is specific to the base, its proximity to Youngstown, approximately 11 miles north, and Warren, about 10 miles east, offers convenient access to urban amenities. This means residents can enjoy the tranquility of the FamCamp while still being within a reasonable driving distance of shopping centers, diverse dining options, and local attractions in the greater Mahoning Valley area. Being attached to the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport also means you might catch glimpses of C-130s taking off, a unique and often quiet experience given the distance from the campground. The combination of a secure military base environment and accessibility to civilian resources makes this FamCamp an excellent base for exploring Northeast Ohio or simply enjoying a peaceful retreat.
Youngstown ARS FamCamp is dedicated to providing essential services that cater to the needs of RV travelers, ensuring a comfortable and functional stay. Based on reviews and common FamCamp offerings, you can generally expect the following services:
- RV Sites with Full Hook-ups: The park offers 15 sites, with 5 being pull-through and featuring full hook-ups (FHU), including 30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer connections. The remaining sites are 30 amp electric/water only. Recent upgrades include concrete patios and sewer additions to formerly water/electric-only sites, making the majority of sites FHU.
- Clean Bathhouse Facilities: Residents consistently praise the "Very clean Fieldhouse (Bathroom and showers)," which is a significant amenity for RVers, especially those without full internal facilities. Hot water availability has been a temporary issue at times but is typically addressed.
- Dump Station: A dedicated dump station is provided for guest convenience, ensuring proper waste disposal.
- On-Base Security: As a military installation FamCamp, visitors benefit from the enhanced security provided by the base's security force, ensuring a safe and secure environment.
- Online Rent Payment: While not explicitly stated, military campgrounds often offer convenient payment methods for lot rent.
- Pet-Friendly Environment: Pets are welcome with standard leash and clean-up rules. There's even a "big field to play with your dogs," and "plenty of sidewalks" for walks around the base.
- Year-Round Operation: Unlike many other local campgrounds that close for the season, Youngstown ARS FamCamp is "Open all year," making it a reliable option regardless of the time of year.
Youngstown ARS FamCamp boasts several key features and highlights that make it a truly appealing choice for eligible travelers, as consistently noted by past visitors:
- Exceptional Affordability: A recurring theme in reviews is the unbeatable price, described as "You can't beat the price" and "Best value I've seen in a long time for a military campground." This makes it an incredibly cost-effective option for RV stays.
- Surprisingly Quiet Atmosphere: Despite its location on an Air Reserve Station, the FamCamp is remarkably quiet. Reviewers repeatedly highlight it as "one of the quietest military campgrounds we've been to" and "Surprisingly quiet," making it ideal for relaxation.
- Year-Round Availability: A major advantage is that the FamCamp is "Open all year," unlike many other local campgrounds that close by Halloween or sooner. This provides flexibility for travel plans.
- Clean and Well-Maintained Facilities: The "Very clean Fieldhouse (Bathroom and showers)" and reports of "very clean" sites and "well manicured" grounds underscore the commitment to cleanliness and upkeep. Recent upgrades to concrete patios and FHU sites further enhance the experience.
- Large, Level, and Paved Sites: Many sites are described as "level, paved and large," with "new cement patios," making setup easy for various rig sizes, including those up to 45 feet.
- Friendly Security and Management: Gate security forces are consistently described as "courteous," and the manager, Jason, is noted as "great to work with, and very easy to work with," contributing to a positive overall experience.
- Excellent Walking/Running Trail: The presence of a "Great walking/running trail" and "plenty of sidewalks" around the base provides ample opportunities for exercise and enjoying the outdoors within a secure environment.
- Wildlife Sightings: Spotting a "Ground Hog sleeping under a tree" adds a charming, natural element to the stay, enhancing the peaceful atmosphere.
- Proximity to Base Amenities (Limited): While the base is small, there's access to a "nicely equipped gym" and a "small BX (Base Exchange)," offering some convenient on-base resources.
- Views of C-130s: For aviation enthusiasts, the presence of C-130 aircraft and occasional flights offers a unique and interesting backdrop to the stay.
