The world of RV parks in Texas is vast and diverse, catering to a wide range of needs, from luxury resorts to simple, functional stopovers. Windmill RV Park appears to fit the latter, offering straightforward accommodation for travelers. We'll delve into the specifics that define Windmill RV Park, drawing information from publicly available data and customer feedback. While some feedback suggests areas for improvement, it's important to provide a balanced perspective for prospective guests. Our goal is to offer a clear and informative overview that helps Texans make an informed decision for their travel plans, focusing on what this park offers and for whom it might be the most suitable choice.
We understand that selecting an RV park involves considering various factors, including the type of stay (overnight vs. long-term), desired amenities, and overall atmosphere. Windmill RV Park seems to particularly serve the needs of those seeking a convenient overnight or short-term stop. We'll explore the details concerning its location, its basic provisions, and some key aspects that current guests have highlighted, ensuring you have a comprehensive understanding of what to expect from Windmill RV Park in Merkel, Texas.
Windmill RV Park is strategically located at 2398 Farm to Market Rd 1235, Merkel, TX 79536, USA. Its most significant advantage in terms of accessibility is its direct proximity to Interstate 20 (I-20), a major east-west artery traversing Texas. The park is just off I-20 at Exit 270, making it exceptionally easy to find for travelers. This location is ideal for those on a road trip across Texas, as it minimizes detours and provides a quick and convenient stop for the night or a few days. The "easy access to attractions in Merkel" is also a benefit, allowing guests to explore the local area if they choose.
Merkel itself is a small town in Taylor County, offering a quiet, rural setting that can be a welcome change from bustling city environments. While Merkel provides basic necessities, its close proximity to Abilene is a major draw. Abilene, a larger city just about 10-20 minutes away, provides a full range of services including extensive shopping centers, a wide variety of dining options, healthcare facilities, and numerous entertainment venues and cultural attractions. This means guests at Windmill RV Park can enjoy the peacefulness of a smaller community while still having quick and easy access to all the amenities a larger city offers.
The location also boasts "longest pad sites in Texas," which can be a significant advantage for those with large RVs or multiple slide-outs, ensuring ample space and ease of parking. Being right off a major interstate, guests might anticipate highway noise; however, at least one review indicates it was "very quiet here for the night I spent (windows open at night, didn't hear the highway noise)," suggesting the park may offer a more peaceful experience than its proximity to the interstate might imply. This blend of easy highway access, ample site size, and relative quiet makes Windmill RV Park a practical and convenient stop for RVers traveling through West Central Texas.

In conclusion, Windmill RV Park in Merkel, Texas, presents itself as a practical and accessible option for locals traveling across the state, particularly those seeking an overnight or short-term stop. Its undeniable convenience, stemming from its direct access to I-20 and close proximity to Abilene, positions it as a strategic choice for RVers. While feedback from long-term guests indicates significant challenges with management and park maintenance, for the transient traveler, the park offers fundamental amenities and a convenient location that aligns well with the needs of a brief stay.
For Texans on the road, the primary appeal of Windmill RV Park lies in its "easy to find" location right off the interstate, minimizing travel stress and maximizing time spent enjoying their journey. The availability of "longest pad sites in Texas" is a crucial advantage, especially for those with large rigs, ensuring a comfortable and accommodating parking experience. The reported quiet atmosphere, despite its highway adjacency, further enhances its suitability for an overnight rest, allowing travelers to recharge before continuing their journey across the vast expanses of Texas.
However, it is imperative for prospective guests, especially those considering extended stays, to weigh the expressed concerns regarding long-term management issues, including harassment, property destruction, and inconsistent adherence to park rules by management, as well as recurring maintenance issues with facilities like the laundry room. These serious allegations suggest that while the park's physical attributes like full hookups and large sites are present, the ongoing operational quality for long-term residents may be a significant deterrent. The phrase "Buyer beware" for long-term guests from one review highlights this disparity in experience.
Therefore, for Texans planning a quick stop, an overnight stay, or a visit lasting just a few days, Windmill RV Park offers a convenient and accessible location with basic services and welcoming features like allowing older RVs. Its straightforward check-in/out process via text messages adds to its efficiency for short visits. However, for those seeking a long-term home base or a consistent, high-quality experience over an extended period, considering the detailed feedback from long-term residents is crucial. Ultimately, Windmill RV Park serves as a practical short-term solution for travelers traversing Texas, providing the essential infrastructure for a temporary respite on the open road.

Windmill RV Park Reviews
I would leave 0 stars if I could. Management is horrible. Constantly harassing people, rude, Destroying property and denying it, managment doesnt follow park rules i.e. speeding through the park, not picking up their dog feces, leaving pets outside unattened. Lawncare is awful. Laundry room always closed for maintenance... 23 days at a time. The park may be ideal for an overnight stay or a few days, but as long term guest, please reconsider staying at Windmill. Buyer beware.
Jun 24, 2025 · PeepsIt was very quiet here for the night I spent (windows open at night, didn't hear the highway noise). Not sure if the office is occupied but they do communicate via text msg to ensure you're arrival/check-out. Mostly I'm glad they allow older RV's to stay for a night (possibly more).
Jun 02, 2025 · Andy NThis is a nice little RV park, but it would be better off if it didn't have the current management. The current management is more worried about going to shows. And not, taking care of the park, it took management almost a month to mow the park and the reason they started to, is because othet Tenants were mowing their own grass. Then they started threatening fines against Tenants, who are mowing their own grass because our management is too lazy to take care of the park. They were also threatening tenants with fines on other offenses.Like pallet decks, because our lots are uneven and dog poop.would damage the mower If you go into town and ask about our management, they are not well received the laundry room and office rarely open and the management is starting to let more and more pit Bulls in here.So be careful if you plan to stay.
May 18, 2025 · QIt’s a nice quiet place. The laundry room is very clean, the showers and bathrooms are very clean, they have 3 dumpsters. They also provide WiFi, lights, water, sewer. Dog friendly kid friendly. We are here with the union ( IBEW) to do a Facebook data center for AI and this campground is 17 minutes from that work site.
Mar 19, 2025 · FunTimesI would strongly recommend that you don't try to reserve with Windmill RV Park as reservations are not honored. We reserved for about 3 months in advance and then a few days later got an unsolicited email saying that our reservation had been canceled and would be refunded with no explanation. When I called them they said someone had decided to extend their stay and their attitude was that they couldn't care less?
