Greetings, fellow Arkansans! When it comes to exploring the breathtaking beauty of our state, especially the Ouachita Mountains region, having a clear understanding of your accommodation options is crucial. This article provides a candid and factual overview of Southern R.V. Park, located in Mena, Arkansas. Our aim is to give you, as local users, a realistic picture of what to expect, helping you determine if this park aligns with your specific RV travel needs and preferences.
Mena, Arkansas, is a gateway to the stunning Ouachita National Forest, offering incredible opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, scenic drives like the Talimena Scenic Byway, and ATV riding. Finding an RV park that serves as a convenient base for these adventures is often a top priority for our state's residents. In this guide, we will delve into Southern R.V. Park's location, the services it offers (or doesn't), and important considerations based on available public information, including direct customer feedback. By providing a transparent view, we hope to empower you to make the most informed decision for your next RV journey in Arkansas.
Southern R.V. Park is situated at 2510 AR-8, Mena, AR 71953, USA. This address places it directly on Arkansas Highway 8, a state highway that provides access to Mena and the surrounding natural areas. Mena itself is nestled in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains, making it a popular destination for those seeking outdoor adventures.
The park's location on AR-8 offers straightforward accessibility for RVs, as it's a primary road leading into and out of Mena. For Arkansas residents traveling from various parts of the state, navigating to the park should be relatively easy. However, it's important for prospective visitors to note that being directly on a state highway can mean exposure to traffic noise. Additionally, public feedback indicates the park is located "next to a trash company," which may contribute to noise and potentially other environmental factors during operational hours, particularly in the mornings. While the location provides a direct route to Mena and its regional attractions, understanding these immediate environmental considerations is vital for setting accurate expectations for your stay.
- RV Spots: The park offers a limited number of RV spots, specifically noted as "7 spots total" by one reviewer. This suggests a small, potentially intimate setting.
- Basic Hookups (Presumed): While specific hookup details (water, electric, sewer) are not explicitly stated in the provided reviews, RV parks typically offer these basic services. However, the absence of mention implies a focus on fundamental provisions.
- Daily Rentals: Based on customer feedback, the park primarily offers daily rentals, as indicated by the reported phone interaction where weekly rentals were not accommodated. This suggests a business model focused on short-term stays.
- Limited Number of Sites: A notable feature of Southern R.V. Park is its small size, with only "7 spots total." This could appeal to those seeking a very small, less crowded environment compared to larger RV resorts.
- Proximity to Mena: The park's location on AR-8 provides direct access to the town of Mena, allowing guests to easily reach local shops, restaurants, and services.
- Accessibility to Ouachita National Forest Area: Being in Mena means the park is a gateway to the vast outdoor recreational opportunities within the Ouachita National Forest, including scenic drives, hiking trails, and ATV routes, though the park itself does not offer direct access to these amenities.

For Arkansans considering Southern R.V. Park in Mena for their next RV trip, it's essential to understand its specific characteristics and manage expectations accordingly. This park appears to be a very basic, no-frills option, primarily suitable for those who prioritize a simple, functional place to park their RV while exploring the surrounding Mena area and the Ouachita National Forest.
The most significant advantage for local users is the park’s convenient location directly on AR-8. This accessibility means minimal fuss in reaching Mena and quickly getting to the trailheads, scenic drives, or other outdoor activities that the region is famous for. For the self-sufficient RVer who primarily needs a spot with basic hookups and intends to spend most of their time exploring outside the park, its location serves its purpose. If your RV is fully equipped with its own shower, laundry, and robust internet access, then the absence of these amenities at the park might not be a significant deterrent.
However, it is crucial for Arkansas residents to be aware of the limitations highlighted by previous visitors, such as the lack of Wi-Fi, showers, and laundry facilities, as well as the proximity to a "trash company" which contributes to noise. The reported rudeness from office personnel is also a significant factor to consider for those who value good customer service. Therefore, Southern R.V. Park is best suited for resilient, independent Arkansas travelers seeking a very budget-conscious option for a short-term stay, who are prepared for minimal amenities and potential environmental noise. It can serve as a simple overnight or short-term base for accessing the natural beauty of the Ouachita Mountains, provided one approaches with clear, realistic expectations about the park's offerings and environment.

Just ok. Doable. No WI Fi, no showers. No laundry. 7 spots total. Next to a trash company. Noisy at 7 am with trash trucks
October 21 · Shannon MillerCalled to ask about the rv park for a weeks rental ,the woman on that answered was very rude ,she said they only rent by the day and hung up .I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone . Just dealing with the office personel was bad enough to deal with much less camping in front of a garbage place !!!!