At the time of review, specific, publicly advertised promotions beyond the already exceptional value are not widely detailed for Youngstown ARS FamCamp. However, the inherent affordability, with rates as low as "$15 per night for FHU asphalt paved site" and a stated monthly rate of "$480" for full hookups, serves as a continuous promotion in itself. Given its military affiliation, the best "promotion" is the access it provides to a high-quality RV experience at a fraction of the cost of commercial parks. It is always a good practice for eligible individuals to inquire directly about current rates, any long-term stay discounts (the stay limit is 6 months, with commander approval for longer), or seasonal specials when making reservations. Early reservations are recommended, especially for longer stays, as the manager "only allow so many monthly stay campers."

Youngstown ARS FamCamp Reviews
We love staying at this Famcamp. You can't beat the price. We're based out of Youngstown, so it's quite convenient and one of the quietest military campgrounds we've been to. Open all year, and everything else closes by Halloween or sooner. Gate security force are always courteous.
Oct 18, 2024 · Clean Slate Dirty TiresSmall but mighty. We enjoyed our stay at Youngstown ARS FamCamp! Very clean Fieldhouse (Bathroom and showers) Found a Ground Hog sleeping under a tree. Great walking/running trail. Surprisingly quiet.
Aug 23, 2021 · Jeffrey ZirbelThe campground is on the Youngstown ARS Reserve base in Ohio. It is not open to the public, only qualified military. There are 16 total full hookup sites, 5 pull-throughs, and 11 back-ins.The entrance is tight (we have a 43-foot 5th wheel). Security Forces can pull up the lane posts if needed. The Rec office (they run the FamCamp) is closed on the weekends. We arrived on Sunday and just went to our site (it tells you on your email receipt). We just went back on Monday to check in with Jason. The rec office is inside the base gym. Jason is GREAT! We plan on returning and signing out a couple of bicycles to ride around. They have many other items you can rent or check out for use.The campground is nothing to write home about, but for $15.00 a day, what can you ask for. They offer weekly and monthly discounts. The pull-through sites are narrow and have crushed asphalt for the patio area. The guy mowing runs right over the loose asphalt rocks and doesn't mind if it might be shooting rocks toward any of the RVs. He was very friendly, though. We did hear that repaving all the sites might be in the works. Not all sites are big rig-friendly.The campground has a 1/4 mile running track around it, and it is great to walk/run on (made of spongy material). The restrooms/showers are in the Fieldhouse. While it is kept clean, the showers could have been better designed. The water soaks the floor beyond the shower pan area. I learned not to keep towels or clothes there (they got wet). There is no place to keep your stuff off the floor and near your shower (unless it's the handicap stall). Shower curtains that went to the floor would fix this.Laundry: All the paperwork says we could use on-base laundry facilities in the lodging buildings (111 & 112). We went there, and all the signs posted said we could not use them. We called Jason (rec office), who told us they no longer allowed the campground customers to use any on-base laundry facilities. The closest laundromat was Vienna (289 Youngstown Kingsville Rd, Vienna Center, OH 44473). The great thing about this laundromat is that it is right across the street from AmVets Post 290. We walked over to the AmVets, and they were SUPER friendly. Even if you are not a paying AmVets member, they will welcome you with open arms. Please visit the AmVets and support them (struggling to stay open). Their address is AmVets Post 290 - 290 Youngstown Kingsville Rd, Vienna, OH 44473The base has a very small BX / Shoppette. It has a decent selection of beer, wine, and liquor but not much else. There is an excellent Gaint Eagle grocery store (12 min from FamCamp) a few miles down from the AmVets (4700 Belmont Ave, Youngstown, OH 44505).Be aware that there will be random detonations (loud booms that will rock your RV) and aircraft noise at all hours. If you have any issues with detonations (PTSD), be prepared. We almost jumped out of our skins on the one that rocked the 5th wheel.Overall, I would stay here again. For the price and the AmVets post so close, you can't beat it.
Jun 11, 2024 · Ellie MillNice and quiet, must be active duty, DOD or retired military to gain access.
Jun 09, 2025 · DonIt is very clean and very cheap rates, the track right behind the camp is nice. There is not a whole lot to do on base but I would swing back through for a night.
