For Louisiana RV enthusiasts looking for a spot to park their rig while exploring the iconic city of New Orleans, Pelican RV Park New Orleans offers a distinctive option. Whether you're in town for work, extended stays, or simply passing through, understanding the various RV park choices available in our beloved state is key to a comfortable journey. Pelican RV Park aims to provide a practical solution for those seeking a place to stay with their RV in the New Orleans area, serving as a base for whatever brings you to the Crescent City.
Pelican RV Park New Orleans is located at 3716 Downman Rd, New Orleans, LA 70126, USA. Its position offers relatively quick access to major roadways, making it a feasible destination for RVers traveling from various parts of Louisiana or beyond. The park is situated in East New Orleans, an area that provides a different perspective of the city compared to the bustling French Quarter. While some online feedback suggests a more industrial or less conventionally scenic setting, its proximity to I-10 can be a significant advantage for those prioritizing ease of transit. It is approximately 5 miles from the vibrant French Quarter and downtown New Orleans, making it a viable option for those who wish to visit the city's main attractions. Public transportation is also available nearby, offering an alternative to driving into the city center.
Pelican RV Park New Orleans provides a set of services designed to accommodate the fundamental needs of RV travelers. These amenities focus on utility provision and basic on-site conveniences, which are crucial for a self-contained RV experience.
- Full Hookups: The park offers full hookups, which include connections for 30/50 amp electricity, water, and sewer at each site. This is a standard and essential service for RV parks, ensuring that guests have continuous access to utilities for a comfortable stay without needing to move their rig frequently.
- On-site Restaurant and Bar (Smiley's Grill): A notable feature of Pelican RV Park is Smiley's Grill, an on-site restaurant and bar serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This provides a convenient dining option for guests without having to leave the park. Having a direct access to meals and refreshments can significantly enhance the convenience of your stay.
- Space for Two Cars Per Site: Unlike some other RV parks, Pelican RV Park provides enough space at each site for two cars. This is a valuable feature for those traveling with an additional vehicle or for guests who may have visitors, ensuring ample parking directly at their site.
- Gated Property with Security Gate: The park is a gated community with a security gate. This measure is intended to provide an increased sense of safety and security for guests and their belongings, which is a common concern when staying in an urban environment.
- Pet-Friendly: Pelican RV Park welcomes pets, allowing you to bring your furry companions along on your New Orleans adventure.
Beyond the fundamental services, Pelican RV Park New Orleans offers a few features and highlights that might appeal to certain types of RVers, particularly those on extended stays or those looking for practicality over typical resort amenities.
- Proximity to New Orleans Lakefront: For those who enjoy outdoor activities, the New Orleans Lakefront is just down the street from the park. This offers opportunities for fishing and enjoying scenic views of Lake Pontchartrain, providing a natural escape within easy reach of the city.
- Oldest Campground in New Orleans: Pelican RV Park holds the distinction of being the oldest standing campground in New Orleans. This might appeal to those interested in the history of RV travel in the region.
- Long-Term Stay Potential: While not explicitly stated as a service, the fact that some guests have reported staying for "over a month" suggests that the park accommodates longer-term residents, making it a potential option for those working in the area or needing an extended base.
- Free Wi-Fi: The park offers free Wi-Fi, which is an important feature for many modern travelers who rely on internet access for communication, entertainment, or remote work.

Pelican RV Park New Orleans Reviews
Pretty much the same experience as everyone else. Lots of excitement listening to the burnouts and automatic gunfire. The caliber of women outside the daiquiri chef parking lot was.. different. Never really felt like my life was in danger though. Wouldn't bring my family here for a vacation but it suited us fine for what we were there for. Work. Others in the group were pretty scared though and deemed the accommodations as unsatisfactory; demanding that we leave. But we stayed over a month. The Folger's plant was pretty cool. After my stay I stopped drinking Folger's Coffee all together. Would make for a great story if you do end up staying in Eastghanistan.
Nov 13, 2024 · Ryan BleichWarning! Do not stay here! Very bad part of town. Loud street party going all night next door. Motorcycle burnouts til the am. Trash and metal debris everywhere. Only one shower and bathroom. No hand soap, toilet paper or paper towels. Shower disgusting. When asked mgr said he would replenish but 24 hrs later, nothing. Weed whacker going outside our window at 7am. Booked 3 nights and leaving after 1. Horrible day and night. Uber drivers very hesitant to pick up. We waited at corner for Uber and were threatened by party goers. Tried to address this with Greg/Craig and he hung up on us. There’s a homeless person living behind the bathroom and gets very upset if the bathroom is busy and she needs to use it. We’re surrounded by freeways and storage containers and enclosed by a gate. We do not feel safe at all! This is only some of the bad stuff. I could go on but this reviews long enough. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO STAY HERE EVEN ONE NIGHT!
May 09, 2022 · Margeaux StarrGreg is great, the park is close to everything we wanted to see in New Orleans and was a convenient central hub. The price is right and we have no complaints. Yeah it was a bit noisy at night but Greg told us long before we decided to stay that it might be and he put us away from it as much as he could. You have to eat at Smiley's Grill just outside the gate. Tasty food, nice staff.
Mar 13, 2018 · Simple Meets AdventureThis was our second stay here and enjoyed the convenient location. The staff was friendly and helpful. Each day the staff was busy working on their property keeping everything clean and functional. We really enjoyed having the Landing restaurant on site providing very good New Orleans dishes. We'll be back...
Jul 25, 2021 · Alex Barthe'Owner/grounds people very nice and helpful. Spaces are large and easy to park larger rigs in. However, it was VERY noisy! Extremely loud music plays next door non stop from noon till about 11pm. It’s very close to the highway as well.
