Tonkawa Falls RV Park Introduce
For many RV enthusiasts and those seeking a long-term, tranquil escape in the heart of Central Texas, finding the right RV park is paramount. Tonkawa Falls RV Park, nestled in the scenic town of Crawford, Texas, presents a unique proposition: a rustic and natural setting combined with a strong sense of community, appealing especially to those who prefer a laid-back lifestyle amidst nature. Unlike many highly developed resorts, Tonkawa Falls offers a more authentic camping experience, deeply connected to its natural surroundings, including the famous Tonkawa Falls swimming hole. This article will provide an in-depth look at Tonkawa Falls RV Park, covering its location, services, distinct features, and why it might be the ideal spot for Texas locals looking for a serene and community-driven RV living experience.
Tonkawa Falls RV Park is conveniently located at 8540 5th St, Crawford, TX 76638, USA. This address places it squarely within the charming small town of Crawford, known for its peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty. The park's prime location offers direct access to the Tonkawa Falls swimming hole, a highly popular local attraction, making it an ideal spot for those who enjoy outdoor activities and natural swimming. While Crawford itself is a smaller community, its proximity to larger cities like Waco (approximately a 20-30 minute drive) provides residents with easy access to a broader range of amenities, including major retail stores, diverse dining options, healthcare facilities, and cultural attractions such as Magnolia Market at the Silos, Cameron Park Zoo, and the Dr. Pepper Museum. This balance of rural tranquility and urban accessibility is a key advantage for residents of Tonkawa Falls RV Park, allowing them to enjoy the quiet of nature while remaining connected to necessary services and entertainment. The main roads leading into Crawford are well-maintained, ensuring relatively smooth travel for RVs of all sizes.
Tonkawa Falls RV Park provides essential services designed to accommodate both short-term visitors and long-term residents. Based on resident feedback and typical RV park offerings, these services include:
- Full Hookups: The park offers full hookup sites, which typically include electric, water, and sewer connections for RVs. This is a fundamental service for comfortable RV living.
- Laundry Facilities: On-site laundry facilities are available for residents, with cleanliness often maintained by the residents themselves.
- Shower Facilities/Bath House: A communal bath house with showers is provided, which, similar to the laundry, relies on residents for its upkeep.
- Trash Management: While the review mentions residents keeping their lots tidy, it also notes issues with trash left by non-residents near the water, implying a general waste disposal system for park residents.
- Regular Grounds Maintenance: City workers and police officers are noted to pass through daily, contributing to the upkeep of the park, including mowing. This suggests a consistent effort in maintaining the common areas.
- On-Site Management/Presence: The daily presence of city workers and police officers indicates a level of oversight and attention to the park's environment, contributing to perceived safety and order.
It is important for prospective residents to inquire about specific rules regarding utility payments (e.g., whether electricity is included or metered separately for long-term stays).
Tonkawa Falls RV Park offers several features and highlights that make it a distinctive choice for RVers in Texas, though some aspects also warrant consideration for improvement.
- Natural and Rustic Beauty: The park is described as "rusticly beautiful" and "still in its natural state," offering a genuine connection to the Texas landscape. This is a major draw for those who appreciate unspoiled nature and a less commercialized RV experience.
- Proximity to Tonkawa Falls: Direct access to the Tonkawa Falls swimming hole is a significant highlight, providing a natural recreational area for swimming and relaxation, particularly appealing during Texas's warm months.
- Strong Sense of Community: Residents consistently highlight the friendly and helpful nature of the full-time campers, who "help each other with whatever you need" and "get along well." This strong, supportive community is a key feature for long-term residents.
- Suitable for Long-Term Stays: Many residents express their intent to stay for a "long time," indicating that the park caters well to full-time or extended RV living, offering a stable and welcoming environment.
- Security and Oversight: The daily presence of "police officers and city workers" contributes to a sense of security and demonstrates a level of official oversight, which can be reassuring for residents.
- Resident-Maintained Cleanliness: The emphasis on residents keeping their laundry and showers clean, and the success of this effort, suggests a shared responsibility and pride in the community's facilities.
However, it's also important to address areas where improvement has been suggested by residents:
- Unmarked and Unpaved Lots: A common concern is that the lots are "not clearly marked nor paved," which can create challenges for parking and navigating, especially for larger rigs or during wet weather.
- Hookups in Disrepair: Residents note that "the hookups are in disrepair and need to be refurbished," which can lead to functional issues and inconvenience for campers.
- Strict RV Rules (for some): While some residents accept the rules, they are perceived by some as "a bit strict," suggesting that potential residents should thoroughly review park policies before committing.
- External Visitor Impact: A significant issue is the trash left by "outsiders that come to swim on weekends" near the water, indicating a challenge in managing public access to the natural attraction while maintaining park cleanliness for residents.

Tonkawa Falls RV Park Reviews
I moved my RV here from Lake Waco and I love it. I have been living here about 2 months and i love it during the week when its not over crowded and before school was out it was better. I think that most of the people in the RVs i have met are like me they plan to stay for a long time. They are very friendly and help each other with whatever you need. The police officiers and city workers come through daily and keep it well mowed . Its up to residents to keep our laundry and showers cleaned and most all of us do. I thought some RV rules were a bit strict but its fine cause we all get along well here and if the outsiders that come to swim on weekends cared like we do it would never have trash left out by the water. I plan to stay a long time like most others here.
Jun 19, 2024 · Vernette PackThe lots are not clearly marked nor paved. The hookups are in disrepair and need to be refurbished. The park is rusticly beautiful as it is still in its natural state. There are many full-time campers residing here, and they keep their lots tidy. This is definitely a park that is good for one or two nights if passing through Crawford and needing a place to stay. Still a beautiful part of Texas. Please clearly mark the lots and get the hookups renovated.

Jul 25, 2019 · ashley staggalways a blast beautiful place to swim
Jun 08, 2025 · Bret BlanchardThis camp lacks attention to detail and cleanliness. The overall park was beautiful besides the fact of frequent bad storms and a terrible mosquito infestation. Thankfully, I was just a visitor of a family member and was only there a few hours.
